  • Assisted by ticket-taker Bimbo the Dog and product-demonstrator Koko the Clown, Betty Boop stages a "Big Invention Show". Highlights of the program include a pig-powered pipe organ, a Rube Goldberg-style spot remover, a cigarette snuffer, a soup silencer, a sweet-corn regulator, and an egg-frying device, replete with optional hen and rooster. Betty herself demonstrates a most unusual voice recorder with a performance of "Keep a Little Song Handy". The show's number-one attraction, a very powerful self-threading sewing machine, knits up the proceedings quite nicely. ~ Hal Erickson, Rovi A message from "CCTheMovieman" rated it 5 stars. "This was my first look in over 40 years at a Betty Boop cartoon.....and I was impressed. It was pretty funny and very "inventive", pun intended. This really wasn't her style, either, as I have since discovered (singing and dancing was her forte.)" -

    I stopped watching cartoons when I was like 13 but these are so cute and creative, I love them. Watching these feels like I'm living in a different age enjoying my favorite cartoon about light-hearted day to day things.

    1:07, Can we all take a moment to recognize that Betty Boop is a professional pig organ player!?

    • @101Volts
      @101Volts Год назад

      It looks a bit more preferable than that slave torture organ in the Baron Munchausen movie (a Terry Gilliam movie) from the late 80s.
      ... I'm speaking of the idea of it as an actual musical instrument, that is. I loved watching the movie as a kid, but I tended to skip that part.

    Hannah and Barbera took it to a new level, but all the animal-labor, modern conveniences of the Flintstones were not their original idea. Betty Boop had the like in all her cartoons 25 years prior.

    • @CheetahFoxx
      @CheetahFoxx 2 года назад +1

      Their new level was a new low compared to this work. The drawings were utterly simple, the animation was almost as bad as Gigantor, the jokes were bland as water-soup, and half the cartoons were just carbon copies of other cartoons. If people would just stop associating those shows with their childhood, they would realize just how terrible they were.

    • @101Volts

      @@CheetahFoxx The Flintstones and Scooby Doo don't seem quite as bad as Clutch Cargo is for animation, though. I don't know how I would have taken Clutch Cargo if I watched it as a 4 year old, but seeing it now is just a bit like "what."

    All these inventions...and Grampy is NOT There (or did they not come up with the character yet?)

    • @KatNips
      @KatNips 3 года назад +2

      Probably not. Betty had a lot of "eras" that can be told apart from her proportions, clothes and supporting cast. Bigger head, smaller body and black dress, her pretty much experimental phase, when Bimbo and Koko were just as popular if not more then her. Later on, the black dress was not used as often, instead swapped for whichever era appropriate morning or evening wear was popular at the time, in some special occasions paired up with a hat. Her supporting cast was much more human (with grampy and other nameless side characters who lived in the same town as Betty.
      In this cartoon there's lots of anthro characters (like the Hippo) wich would be rare for newer Betty, post Grampy Betty.

    • @CheetahFoxx
      @CheetahFoxx 2 года назад +2

      This was a perfect example of the Flieschers' musical brilliance.
      It's an old, fiddle tune called "chicken reel" first published in 1910. You'll without a doubt recognize the tune when you hear it. But the Flieschers, being big city New Yorkers adapted it into a *jazz* number. One thing you will hear with all the old Fliescher cartoon is their magnificent jazz scores. They were on the cutting edge of popular music at the time.
