- A fun little Tom and Jerry cartoon about imagination and getting socked by your own creations, something we're pretty familiar with here at Thunderbean. It's on the new Blu-ray and we've been trying to finish forever but now it's actually nearly done. Thanks all and enjoy the cartoon.
I wish there were a magical device that allowed us to see the production process of any piece of media just by scanning it.
Nothing is more satisfying than seeing a remastered cartoon when you’ve been so used to it being bootlegged.
1:32-2:02 - Frank Tashlin!
Reminds me of the DoodleBob episode of SpongeBob
T&J are the COOLEST
Official Films reissues had the name changed to Dick & Larry to avoid confusion with MGM’s Tom & Jerry.
First Release - December 9, 1932
The girl's voice is cute :B
which turns out to be Margie Hines :o
Wow, this just gave me a good feeling. Those early 30s cartoons when they were really getting the hang of it and adding some real style. (Obviously I know that was thanks to some great stuff in the 20s, but I’m just appreciating the progress made in a few short years since commercial animation began.
Also great restoration job! I’d love to see the “before” version. And you’ve indicated there’s a little more to do? On this one, or on the collection as a whole? Cause this one looks pretty good. I mean one could always nitpick, but at the same time you don’t want to completely change the film into something cleaner than it ever was meant to be. I haven’t seen a lot of the recent Thunderbean releases (had some an old DVD I think, about to buy some Blu-rays though), so I’m not really familiar with the philosophy behind these restorations. I assume it’s a pretty good common sense approach, like leaving in the natural grain, unless it’s terribly grainy, then maybe just ever so slightly scrubbing (although even that… idk, I’d rather see rough prints than DNR)
Anyway, kinda rambly there, not sure I made much of a point or asked a real question, but, I like what I’m seeing, definitely cool that these films are being preserved. Tempted to ask about 4K releases but… I understand we are more than lucky to be getting 1080p releases, and many more people only have standard Blu-ray players than people with 4K players, so Thunderbean needs be able to sell discs that their customers can use. (I guess as long as the work is being done at 4K… eventually that can be released someday…)
Anyway, cheers! Happy new year!
