    99-06 5.3l, if you hook up and cannot read check engine light, chances are your cigarette lighter fuse is blown, sounds weird but true and saved me. Hopefully this helps someone out like it did me🤙🏼

  • @Joesworldttv
    @Joesworldttv 3 года назад +3

    Step 1: What I would do is get a scan tool and pull diagnostic trouble codes to see what the onboard computer in your vehicle is saying, or in this case where the PCM - is indicating the fault. Step 2: Once figure out the location, for example, if it's Sensor 2 Bank 2, which this O2 sensor is downstream past the catalytic converter on the driver side, check the wiring harness for any burns or exposed wiring insulation. Step 3: Take the known location of the faulty sensor, and switch it with the opposite side of the rear. Pull codes for a second time, if Sensor 1 Bank 1 appears and Sensor 2 Bank 2 disappears on your scan tool, then you know it's the sensor, and not an issue with wiring of the PCM computer module. These steps should provide a more accurate diagnosis, rather than throwing away money on unnecessary parts. Unplugging the battery does not always work.

    Hey, THANKS for the video. Question; did you replace ALL FOUR of the sensors ? Or just the one that was defective (if you could tell which one) ? How reliable is the "problem diagnosis tool" to identify WHICH of the sensors are bad ?

    • @sampenn21222

      Like anything else on vehicles replace in pairs. If it's actually the o2 sensor that's bad. On these silverados there's 4 sensors 2 up stream 2 down stream. What ever the code is for up or down replace both. This isn't a GM repair must it's just common practice. If one in the set is bad chances are the other isn't far behind. Also when it comes to the up stream o2 sensors they send fuel and air data to the ecm, so when you only swap one the other most likley is going to report slower and possibly cause another code or the same code just for the old sensor.

  • @harvestblades

    So to be clear Bank 1 is on the side of cylinder #1 which on these GM is the driver's side, but not on every vehicle or those with a transverse-mounted engine. I sure wish my bank 1, #2 was that easy to get to on my '05 Yukon XL as the plug is in a goofy spot behind fuel lines & other garbage. They do make a socket that allows you to remove the sensor w/out cutting the line. They are $5 on Amazon & can be a big help especially if you are pulling it for some other reason like inspecting or testing it. They should be installed with anti-seize on the threads and if not or just damn old & corroded you may benefit from putting some heat on it as they can often be very stubborn. Given how much of a PITA everything is to get off on my 05 I doubt a short wrench will be the only tool I get to use today.

  • @paulkeller7213

    I totally get were you are coming from about disconnecting the battery to change a tire, etc......however, the reason fort his is to eliminate the power supply in case it for some freak reason would start up buy itself. The correct way is to disconnect battery, try to start the car, put key in pocket. If car starts after disconnecting the battery, contact supervisor immediately! lol (paul) ps....I really appreciate the info about the banks and what side they are on.

  • @patrysUSA
    @patrysUSA 4 года назад +4

    Do your self and others that work on that truck after you a favour and put a little anti seize, never seize or copper slip on the threads. It will be a much bigger job about five years or so down the line when you replace that sensor again, and you strip those threads because they have galled.

    My mechanic said to disconnect the battery, replace the sensor, then take the battery cables and hold the terminal connections together for 20-30 seconds. He said this resets the computer so it goes back to pre failure settings so you will not burn out the new sensor right out of the gate.
