    When adding liquid chlorine to the pool you should do it AS LOW AS POSSIBLE. In this video it was poured from chest high and you could see/hear it splashing. This will bleach your clothing, burn your skin and stain some pool decks.

    I slowly poor the liquid chlorine over a return jet with the pump running, it disperses it quite well....easier than running all around the pool.

    Why do you dilute it with pool water? I'm confused bcse the guy at pinch a penny told me to just dump it directly. And, do you also use powder shock?
    Thx!

      Liquid chlorine = shock. Just depends on maintenance dose versus mega dose

      @@drdrew3 depending on pool water volumn and how much CYA you have in your pool determines how much PPM free chlorine you should maintain to santatize your pool. You also don't want to get your CYA PPM to high which is easy to do with tablets that contain 6 PPM per 3 inch tablet that is why liquid chlorine is preferable. CYA should be ideally between 30-50 ppm base to provide UV protection to the chlorine, but you still lose chlorine throughout the daytime anyway just not as quickly. So adding chlorine at the right time to give it enough tine to sanitize is critical, after sunset either by manual pouring as seen in this video or adapting a chlorine feeder to your pump for automatic disbursement. For a 10,000 gal pool, 1 gal of liquid chlorine is the regular "shock" level (comparable to one bag of dry shock), but if you have mild algae you double that to 2 gallons for super shock which may need to be done again the next day too depending on how severe your pool algae is, brush the walls first each time too to expose algae to the Chlorine. Note: Liquid Chlorine is known for raising PH so expect to test and adjust to balance PH and Alkalinity whch is very important too. Supposedly if you wait after shocking rhe PH will return to normal, just hasn't worked out that way for me. Another method is "non chlorine" oxidizer Shock treatments, which have some benefits over regular Chlorine Shock. One, you can add it anytime day or night it is not distroyed by UV and you can swim a few minutes later. It distroys contaminents that feed alage so your regular Chlorine doesn't have to saving it for sanitizing work making more efficient use of your liquid chlorine. Non Chlorine shock will not kill alage but it nutrilizes it's food sources so along with an alagecide you might not need to chlorine shock your pool. Also "stagnet water" along with warm temperatures is ideal conditions for algae growth too, so make sure to run your pump to at least cycle all the water through the filter once. Another rule of thumb is run the pump for 1 hr for every 10 degrees water temperature, but minimally it's recommended 6-8 hrs depending on pump speed to complete one turn over of all the pool water but the bigger the pool the longer you may need to run your pump. There is a calculation method to determine volume/pump speed to get GPH and how long it will take to turn over. I check my pool daily (when I let my dog out in the morning) for foriegn objects blown into the pool, clean out baskets of organic matter and every day in the summer test my chlorine and PH/AL. There are online calculators that you can plug test results into and it will tell you how much to add to balance too.

    • @DIYGEEKTEXAS
      @DIYGEEKTEXAS  2 года назад +1

      good chlorine level is 2-4 ppm depending on CYA level. If CYA level is high, you have to increase Chlorine level. if there is algae, then you need to shock it and bring the chlorine up to SHOCK level which for a 20,000 gallon pool should be 16 ppm

      Be careful about buying large amounts of liquid chlorine unless you’re a in the business, Liquid chlorine can quickly lose it’s effectiveness if left out in hot weather. At least that’s what I’ve read.
