Ancestry and 23 and ME need to get on board. Shame on them for not helping

I understand where you're coming from but these organizations are concerned about their users' privacy. It's amazing that cold cases are finally being solved yet the potential for misuse can't be disregarded hence the reluctance on the part of Ancestry and 23 and Me. I'm definitely a supporter of using genetic genealogy to solve cold cases but I do respect the need for privacy too. Stay safe and be well.

Every person who has tested their DNA can upload it to Gedmatch for free and opt in to making it available to law enforcement. Don't need the other companies to get on board.

The best way for "amateur sleuths" to help solve cold cases isn't OSINT nor years of experience as a Police officer, it seems simply donating one DNA data to public genealogy datasets is the best way. :)

Yes, yes, yes, but did the corpse 'self-identify' as Joseph Henry Loveless?

So what made you sure you identified him ?

I'd love to do forensic genealogy but I doubt myself too much

You're working with factual evidence so doubt is irrelevant.

you should try and get a team together to do all those shameful untouched rape kits in America's police departments. think of all the lives you could save by putting away serial rapists that turn murderer when set loose.

People give DNA samples to these commercial companies for their own research, not to implicate any of their family in a crime.
There seems to be a lack of transparent legal protections in this area.

Who wouldn't want criminals to be identified? And locked away if they're alive to prevent them reoffending?

@@SamStone1964 this is why my own DNA went to OTHRAM. to identify a possible criminal in the family. WHy?? allow criminals to remain on the streets?
