US Army guidance on painting individual weapons is pretty much right in line with yours. However, the Army specifically calls for Rust-Oleum flat colors. Rust-Oleum can be removed with a good soaking in CLP, and a little scrubbing. Uncle Sam wants his guns back in black when they get turned back in after the deployment.
Great tips; I've always stood by using brown, sand/khaki and green in ratios matching the local, outdoor environs. One item I'd add is that painting a suppressor is not advised since they heat up and burn off the paint leading to a strong smell. Using a sheath is probably the better option. Also, THE DRIP and your eye shadow is just (chef kiss), always.
Another technique that gives a 3D effect is a dark base(brown), 2-4" wide slanted stripes alternating in a lighter color(green), then lay the foliage on the dark areas and spray a 3rd lighter color like khaki/sand/tan. Only seen 2 YT channels do this technique and the end result is amazing. TLDR: Dark base, Lighter slanted stripes, foliage on dark areas sprayed with 3rd lighter shade.
Mother of pearl/sparkle flake/metalic/burnt chrome pink for me : ) Lil bit of gold hardware too. I like to pretend I'm a bond villain or Nick Cage from Face off lolz
Huh, thanks, this is a pretty different way of thinking about painting for me. I build props as a hobby, including some prop guns, and part of the deal with props is to enhance the outline. So things like inking the recesses, dry brushing highlights on the raised edges, adding visual weathering, etc. The goal with all that is to enhance the silhouette to increase it's physical presence and better sell the appearance of a weapon for something that's made of wood, foam, or resin. But that's of course totally counter-productive when trying to lower the visual profile of an actual weapon. So thanks, this gives me something to think about.
Another fantastic video as always!!! I have never really painted my rifles, I tended to keep them as factory standard as always BUT this video may have convinced me. I have an L1a1 SLR that I think would look good in some jungle or prairie colors. Also you look SO gorgeous with that choker!!!
Make some Puffy little Happy Clouds, comeing out of Puff the magic Dragon, with all camouflaged scales and if it pleases you maybe paint bolt/charging handle into Male or Female private parts. Hey its just thought happy trees and sleepy mountains could look epic. You have a nice Day..
Make sure your gun doesn't smell kids!! That's why I only use Dr. Barnaby's Skunk Oil Rifle Lubricant(TM) No, but seriously I love your channel. I just went back to one of your earlier videos, I can say your presentation/ speaking skills have gotten way better( you were always good, I just like the improvement)
First time I painted my rifle it looked like a GI Joe toy. Used Palmetto leaves.. looks cool but a bit silly. Then I couldn't stop adding paint. But it functions and works for my surrounds. Id rather have arctic patterns because i'm sick of the heat in the south.
Great video! Unfortunately for me, while I appreciate a good camo pattern, I’m also *SUPER* paranoid about fucking up 😂 Also, I love the silver accents on my black rifle too much to do a paint job 😅
I went with Montana spray paints, since they're hard wearing and their flats are actually flat. It's been about a year with moderate use and the finish is holding nicely. Also, this is not something that takes a great deal of artistic talent. So long as you know which end of the nozzle the paint comes out of and you're willing to do a few practice passes on a piece of cardboard to figure out your spray pattern, anyone can do it and make it work.
The gold line is preferd as black is high pressure for street bombing tags and throws the gold is a soft low pressure with alot of control for doing detailed peaces and burners but thay have awsome camo colors duck season and nato are my favs and its fast drying holds up and wears perfect over time nun of the guns i ever painted were done with shitty american paint i ise the graffiti brand paint as it truly is superior and lrylon and rusto are garbage and over over priced and 5 colors thats it thats all thay make and nun of them work out were i live but montana gold is the bees knees when it comes for camo
I've just gotten into the AR-world and I am debating whether or not I want to keep my rifle black or if I wanna make it camied. Decisions, decisions....

@@justanormaldude1 I see what you're talking about - yes, that's a picatinny section added: www.shaffermachining.com/product-page/streamlight-pressure-switch-m-lok-mount
I'm not crazy about it. It picks up a lot of dirt, which can aid the camo, but sometimes just flatten everything out, and weather, especially where I'm at, will absolutely make this a very temporary solution.
Smell? I use frog lube so my firearms are MINTY FRESH. I will stage all of my outdoor ambushes in a field of mint, and the enemy will never smell me coming.

It comes back shiny metal, most of the time.
@@Dan-di9jd it certainly does. Also, genuine battle wear doesn’t look anything like the “battle worn” paint jobs we see from time to time.
I found using a flat clear coat works well in keeping your paint on your gun.

Rattle-camo is also a great way to update some dodgy outdated camo (digicam molle pouches in my case)

Yeah that cracked me up.
As painter i find this video very good, few more to say.
Do bother to find "Ultra Flat" or "Camoflauge" paint. Regular "Flat" still has sheen that will reflect light and look shiny in the sun.
I always add a bit more of the dark paint to the middle of the rifle so as to break up the silhouette even more!

Am I seeing things or is this a WWSD build of sorts? Sure looks like a KP15 monolithic polymer lower but perhaps an Aero handguard. Nice! 👍😁👍

Curious on what the IR reflectance is of certain spray paints.
Found shooters lube cleaner and lube have no odor, chose it because I have birds in home and birds are sensitive to fumes/odors.
Thanks TG. Any plans on releasing a rifle shooting guide? I just started with guns and I loved your handgun guide
Yes, absolutely! That's coming in the near-ish future.

Hey welcome back bb
Nice WWSD, I've got the CDR.
pro tips: wear a bob ross wig while doing this and the rifle will be 148% cooler, 223% better camouflaged and around 1% better painted.
So your saying I shouldn't paint my gun LIKE rare CSGO SKIN?
I mean why not? Sure for fighting in the woods it might be contraproductive. But as long as you like it and have fun with it do what you want.
Disclaimer..No kittens were harmed during the filming of this video 😂

Great tutorial, plus you're draped up from head to toe, but ready to get dirty if it's gots to go
You can sand gun with paper 600, then paint will stick more
