I clicked this just to see what myth it was talking about, not knowing of any. I didn't know anyone ever thought this. Nor do I know how they wound up thinking this.
It's super useful! Harpoon lines are also the only way you can sprint while carrying things. Even chests and other large items won't prevent you from sprinting while you're on a tightrope. Just be ready for the balance to be a lot more touchy than it is while walking along it.
@@samalamading141 Yeah, I just heard about that! I've been on a break recently taking care of other things, but I'm so glad my #1 requested QOL change is finally here. Thanks for the heads-up :)
Yeah. Strangely enough, whenever the topic comes up in vids or social posts that are popular enough to have a lot of comments, there are always people saying that repairing at the shipwright is important for more than aesthetics.
@@ryo-kai8587wow thank you so much, I honestly believed this for the longest time. repairing was one of my main priorities when solo hourglassing, good to know that I don’t have to worry as much about patched tier 3 holes reopening.
@@gdrad not really. Again, I'm not trying to be mean at all, but there is definitley visual clarity to it. Try looking at each of the three tiers side by side. The amount of splintered wood around the hole is vastly different. Tier 1 has almost none. Tier 2 has some. And Tier 3 has a lot. A significant amount more than Tier 2
Totally agree that we shouldn't pay for repairs at the shipwright. First of all, wear your battle scars proudly. Second, if you do pay for repairs, something will happen as soon as you sail away from the outpost to make you question your decision.
Too true haha! I'll still pay to look pristine when I feel like it though. It's also a good metric for how hectic that particular voyage got, if you repaired before you started!
The amount of people i see say that the hole gets bigger if it was repaired by plank shocks me, i hope these people see this video lol. All they have to do is repair their hole, and watch the hole get hit again, and see if its the same size or lower. Great quick video, hope this stops people from wasting money repairing their ship at the shipwright :)
good video for new players i guess but never once heared from anyone beliving that a fixed hole stayes at the same dmg tier it was after getting hit again and i play since beta. but other than that you explained it well and your voice sound chill perfect for explaining stuff, keep it up and you may get somewhere with it
Thanks a lot, I appreciate the compliment :) I still see a lot of comments on other creators' videos saying that repairing at the shipwright is important from a gameplay perspective, so I wanted to do my part to help disprove that.
@@ryo-kai8587 oh my bad than, i just never heard about this myth. well i appreciate your work in helping others clean up this misconception as i said keep it up and best of luck^^
No problem, happy to help. I still see a lot of comments spreading this rumor, so I wanted to do my part even though I don't usually make this sort of video. I still use the repair option just to look nice, though!
Now the question would be where the myth came from? Not playing the game long enough to be sure about this but is it possible that it once was like this and that they changed it? Or did it always work like it does now? Because in my time of playing it was. The paying for shiprepair was just cosmetic. Unless you did it while you had open holes. And btw after dragging a sloop through hundrets of HG matches without paying for repairs i can tell you that at some point a ship cant get more damaged and the price for repair doesnt go up anymore and sometimes even goes down a bit depending on how much damage you took and repaired during the fight. For example an optical damage repair for a level 3 hole is more expensive than a level one, so if you get shot at a spot with a fixed level 3 hole and fix it its now a fixed level 1 and thats cheaper to repair with money.
I can't tell you where it came from. I only started playing on Steam after the PS5 release several months ago, since my friend got it then and wanted to play with me. I still see it mentioned whenever the topic of repairs comes up on popular videos with a lot of comments, so I wanted to help clarify how it works.
Cannon balls did not always deal different damage types. It used to be you had one cannon ball and one hole size The myth probably sprung up by people not understanding the new more complex system.
The other myth is that repairing damage leaves the hull weaker so you must get a shipwright to fix it properly. It's BS as repairing is 100% repaired, the damage is just cosmetic and some us like our battle scars on our hulls. Plus it makes us look vulnerable and lures noob players in who want an ass-whopping! ha ha!

I don't know how or why the rumor began, but I've seen multiple people saying it in different threads which is why I made this video.
This is how i find out i can sprint on harpoon lines

@@ryo-kai8587 side note to your reply, in a recent update, they made it so you can sprint with smaller treasure all the time!

it's more of being used to other games leaving aid for damages, only for it to not heal/repair it completely
Actually needed this video so much, thanks :D
