As a guy who is ex-Army who was issued three-point slings throughout his entire military career, I can tell you it's good to have somebody in your platoon that has at least a few credits towards Structural Engineering to get those things attached...

I sling in real tight with a standard GI sling on my 20" A2 and make hits at 500 yards with it. I'll gladly trade any possible accuracy issues for the huge amount of added stability.
@@ISAFSoldier Part of the reason to heat treat steel is to make it so it can flex and return to original form rather than crack or permanently deform. Using a bipod with proper bracing tension can throw off PoI by a few inches at 100 yards, depending on multiple factors (barrel profile, strength and weight of shooter, hand guard type, location of bipod mount), so it's not unreasonable that you could introduce significant barrel flex with a sling.

Being in California, vie never had to use a sling because you can't carry it anywhere. Just recently bought a proctor sling and her info came in handy, especially put the sling on the outside of the stock.

Judging from what people who like 3 point slings say, if someone knows how to use them they can have niche uses and allow someone to carry it in ways a 2 point can't be. Seems a bit overkill for such a small benefit to me, but I'm no expert.

I was thinking, what if you did a 1 point sling setup but had a magnet attached to the side of the rifle that would magnetize to something on your lower abdomen/hip region? This would make it so the weapon wouldn't sway about when walking or running with it attached but leave both of your hands free. Am I stupid for thinking this could be a potentially good idea?
Yoo I just got a sling and it's been amazing, I wish I knew sooner how helpful they are. I've been having trouble holding my rifle for long periods of time without shaking because I got on HRT recently, but the sling has helped with that so much.

Alternatively, you just pop the sling to max extension when you take contact. That way you can shoot from prone, transition sides, and drop it to prep a frag without having to fiddle with the quick adjust tab. And single point slings are good for being in and out of vehicles a bunch. So... I guess I'm saying situation dictates gear and employment.

well done young lady. when i use my sling its not atached to my body . i wrap my forarm through it for very stable control as you demomstraited. this is more for a hunting situation than tacticool. the ching sling frome Brounels is worth a look.

I like the two points slings, is what i had on my CETME-L and what we had on the LCs, LVs and also on the MG-3s of the company; my FN Auto 5 also have a two points sling. For me a good sling is important and what i value the most on a sling is retention and comfort in that order, i find both things on a traditional two points sling.
I prefer single point sling for getting into the fight but my go to rifle for when the world ends has a 2 point because I might be carrying that bitch for a good while
I'm a big fan of the Sky Tactical slings, in large part because 1) they ask your height and build when you order, so the sling shows up pretty much adjusted for you, and 2) it is set up so you can keep the sling on you and unclip the rifle from it so you can set you gun down, or swap between weapons using only one sling
I never realized the benefits of modern 2 pt slings until a couple years ago, when I started getting back into shooting after a couple decades layoff. I had an oldie 2 pt from the 90's and switched to a one from trex. It was like a eureka moment. Eureka! 💡
I like the 2 to one slings not because I ever use the rifle with a single point, but because I can switch to single point and then unclip the rifle while keeping the sling on me
I really enjoy the Magpul 2-to-1 sling as well. The one-point mode makes it super easy to hang the gun on the front of a plate carrier, and the straps run through the shoulder channels in such a way that it also doesn't dig into my neck. Only complaint is how bulky the buckles are (if I have to sling it around to the other side or something, they catch on loops and stuff easily).
You missed the downside of slinging your weapon to your body: If you are on the move and you bust your ass, you run the chance of being chin-checked to sleep. On the flip side, you may wake right back up well rested.
I love my single point sling... on my AR pistol (no brace or stock). Every other of my other rifles have two point (some adjustable, some not). Thanks for your video.
Single points have a place - If your using something like a Yugo M92, HK SP5, Vz. 62, PLR-16, etc. that sling tension they offer is invaluable. Once you you toss a brace, stock, etc. on it - It's useless in the best case, a detriment in the worst.

The older style nylon fixed 2 points are still pretty useful for doing precision/long range things, in my experience (seated/on knee/against obstacles, using the sling to rigidly brace to shoulder with a heavier rifle). Definitely dig the quick adjusts for this sort of stuff, though!
Two point slings on classic rifles are the best teaching aid. It can be from a SKS in the 70s or Mosin in the 20s. You have to carry this, yes, but you also have to be able to use this.
Nice concise video. I like how you also seem to be a fan of bumping instead of swimming out and switching hands. Although I like a single point sling for pump shotguns because I've seen a bunch of people grab the sling with the pump. Although a single point to two point sling is a good option for pump shotguns so you can convert it to two point for more static times.
I do like 3-point slings. I use a Specter Gear 3-point QD sling with the emergency release buckle, and it's never done me wrong. Its a 1-3/4" nylon web sling, so its way more comfy than the other ones I have used. If I need to use a 1- or 2-point sling, the Magpul MS4 is my go-to, though I do wish they had more padding, as it's 1-1/2" nylon web and can really dig with a fully decked-out long gun.
Great information as usual TGF! I also appreciate you offering up options that may work for some and not others based on preference or use case. I see a lot of personalities try to suggest "the way I do it is the only valid way of doing it" when in reality there are pros and cons to everything. Only thing I would add is that the sling adjustment may change slightly when shooting slick vs shooting in kit. Looking forward to your next video!
That pistol brace was designed for folks like myself with disabilities. Now we can't have them anymore because people have abused them. Think of it like this, do you park in a disabled person parking spot? It's the exact same thing. I really appreciate you for all your content but it's videos like this that have caused us with legitimate disabilities to lose this tool. BTW I got my disabilities defending all of our rights. Disabled US Army Veteran here. Other than that keep up the great work.

The biggest problem with 3 point slings is that most people don't know how to use them properly, and even if they do they are probably using them on a rifle that is not designed for it with the wrong kind of mounts. They have a lot of utility for military and some police uses, but frankly they aren't worth the bother for most civillian situations. Basically you should only ever use one if you have been issued it, never buy one.
The best application of a 3 point sling is by people who have more training than any of us that are clearing buildings, ALA the British SAS with their MP5's.

I run a Vickers sling on my Tavor X95 using the same set-up you show here, but I use a single point, hooked right behind the pistol grip, on my 7-1/2" AR pistol. Good video, explaining how-to.

Is there any concern with applying pressure to the sling throwing shots off to the side with non-free-float handguards?
That's a good question! If enough pressure is applied I suppose that could theoretically affect shot placement.

A few good brands (I personally have the Magpul MS3 Gen2) has a QD single to double sling. Works great, and gives the option to train either method.

That's a good question! I'm sure you could try wrapping it under the buffer tube somehow so it's angled to not get in the way.

BIG reason for running the sling on the far side… So can easily bump the stock to the opposite shoulder without moving your hands on transition.

I still have my old 2point & 3point slings from the military, just ordered a modern 2point, never actually used one before.

I run a IWI Tavor X95 and it definitely has its challenges with the sling and shooting unorthodox. But I love it!
I currently run a Magpul sling but I really want to try the ESD sling. YT has unsubscribed me before but this IR relationship cannot be canceled!
