Yeah, this model totally rocks! You can be a small band (guitar, bass, vocals) anywhere w/this! in terms of size and sound, and sturdiness, this tiny PA's wonderful gift of portability w/o sacrficing sound quality or volume-and this includes good bottom for bass-is great, no, epochal for enabling me to take my live playing around to informal music places and situations w/o being confined to just acoustic. In other words, helping my music be heard in spontaneous jam or busk, without, hallelujah!, having to be 5 ft. from whoever's listening.
Useful review, thanks. The sticky surround is because of the doping used on the cloth surround. This is a cost effective method used by some speaker manufacturers to improve the frequency response, and can be quite effective at reducing certain unwanted resonances, if it's done properly. It sounds like the wrong doping has been used, or maybe it hasn't been cured correctly, if it's still sticky by the time it's reached the customer. One key piece of information is missing from Behringer's technical data: peak output sensitivity. Anybody know the answer to this?

anchor been making these thing for a long time , military grade 120 to 240 watts , they're not that loud but compared to this they monsters and you won't find more accurate sound reproduction from manufacturer out there , by comparison this is more than just a step down from 30 year old tech , and i love behringer for the money you cant beat their boards , but ive never know of them make a speaker that will hold up to stresses of professional use(road houses and bar band use)
Nice review. Bought 2 mpa40s. It's great and easy setup. Loud and clear for indoor and outdoor use. Wish it had a thru out and improve BT reception anywhere. Tone controls are basic, good enough. I'm going to do small gigs with these speakers.

I was curious, since you bought it as an open box, any chance someone swapped out the good woofer for the one in your video? Kinda shocked to see a paper woofer with a sticky non-foam surround in a Behringer.
jimbodunky It's possible the woofer was swapped, but rather unlikely. I bought it from a reputable online store, and its previous owner (based on the asset sticker that was left on it) was a school district. The quality of the components in it don't really surprise me, it's pretty clear this unit was built down to a price.
Great helpful video! I was researching battery powered speakers and this was the only thing that came up. Being a DJ, I was hoping this single speaker could connect to another and its unfortunate that it doesn't. Have you had a chance to test it out for a bbq or house party by any chance? I'd love to know how well the sound turned out in an environment of about 25 to 50 people. I also just heard about ion audio's new 2015 line of speakers, might check those out as well. Thanks again!
This sounds overall better than BOSE S1 Pro, I am bedazled. The BOSE farts at stronger sound(and also at not so strong) and I am sad to say this. But it is 4.5 times more expensive and this makes bose the big loser. I am glad with the Behringer, tested with some demanding techno tracks. This track (ruclips.net/video/u75a7TNP648/видео.html) makes all speakers distort, but with MPA40BT, it was not this dramatic as with BOSE, which failed big time at this track. I am a longtime fan of BOSE but the bass response openings are to my opinion miscalculated on the S1 and the resonance hits the grille and makes the things awful. Behringer is here more cunning by placing the response orifices much closer to the end of the grille and probably by making them elliptical resolves the fartings. The limiter is strongly pronounced in the MPA40BT. Once a demanding bassy track is played it ducks the sound level, then when I lower the level from the source, the ducking is not needed so the limiter shuts off and this increases the volume. The sound is pleasant, not the best i've heard but it will work for small open air techno parties. The bass becomes much stronger if there is some wall behind the MPA40BT. I am not in love, but satisfied. I tested in the field near the industrial zone. Some guys looked shocked to me crossing the street while playing deep techno alone in the dark. I shook the windows of the building against the speaker some 40-50 meters away. I saw some lights to be turned on and off probably the night guard was shocked what happens.

I was very excited to get a couple of these to run in stereo, but when you pointed out this doesnt have a line out, this becomes a hard NO for me. 40 watts is way too wimpy, but I would have been ok running two of them. It really is a brain fart on the designers here. Swing and a miss.
Consider using “Splitter” adapters to route your output signals to left and right cabinets. Or consider just splitting the mic. signal (in mono) to both speakers and, say, your keyboard to the left and right speakers in true stereo. That would sound sweet. My request would be for a small, functional reverb .
Great review. There are some excellent battery powered amps around by Roland (BA and KC series), Samson (Expedition series) and AER Compact Mobile (very expensive acoustic guitar amp that can double as a mini PA). The obvious direct competition to this speaker would be Samson's XP40 or XP106. Would love to hear how you think these compare. You might also be interested in The Box Pro model PAM 404 ACHAT, which is the house brand of Thomann in Germany. It's the only battery powered amp I've seen so far with (18V 6Ah) lithium battery pack.

Really informative and I watched this prior to buying this.Fast forward 4 weeks later, we purchased 1 (Pro version) along with a Behringer Dual wireless microphone and a speaker stand. My coworkers love this and so easy to setup. We've used it 4 times already.One thing that came up is we might use this on our Holiday party inside a ballroom with up to 50 - 100 people. Do you think this speaker is enough? You mentioned on your review that it might not be possible to have two of these sync together.Any suggestions?
+Christian Lalisan I've used mine to cover a crowd of about 100 people a few times for simple speech reinforcement, and it's worked very well. Whether it will work for your party depends on how big the ballroom is and what you need to use the speaker for. If it's a smaller room and you just need background music or speech reinforcement, it'll probably do fine. If it's a large room and everyone is spread out, you may not get enough coverage. You can use more than one of these speakers at a time, but they both have to be connected via cables to a separate mixer, as you can't daisy-chain one speaker to another. Thanks for watching!

9 years ago, wow, seems like these companies have made so little progress from back then I’m looking for one man show PA that has BT and lets one select through a list of backing tracks (mp3?) under 300 for outdoor use with audience of 100. I wonder whether you could have two speakers operating simultaneously through blue tooth and whether that might have been Behringer;s intention? Do the speakers communicate with each other that way? Would be interested to find out - and any loss in quality sound?
The Bluetooth doesn't work that way, unfortunately -- the speakers only can act as receiving devices, not transmitting ones. You *may* be able to pair two speakers to the same source (computer or smartphone, for example) but this won't help if you want to use the mic or line inputs.
This Does Not Compute So it's correct as you say - it is a real limitation in this speaker. I have to say I am impressed with t he new Nano 300 and 600 Satellite system, nice crisp clean sound and good input options for solo duo or more even. I tested one this week at a store - price of the 600 is on the high side but portability is great.
About how long does the battery last on this at a full volume? I am debating on wether to buy this one of the Alesis Transactive. I own an old model Alesis. Which has lasted me for a few years now. I want to upgrade and go with bluetooth speaker now. So I want to choose between this one or the Alesis Transactive. So far the features that Behringer has (bass, treble, and rca jacks) kinda winning me over. The fact that Behringer is more compact is also a plus. Its coming down to battery life. Thanks so much for this video. It is more help than I've been able to get from the Bringer website. One question I have is, is it best to keep the unit plugged into an outlet all the time to keep the battery charged? Or is it better to use it until the battery runs down & then recharge it? I just bought mine yesterday and noticed the color of the lights are (from left to right) red, yellow, green, green. Seems like a new battery have all green lights, right?

I have just got this one . How do yoi know when its fully charged ? I know the led light go right to 100 % but when it does . I switch it off and later i put it on and it comes up as 75% ??? Any ideas guys please
Hi! I have two of these speakers. The battery died one one, and I need a replacement. The Behringer USA customer service number doesn't work, and they are not responding to emails even after a month. I need to know if this battery has F1 or F2 terminals so I can purchase on Amazon. Also, this is rated 5ah, but could I use a battery with more capacity, say 7ah? Please let me know about those terminals on the battery. Thanks!
+Howard Roark I'm not sure about the battery terminal size, but you shouldn't have any problems with a larger capacity battery provided it still fits inside the speaker.
+This Does Not Compute I found the battery on Amazon, and purchased two of them for $28 and a SLA charger to maintain the one that won't be in immediate use. Doesn't really matter if the terminals are f1 or f2 (the included Behringer battery has one of each) because the batteries come with adapters for either terminal size. If i run rca Left + Right out of my av Receiver, in to the Jack. Does that convert to left and right sound Sound would be better that way, than if i was to run it rca in to the Speaker
I have the Samson XP106. I got it because it claimed to have a 20 hour battery. After testing o got about 3 hour turned halfway up, I couldn't turn it up anymore or it would have major distortion! It also claimed a 100 watt class D amp...THATS HAS TO BE THE PEAK because there is no where near 100 watt. How is the battery on the Berhinger? Does it ever distort? If I get the Berhinger, which is a huge possibility because it's slot cheaper than the Samson, I will consider putting a Lithium battery in it with twice the capacity. What do you think???
OK, PAL. Let's put a straight question: Are You sure You can't use the WIRELESS mikes alongside the straight CHANNEL INPUTS??? Because in another review, the guy claims this is possible. He actually used it in such a way. Obviously, you would not be able to control the volumes sepperately. But that's OK, since there is a basic culture of keeping the MIKES at a distance, just enough to blend you into the MIX. Please answer, to get this straight, since it is a MAJOR ISSUE!
Hello, I'm planing on buying one of these but I have a question: Does the wireless system on the speaker work only with Behringer wireless microphones or can it be used with other wireless systems? Hi, about 2 months ago I bought an amplifier called MPA40BT-PRO, everything worked perfectly except for the battery. I left it charging 6 hours before using it, but I always have to plug it in to utilize it, as soon as I take out the power cord it goes off. Basically whenever I want to use the amplifier i have to always have it plugged in. So I returned the product and I requested an exchange for a new one ( another MPA40BT-PRO ). I went home, plugged it in to charge for 4-6 hours, the same problem. I don't know how to fix this, I already messaged the Behringer page on Facebook and followed the steps that they advised me to do but it was no use. Does anyone have any idea about this?.
Apilot hi maaan, so i opened the product and took out the battery !! The amplifier still deliver +14V to charge the battery. But the battery is DEAD !! because i used the amplifier until the battery was empty, and stored it for 5 months empty...so it is DEAD !! That's why you have to store the amplifier, the battery charged, and try every two month to use and charge it ! I bought a YUASA battery (about 46euros) and it is great quality....whereas the shipped ones are baaaaaaaaaad quality and cost about 5$ on the net !!! Better to buy a new battery of good quality. (i had an email from the support on their website, they said this : In regards to your EPA40BT Speaker, I'm told that the rechargeable battery in the EPA40BT (as well at the EPA40BT-PRO and the EPA40) acts just like the battery in your car. What I mean by that is if you store your car for prolonged periods without occasionally starting it to allow the battery to recharge then the battery will discharge so low that it cannot be recharged. In order to help maintain the battery life of these products, it's good practice to recharge the battery once a month during prolonged storage.)
Apilot me too But the battery is already dead and it's charge level is sooo low, that it could not be charged. open the battery tray and if you have a multimeter try to check the voltage that th amplifier delivers to the battery. If it is 13 or 14V , that means the battery is really dead and that you have to buy a good one
Not every use requires a lot of wattage. Smaller room or gathering and simple speaking need makes 40w sufficient. Obviously, this is not for you, but may be for me.
the product is faulty, i had the same issue with 2 different speakers of the same kind bro lmao. Everything works quite good after 5 years, but I have to have plugged in at all times. Absolute scam not gonna lie but whatever lol
No sound test, but I know reviews that says, the system has a low cut below 250 Hz, so an acoustic guitar may sound thin, but open air you doesn't disturb others easily.

Want to use it as foldback? Just put a stick in the handle groove and lean it back. Voila! Perfectly stable floor wedge.

Its unfortunate not to have a line out. You cant call it a "system" without that. The Pignose Hog 30 has that, but lacks mic-level input.

Hi! I have two of these speakers. The battery died one one, and I need a replacement. The Behringer USA customer service number doesn't work, and they are not responding to emails even after a month. I need to know if this battery has F1 or F2 terminals so I can purchase on Amazon. Also, this is rated 5ah, but could I use a battery with more capacity, say 7ah? Please let me know about those terminals on the battery. Thanks!
+Howard Roark I'm not sure about the battery terminal size, but you shouldn't have any problems with a larger capacity battery provided it still fits inside the speaker.
+This Does Not Compute I found the battery on Amazon, and purchased two of them for $28 and a SLA charger to maintain the one that won't be in immediate use. Doesn't really matter if the terminals are f1 or f2 (the included Behringer battery has one of each) because the batteries come with adapters for either terminal size. If i run rca Left + Right out of my av Receiver, in to the Jack. Does that convert to left and right sound
Sound would be better that way, than if i was to run it rca in to the Speaker
+James Martin Curwain The speaker is mono only, so if you feed it a stereo signal it will mix both channels together.

I have the Samson XP106. I got it because it claimed to have a 20 hour battery. After testing o got about 3 hour turned halfway up, I couldn't turn it up anymore or it would have major distortion! It also claimed a 100 watt class D amp...THATS HAS TO BE THE PEAK because there is no where near 100 watt. How is the battery on the Berhinger? Does it ever distort? If I get the Berhinger, which is a huge possibility because it's slot cheaper than the Samson, I will consider putting a Lithium battery in it with twice the capacity. What do you think???

OK, PAL. Let's put a straight question: Are You sure You can't use the WIRELESS mikes alongside the straight CHANNEL INPUTS??? Because in another review, the guy claims this is possible. He actually used it in such a way. Obviously, you would not be able to control the volumes sepperately. But that's OK, since there is a basic culture of keeping the MIKES at a distance, just enough to blend you into the MIX. Please answer, to get this straight, since it is a MAJOR ISSUE!

Does the wireless system on the speaker work only with Behringer wireless microphones or can it be used with other wireless systems? For example the Samson Stage XPD1 Headset that also uses the USB connection? Is it compatible?

It's only compatible with Behringer's USB wireless mics.
I read, that this Behringer wireless microphone is pretty limited, but better, than the included "toy" microphone.

Hi, about 2 months ago I bought an amplifier called MPA40BT-PRO, everything worked perfectly except for the battery. I left it charging 6 hours before using it, but I always have to plug it in to utilize it, as soon as I take out the power cord it goes off. Basically whenever I want to use the amplifier i have to always have it plugged in. So I returned the product and I requested an exchange for a new one ( another MPA40BT-PRO ). I went home, plugged it in to charge for 4-6 hours, the same problem. I don't know how to fix this, I already messaged the Behringer page on Facebook and followed the steps that they advised me to do but it was no use. Does anyone have any idea about this?.

hi maaan, so i opened the product and took out the battery !! The amplifier still deliver +14V to charge the battery. But the battery is DEAD !! because i used the amplifier until the battery was empty, and stored it for 5 months empty...so it is DEAD !!
That's why you have to store the amplifier, the battery charged, and try every two month to use and charge it !
I bought a YUASA battery (about 46euros) and it is great quality....whereas the shipped ones are baaaaaaaaaad quality and cost about 5$ on the net !!!
Better to buy a new battery of good quality.
(i had an email from the support on their website, they said this : In regards to your EPA40BT Speaker, I'm told that the rechargeable battery in the EPA40BT (as well at the EPA40BT-PRO and the EPA40) acts just like the battery in your car. What I mean by that is if you store your car for prolonged periods without occasionally starting it to allow the battery to recharge then the battery will discharge so low that it cannot be recharged. In order to help maintain the battery life of these products, it's good practice to recharge the battery once a month during prolonged storage.)

But the battery is already dead and it's charge level is sooo low, that it could not be charged.
open the battery tray and if you have a multimeter try to check the voltage that th amplifier delivers to the battery.
If it is 13 or 14V , that means the battery is really dead and that you have to buy a good one

Yep, you can use both mic/line inputs and the Bluetooth/RCA input simultaneously, with independent volume controls for each.

Not every use requires a lot of wattage. Smaller room or gathering and simple speaking need makes 40w sufficient. Obviously, this is not for you, but may be for me.

A bass guitar would plug into this. But it would sound, as would you use a small pocket amp.

No sound test, but I know reviews that says, the system has a low cut below 250 Hz, so an acoustic guitar may sound thin, but open air you doesn't disturb others easily.
