I really love your playing here! I've been trying to learn Nocturne No. 1 for a while. I just love the opening. I'd love to try it on an 1870s piano just like one it might have been written for. So much innovation happened in pianoing between 1875 and 1922 that I'm curious what glowing quality might emerge from a piano from the time Debussy was at Conservatoire.

Merci

Echoing somehwat what another commentor said that this choice of piano must have merit in the pianist's eyes (ears?) but, for me this was a poor choice. Most of the pianos Faure would have encountered were the remnants of the French Era of piano making, with Erard and Pleyel ruling. Pianos would rapidly change from the more intimate straihgt-strung and lower tensioned instruments, to the heavier full-perimeter plate versions (by 1870 for sure).
A nice 225cm Erard, Pleyel or even Bechstein from 1890 might have been better suited to this music and era - offering more colors and better sustain for this recording.
The playing is quite nice and musical, but the piano is rather flat sounding and somehwat unremarkable tonally.
