Canning Strawberry Pancake Syrup

  • Here's how I canned strawberry pancake syrup. The USDA recipe is far better than the Ball Book one. It only uses strawberry juice and sugar whereas the Ball recipe adds water to the juice and uses sugar and corn syrup, resulting in a more watery, less tasty syrup.

    I pureed 9 cups of strawberries in my ninja, and only added 6 cups of sugar. My kids prefer it with less sugar, it's very sweet and you can really taste the strawberries.

    Great great video and eveeytime you said, "I hope that makes sense" you totally did and as someone who has been canning for years you actually explained it in a way that I wish someone would have explained it to me years ago.

    Made strawberry rhubarb jam the other day then found a recipe for strawberry syrup in my home canning book. Thankfully I stumbled onto your video b4 I proceeded w/that recipe which added water. SO SO glad I found your video and linked recipe!! I doubled recipe then bottled in continuous thread 10 oz bottles per your direction. I don't have a food mill like yours so I simmered my fruit then strained thru a muslin lined colander. Thanks for sharing your video as I've never canned using anything other than standard jars, lids and rings. Follow the directions and your tutorial for easy peasy, perfect results!! This is a wonderfully tasty, perfect mouth feel syrup - just yummy!!

    I just wanted to say that this was a very well made video. Every time I was thinking of a question you provided the answer! The timing of the video was very good, no dead space or repetition. I really liked the recipe/instructions but I especially like how the video was put together. Thanks for taking the time to do it!

    Thank you so much! I like seeing how people can items and what types of jars they use. The Container Store has canning jars from France and Germany. The German ones have a "juice" jar as well and this gives me a reason to use them. Thanks!

    This stuff is sooo good that I've been making blueberry waffles and we have been eating this up. It will be fantastic on ice cream too. It looks like I'll be making a couple more batches of it while we still have good strawberries. The good part is it is so easy to make and it does not take all day. My daughter said she would rather me make this than jam!

    You make everything look so simple. If I tried this I'd have broken bottles all over the place. Our strawberries are doing pretty good, theres just not a lot of plants. My wife loves the strawberry syrup on waffles. I'll see how many berries we can round up, and if necessary, buy enough to make a run. As always....it helps. :-)

    Could you add a tiny smidge of butter to the mixture, to reduce foaming-much like when we make jam? Also, I'm going to be making this with blackberries(and then strawberries later), but I'm trying to figure out how many berries I'll need to get 8cups of juice. I assume the ratio of fruit juice to sugar is 1c juice to 1.5c sugar? Have to say that I look forward to your videos over all my other subscriptions. You have the neatest ideas! lol

    Thank you so much for sharing this. I have been wondering about these jars for some time now. I looked at the jars on the website and want to know if the lids came with them or do you order them separately? Down here in Georgia, these same bottles are used for the real homemade cane syrup. Also, the Mennonites use them for honey and salad dressing. Thanks a million for doing the video!

I have 48 pints of berries so syrup is a definite too

      that's what I was wondering to. I raised sugar beets in my garden, shredded them, cooked them down to, well I gave up trying to get sugar. Thought I'd try for syrup. So now I need to know IF I can process it into small jars for long term storage? Just plane ol sugar beet juice. Do you know what to do?

      Susann Minall She gets them at FillmoreContainer.com. There's a link in the box above. A dozen of the bottles are $5.82 and the lids are .10 each. It's a good deal if you live on the east coast. Not so much if you live out west. A dozen bottles and lids to me are less than $7.00 but shipping is $18.00 bringing cost to over $2.00 per bottle.

    • @imstillworkin
      @imstillworkin  3 года назад +1

      Hot product will seal jars/bottles but it won't kill germs present on jars/bottles. Only a boiling product would do that and once something comes out of the pot, it's no longer boiling. I love that company but they aren't canning experts. I never had a problem water bathing those bottles.
