Carbon wheel set was the worst "upgrade" I ever made to my bike... I thought my suspension was broken because the ride was so terrible... A strong alloy wheel all day everyday... My go to rim these days is EX471 ... Carbon is all marketing, always chasing that 'alloy like feel'... Little bit like all those air shock chasing that coil like feel... Just buy alloy wheels to get the alloy feel... In saying that, some cheaper alloy wheels feel so terrible, so get some nice ones built by a good builder... Or build your own it's the best feeling ever
Ive got a set of we are one carbon wheels. They're fantastic and I'd much rather have them than something like an ext or a push shock. I've dented every alloy rim I've owned (except for a dt Swiss ex511) but my carbon rims are as good as the day I got them almost a year ago! Their warrenty is also amazing, if I ever destroy one, they'll send me a new rim free of charge!
It would be hard to upgrade my dt Swiss 350 hubs and traverse alloy to motor zip wheels that are expensive carbon to feel more alloy. I did upgrade my suspension and have no regrets.
I'm into carbon wheels as long as a can take 4 interest free payments 😅 I want to believe the "won't come untrue" part but I'm salivating at the crash replacement some are offering. I didn't look for that so with my tax return money I got a set of 9 velo mt30, let me say: warranty from china is a warranty from china. They'll honor it, even sent me a extra XD hub body along wity my MS one but it took 5 fkin weeks 😂 I'm currently shopping for something local with a crash replacement warranty, nobl maybe, if I can buy them with sezzle or klarna whatever 😂
Just about every DH race I watched, some racer will destroy one and potentially really hurt them selves, where there will be heaps more alloy rims cooked, but not actually exploding. I know the high end carbon brands have lifetime warranty, it more about the riders well being
You said it at the begining: Good Rider, will ride better on any bike (unless is a real lemon!). Don't want to cut you series (which I like, honest, no wannabish - marketing BS), but you should "test/try" a MTB lesson/Course, meaning pay to polish some skills (I call it "Software upgrades", and compare it with "hardware upgrades" (meaning suspension/brakes/etc). From experience... it's preferable to spend a few dollars on some advance course (once or twice a year)... but that's just me!
Nice I like this idea of software hardware. For sure my skills have gone down recently, and have no urge to even ride anymore it’s like a job to go film shocks. New bike didn’t even fix it.
@@bfranco1519 I’ve ridden a Stora and the 11.6 I’ve ridden extensively. Both great shocks. But from experience the strength and lack of upkeep on a carbon wheel is more valuable for most people.
@@OtterMTBtech there’s a reason everyone is or moving to IFP. It has a far harder time of blowing up. When I pick a shock I usually like to choose on that doesn’t break easily which is RS.
I have a bearing mount on new bike the bearing is bad not even a month later. I have some bushings from 5 years ago that still work fine. I have push 11-6 has special hardware
Would be nice if you can test the Zipp moto vs Alu wheelset back to back with the same suspension. I also own them, quite comfortable, but also have rev grips and a carbon oneup (flex) bar (and fox38), so overall pretty comfortable setup.

I’m on your team. The alloy wheels I had custom made are bombers and stiff

I’ve got an Ex511 that buckled within a year. light bicycle carbon has been great
You should get Onyx Vesper hubs

I like silent hubs and wheels, dead silent

Carbon wheels last forever. Make sure you account for the extra stiffness in the wheel with a lower pressure tires or a non DH casing.

Get both

Carbon wheel all day. Rockshox is just as good as EXT for most people.
Spoken like some who has never rode EXT shocks.

It’s blasphemy on this channel to say rockshox is a good product…..heaven forbid….. 🤫
😂 this one is good. Vivid coil is on par with Fox ends there. The none IFP EXT is more pop than float X and more traction than DHX2.

Would You consider testnig bearings vs bushings on shock mounts? Looks like a nice idea nobody speaks about,)

Jordi Cortez from fox says, that "mid stroke support" doesn't exist...
That is Because Jordy tunes fox shocks
Brian at Stoic wheels is the man.

Carbon, alloy is too soft for me, actually running Roval HD 350 wheelset and they are amazing and really compliant
You are a giant among men. Best lunch video ever
Depends on the goal
Go with the suspension, i have broken 2 hydra axles. Cassetts with alloy cogs are a nogo on ebikes
Hydras are known to have that problem tho, has nothing to do with the durability of carbon rims being discussed or other high quality hubs
Dt370 forever!!!!! 4 years still going
