    Great video, I ordered a set of 8” Lanzar 2 way coaxial speakers from amazon. Speakers were just a little too big for the openings, going to try some spacers for a even fit. Speakers sound great, perfect for mid bass with aftermarket head unit.

    More of a general question to gauge your opinion: the tweeter in one door has failed. I’m looking at a two way replacement speaker: will this adaquately replace the u/s tweeter?

    • @Chorca
      @Chorca  5 лет назад

      I don't know much about the factory tweeter; I haven't inspected it. There's some info on the NB's audio systems here: www.miata.net/garage/nbaudio/index.html
      I'd assume that the speakers are just tied in parallel and there's some sort of simple filter network in the tweeter to block out damaging low frequencies, but I don't know for sure.
      You may be able to find a comparable tweeter, it would probably help though by bringing the high frequencies closer to your head where they're easier to hear.

    did you plug the tweeter back in? does it still work? I'm unsure whether to get a coax or a set of components

    The stock mid-woofer that you replaced gets the mid-woofer range from the stereo. The tweeter found higher on the door gets the higher range. That will still happen, so effectively your tri-axial speaker is really only a bi-axial speaker. The high range still goes to your stock tweeter. That is, unless you disconnected your stock tweets when you installed the aftermarket stereo.

  • @sirmidnightracers

    Are you running any kind of amp to them? or just the power from the head unit? If so how much power from the head unit? Or is it the factory radio? Thanks just want to do this to my car!

    • @Chorca

      sirmidnightracers just the factory wiring, with an aftermarket Alpine head unit.

    Note for new viewers - The speakers in this video have been discontinued. Now there is a similar model , Renegade RX830. I could only get 3 of the screw holes to line up perfectly. However there are no rattles so everything should be fine. The new speakers were only $35
    UPDATE : actually they line up perfectly on one door and don't on the other (who knows) .... Bad news - they kinda don't sound that good? I was expecting way more bass response than they put out. I would rate them 15-20 percent better than the stock speakers which really isn't saying much. I'll probably leave them for now and look into getting some really nice speakers that are the stock size eventually.

    • @aurichio7783
      @aurichio7783 4 года назад

      alexjumpstar thanks for the update, but yeah i wouldn’t really expect speakers that are below $80 at least to be any good unfortunately. did you buy new speakers? if so, how do they sound now?

    • @jeanboy9108
      @jeanboy9108 3 года назад +1

      @@aurichio7783 they're 4ohm rated at 200w rms, if you run these, dont expect good sound when plugging them directly to your head unit, chances are they won't perform even close to peak power. Instead get a set and run them with an Amplifier. That's the only way you'll be able to run these without it sounding like stock 6.5 speakers

    Just bought some speakers to throw in my NB today, I thought I'd need an adapter or clip-style to make the connection, but how does this hold up? It seems to me that crimping the little leaf-ends of those wires won't be the best for longevity, if anyone's done this, can you confirm that this method will hold up? I don't want to do it twice, also, awesome video! Gives me a lot of confindence to tackle this little job myself tonight

    • @Chorca
      @Chorca  5 лет назад

      This is basically how most speakers pretty much everywhere are connected, Mazda just opted to build it into their own connector. Removing their special one and slightly crimping the spade terminals makes it work like a normal speaker connector. Mine are still working fine.

      Chris Purola no worries I saw the comments, those looked tall so just wanted to ask if they interfered with the window going down or if they had a good amount of space. Just took my stock ones apart and one is blown pretty bad so gonna have to replace:/ (probably cuz whoever installed didn’t secure wires properly so I got more work taking the head unit out) thanks anyway

      @@osalcedoucmsae I’m not 100% sure cause I’m just going from memory, but I think the speakers will never interfere with the window. The place where the speaker is further forward than the edge of the window glass. So they cannot interfere with the window.

  • @skyhawk7935

    Tightly crimp down just the back half of the spade connector. That way it's easy to slip on to the speaker terminal and will still lock in. From experience I know this. Just watching this for shits and giggles.

      You have to connect the speakers the same on each side of the car or they will be out of phase! So, whatever markings are on the speaker are for this reference so you hook them up correctly, whether it's plus and minus, or red and black.
