Been in for 7 years now, biggest thing is just to not quit, you will never be perfect and its the instructors job to rag on you about that constantly. Honestly worst part is just staying awake for the death by power point.
Also leaving for bmq in a few days! A few Questions: do they let you use your phone, if yes when? And do they let you out to see someone on weekends? Or its a complete isolated kind of training? Next question: when is the first initial fitness assessment done? What do they expect? Do they ask for pushups? I am bad at those.
Awesome video and checklist. To add to the band-aids, the one private who brought the blister specific bandaids was a savior. I also brought 2 boxes of protein bars, though had to keep those on the low down. I remember just being hungry every night between dinner and sleep. Either way great list.👌
One final important bit of advice is that be careful about letting people know about your RUclips channel. You will have classes about having social media and being in the CAF. Having a RUclips channel you are representing the CAF on the internet when you’re not yet graduated BMQ and only a PTE(R). This might give you some unwanted attention from the instructors if they hear about it. Just be careful. Good luck and see you on the other side bro
I’m going to basic soon for infantry then have to go to dp1 the next day I live close to gagetown and I have a few questions, first of all can I choose to come to gagetown since I live 30 minutes away from it and also can I come and sleep at the house I live at now if I do get to gagetown or do you have to stay on base every night for the whole course, responses would be incredibly helpful as this stuff has kinda left me in the dark wondering thank you
@ I realize that u have to for the 9 weeks of bmq but the day after you then get sent to DP1 so my questions was towards DP1 as can you choose wich base based on where you live and do you need to stay on base every night for 5 months of DP1
The #1 advice I would give as a graduate for prepping for BMQ is to stretch. Stretch whatever free time you have and hydrate. Trust me that will save you more than you realize. The 25 pushups is the minimum for the mini punishments(unzipped pockets, open buttons, etc). You’ll have to do more for the “beastings” which you’ll learn about. I would say yes running 5k is a start but hope your good at walking with 30lbs+ as well for 5k+ Also don’t expect to do a lot of physical stuff when you get there. Your first 4 weeks is just admin and classes. You’ll have pt with PSP here and there, you’ll have “beastings” and of course those dreaded stairs which you’ll also learn about. But that’s pretty much it. Week 5-9 is where it starts to get fun.

Do you have advice to prepare for BMQ and what I should expect?
@ make sure you can do 25 push-ups without stopping, prepare yourself to start running and work up to 5km if possible, get as close as you can
