also ran was Cicada, filly voted champ as a 2yo, again as a 3yo and again the next year as best older filly/mare.
This virtual match race used to be a highlight during Travers week; hope it still is, because it is! :) Thanks for posting

Pretty good field with Jaipur & Ridan duking it out for a mile and a quarter! Smart & Cicada were pretty good horses too. Manny Ycaza was on Ridan while the Shoe was on Jaipur. The fractions were 23 & 1/5, 47 & 2/5, 1:11, 1:35 & 2/5 and 2:01 & 3/5 at the finish equaling the track record. One of the alltime classic races. Thanks for posting!!!

Cut my racing teeth on Fred Capossela's calls and it's great to hear him again here, in what is arguably the greatest ever duel-to-the-finish in horse racing! Thanks so much for posting!!

Not to take anything away from the race but it was great to hear Fred Capossela again!!

Hard to believe this race was 50 years ago. Yes, Fred Caposella was racing's best caller. Miss those days!

A race is supposed to be exciting, and the call is part of what makes it exciting. It's like watching an action movie at the theaters in monostereo sound. Not the same thing, no matter how great the visuals are.
Worst call I have heard is from when Easy Goer almost broke the world record for one mile, it was an awesome race but the call put you to sleep!

Hehe, no problem. I'm used to listening to exciting calls here in Puerto Rico (Norman H. Davila) and in the US I believe Trevor Denman is on a class all by himself.

Does it cut off at 43 seconds for anyone else?

Jaipur won the race, by the narrowest of margins.

Well, the call of the race wasn't very exciting, to tell you the truth. Too many long pauses within it, it wasn't fluid and he didn't inject any emotion into the fact that these two had been battling since the start.
Still, the race itself was great.
