My very first dog was a female Beagle puppy just 6 weeks old. Immediately she developed very strong separation anxiety. I tried to tell my wife how much would be involved with raising our new puppy but she wouldn't listen. We both worked at the time and we were gone all day and trained our Dixie to her crate. Of course we made all the mistakes outlined in the video and eventually our poor Beagle grew extremely lazy and overweight fast. My wife would hardly ever take her for a walk or outside. I got hurt at work and had several surgeries and became disabled so eventually we kept her out in the house with me all day and night. We became very attached to each other and she would follow me around the house everywhere and grieve when I would be gone for doctor appointments. Well long story short, when my Dixie was 8 years old she was so overweight she had trouble getting around good and I noticed some strange behavior and had my wife take her to the vet. I expected the vet would put her on a diet but we were told she had kidney disease and had maybe 6 months to live as her kidneys were already in stage 1 or 2 failure. My Dixie lasted only 4 months and passed peacefully in her sleep by my chair during the night several months ago. I never thought I would have ever gotten so attached to a dog but I have struggled and cried every single day. I miss my Dixie so much and please no matter how much they beg and sad faces do not over feed, treat, and sneak them table food.... and exercise them everyday.

Can Beagles live comfortably in an apartment or do they need a huge house like a bungalow? Please help me! We’re planning to get a dog and I would like a Beagle.
Beagles can absolutely live in an apartment! But only if you stay committed to walks and exercising them a lot. When I had mine in an apartment they needed daily long walks and a lot of trips to the dog park to keep them exercised/socialized and not destructive.
@@anah8008 For sure! They can be kind of stubborn and very high energy so definitely be ready for that though. If you are fine with that and prepared then they are awesome. I was a first time pet owner when I got my first one. Even though they can be stubborn, they are INSANELY food driven and very smart so they can be really easy to train. I would definitely say though that they are not a breed you can ever let off leash. They are too scent driven and no matter how well trained they are there is definitely a risk they will run off on you if they smell something.

I'm going to get my daughter a beagle and this channel helped me alot thank you. But want I'm worried about is it true female beagles are more stubborn than male? Because I want to get a female beagle
Well I don't know but I have heard this a lot... And I don't prefer female because they will get children and it will be difficult... I can't have many pets and I don't won't my pet's children to not be with me. Many people give it away to friends and family but I don't want to separate a mother from its child and a child from its mother... 🥺
I have tried hard enough for my beagle to get along with our Cockatiel bird and nothing. So I'm not sure if that is gonna work out any time soon. We had him since he was 2 months old and today he turns 1 year old.
Rabbit dogs don't care bout birds. My cockatiel used to sit on my beagles back. Then one day the kids brought a cat home, and my Cockatiel lost free range of the house. Cats love birds. Only let him out of his cage in the den, cat free room. Anyhow my beagle was pretty laid back.
How much do they rate?(does male or female cost the same) And at which month we can by them And how much time will it take to be trained? Please reply i wanna buy and i wanna be a good owner its going to be my first pet so i am just nervous that can i look after it or not
Hello. Thanks for your super duper videos on beagles. I have one question to ask you. I have been taking care of my beagle puppy since he was 2months old.now he is 8months. I've been noticing something with him. When I'm around he puts things in mouth, pee anywhere else than the designated area; basically seeking my attention. Whereas when I'm not around or when he is put up at my mother's place. He behaves so well. No complaints at all. How do I address this behavior of his?
@@g.gonzalez8763 Keep training him and over the period of time it will get alright. These clever fellows seek attention and sometimes they do it just for fun. But they very well know what they are putting in their mouth. Even if u give him same food, only after smelling it dey will eat it. Otherwise they won't even open their mouth for it. Peeing in designated areas comes over time. Female puppy is easier than male in terms of training
Too late...I’ve made all of these mistakes with my 2 yr old lab. Now I have a 70 lb dog with some significant behavior problems. But there is hope - I’ve hired a trainer to teach me how to fix these problems.
To newbies out there .... In my opinion never leave your beagle in the house in the first few years, many beagles cannot cope, they are pack dogs, also minimise or eradicate treats, they need masses of hierachy, keep starngers / neighbours from fawning over him, never have a quiet house, leave a radio on if you think yr beagle can cope with his own company for a little while, barking means "I want out" ... low protein feed, cod liver oil for brain function (ie the dog hi) .... talk to them, the voice is everything. He must always walk to me. No meat, no bones, ours would be crazy from such hierachical food. Had them fr 27yrs, if I get another its a childs gate at bottom of stairs, ditto into sitting room, he will have his basket in the kitchen and use of the hallway. He must stay on the deck, he must always be in receipt of a command, sit stay etc. absolutely no face licking. Our second one Smudge Rossmaith was hell for the first six years .... Love 'em!
I have a feeling she didn't make any of these mistakes, she just took the top 10 list of mistakes owners make and turned it into a fictitious personal account.
I know this is out of the question but I got a new puppy last month and he is a little different as in breed so I told his previous owners what breed he is and they said pit bull and beagle mix and I was shocked and amazed so I loved him more but I know how to train a pit bull since I was little but he sometimes do things that a beagle does and was wondering for u can help me with this or if u know someone who can? My puppy is pit bull / beagle mix 2 months I have him now a month and few weeks
One question from what age we can giving training to our beagle because mine is just 45 days old and he being the first dog I am very possessive with his training and other stuff. Please suggest.....
As soon as possible - maybe you can begin right away with his house training. During that time, you cannot use much of treats as I believe he must not be fully vaccinated. Till my puppy was 3 months, I used to use his food as treats to teach him few basic commands like stay, sit, down, leave etc. All these commands are crucial to be learnt esp. when you start taking him outside and he will see new things. Then you can begin with his potty training (go potty) and leash training as well with a strong emphasis on these basic commands (esp. Leave as beagle eat anything and everything that crawls on the ground). Also please start teaching him to stay alone since day 1 - so he remains independent and doesnt have seperation anxiety whenever you leave home.
First, never let the dog jump on your bed without you say yes 😂 my beagle sleep on the foot of the bed and curled up on my blanket. And proceed to sleep on his own bed later on. Beagles are smart dog ❤
They will sleep right next to you. Head on pillow! No! My biggest problem is walking Cleo - the constant stoppages, going backwards, sniffing at everything... funny for a while, but infuriating after 4 years. Beautiful, good natured dogs - but don't get a beagle unless you have children to play with them.
Beagles live to eat! My 2 would, if they had the chance, try to eat a 44lb bag of food at once all while making sure the other one did not get more! Also, they will try to eat anything. So food training has been very important.
Thanks for the info! Very useful. My only problem with our beagle is that he barks when he hears someone at the door, just a person passing by or even when a person tries to hold him, only when he's inside our house, cos when outside, he's letting other people to pet him. What seems to be the problem here? Thanks!
He is just protective of his house and your family, and this is normal. By barking he just wants to let you know that there's someone in your house. To stop this behavior, ask you friends and extended family members to come visit your house and teach your pooch to behave correctly.
What sometimes really helps is if you stand up, put your hands behind you, and don't acknowledge the dog until they are acting more calmly. Hopefully your beagle continues to improve, good luck!
Now I know you know squat...ruin their appetite? That’s Funny😂😂😂😂😂😂😂the thing you had write is don’t over feed them. Most of what you said was for marriot of dogs! 🤨 oh yeah I am a father of two Beagles, and a grand dad to one! Exercise is the key to a happy person and Beagle!
What age is best to start walking beagles around the block? My beagle is almost 13 weeks and he won’t go more than 5 ft from our place before he yanks his leash to go back home. As an alternative I try running back and forth with him in our apartment but I’m sure my downstairs neighbors hate that. Is he just too young?
Take treats with you when you take him for walks outside. It is really crucial as we need to introduce him to people and sights. Also it is always better to initiate their leash training as soon as possible, which can only be done on these walks. A beagle cant be kept leash free till they have mentally matured which is almost upto 18 months. My beagle is now 8 months, and has slowly adapted well to the leash/heel training - so I have bought a long leash for him which I use when I take him to park provided there are not many people around.
Sometimes beagles are scared of a lot of noises. You just have to get them acclimated to it. When my girl was a pup I’d carry her when walking by a busy street so she’d get used to the noise. Now when I walk her she could not care less and only wants to sniff EVERY SINGLE THING.
Give your beagle one or two days to get comfortable in your house and then you can start with their training. Start by teaching her simple commands like Sit, stay and come.
It's normal and healthy for puppies (and adult dogs) to wrestle. However, if you think it's getting too rough it's good to have a recall command and a sit command so that you can call them both away from the game and give them something else to do. Use positive reinforcement to train them.
Try rewarding them with a small healthy treat whenever you walk into a room and they are just playing with a toy or behaving. While you're trying to get rid of the behavior, remove the items you can and slowly reintroduce it (this would be more for clothes and items left on the floor since you can't take away furniture). For instance, after a few days of reinforcement set a sock beside the pup and reward them when they look at you instead of eating it. I also found having a lot of toys of different textures and hardnesses really help keep them uninterested in my own items. Baby steps, you got this!
He is not getting enough exercise. My beagle has the same issue. So, we started taking him for 1 hour long walk in morning and evening. If he is still hyper, then I give him a kong filled with treats/interactive dog toys and play soothing music (PS he always sleeps when he listens to them). Also I have attached a rope to the window to the end of which I have tied his favourite chew toy. So, most of the time he keeps on tugging on that. That also helps in getting rid of his pent up energy. Additionally, basic training of commands is really crucial. We have been training him on these commands since day 1 - he still makes mistakes however he is getting better every passing day.
I get my first beagle this Monday & I’m so excited ! My girl & I are overjoyed to get our new baby to become apart of the family.

Wow, having a Beagle seems to be as tough as raising a human child, except your beagle won't steal your money or slam doors when you make mistakes 😂
Still, I'd love to get a dog over a kid one day when I can afford it.
Thank you for sharing
My pleasure :)

True 💕
Another very accurate video !!
I just like your content a lot 🙂
Hey thanks a lot :)
I can relate.....wish I had a houseful of the Great dog - Beagle.!!!!!
My dog (the one as my profile pic) was my first puppy I got! But we didn’t know she was blind so she was and still is a handful 2x 😂
Can Beagles live comfortably in an apartment or do they need a huge house like a bungalow? Please help me! We’re planning to get a dog and I would like a Beagle.
Yes
Beagles can absolutely live in an apartment! But only if you stay committed to walks and exercising them a lot. When I had mine in an apartment they needed daily long walks and a lot of trips to the dog park to keep them exercised/socialized and not destructive.
@@juliarivera-whalen6787 Okay. Thank you! Do you recommend a Beagle for a first-time-pet-owner?
@@anah8008 For sure! They can be kind of stubborn and very high energy so definitely be ready for that though. If you are fine with that and prepared then they are awesome. I was a first time pet owner when I got my first one. Even though they can be stubborn, they are INSANELY food driven and very smart so they can be really easy to train. I would definitely say though that they are not a breed you can ever let off leash. They are too scent driven and no matter how well trained they are there is definitely a risk they will run off on you if they smell something.
@@juliarivera-whalen6787 Oh Lord. Thank you so much! I can’t wait for my Beagle pup! I think I’ll name him Reece. 🥺
Thank you so much I will never make these mistakes
Sure & thanx

Hi ! Please tell how should I stop my beagle 2months old puppy biting ?
Thank you
You're welcome :)
this was me when I first got my dog! so next beagle I get I'll make sure to do it better! X
In humans girls are the best.
And in dogs I like male dogs better because I have one (male)
I have tried hard enough for my beagle to get along with our Cockatiel bird and nothing. So I'm not sure if that is gonna work out any time soon. We had him since he was 2 months old and today he turns 1 year old.
Rabbit dogs don't care bout birds. My cockatiel used to sit on my beagles back. Then one day the kids brought a cat home, and my Cockatiel lost free range of the house. Cats love birds. Only let him out of his cage in the den, cat free room. Anyhow my beagle was pretty laid back.
Happy belated birthday to your dog!
Love your videos❤. Wait r u from India🇮🇳
I am glad you :)
How much do they rate?(does male or female cost the same)
And at which month we can by them
And how much time will it take to be trained?
Yo I’m on the same page as you! How did you address the issue
Better late than never! I am glad you are taking the training seriously and hired a trainer. That's very responsible of you :)
"Long Don" Beagle. :D
Love 'em!
I looked up what to do if your puppy is whining in the cage and people were saying to ignore in, is this good to do?
Well, crate training should be done over months. I have written an entire article on it: beaglecare.com/crate-train-beagle/
I made all the mistakes😭
That’s why He growls too much
Plz make a solution on this video 🥺😭🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
Solution videos coming in soon.
M waiting and Thanku so much
When video will come..I m checking daily and I have some more issues with my beagle
Thanks,I have a question is beagle good for kids or teen like me age 13,because Im going to have beagle next year
Its okay for kids but dont do the worst things right?
Generally beagles do really well with kids. However you should never leave a toddler with your dog alone.
Ok thanks for help
Thank you so much
Beagles live to eat! My 2 would, if they had the chance, try to eat a 44lb bag of food at once all while making sure the other one did not get more! Also, they will try to eat anything. So food training has been very important.
Mine is good obsessed and I can’t get him to stop marking the refrigerator . Can’t even catch him in the act.
SAKIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII 😍
Thanks for the info! Very useful. My only problem with our beagle is that he barks when he hears someone at the door, just a person passing by or even when a person tries to hold him, only when he's inside our house, cos when outside, he's letting other people to pet him. What seems to be the problem here? Thanks!
He is just protective of his house and your family, and this is normal. By barking he just wants to let you know that there's someone in your house. To stop this behavior, ask you friends and extended family members to come visit your house and teach your pooch to behave correctly.
@@BeagleCare Thank you! 😊
My beagle bites when he does not have his way 😭 he was not mine for the first 10 months. He is getting better... I think
What sometimes really helps is if you stand up, put your hands behind you, and don't acknowledge the dog until they are acting more calmly. Hopefully your beagle continues to improve, good luck!
Hi I have a beagle and same tigger is much better now
Help me after how many months can I take my puppy for a walk
Do you recommend beagle for a regular running and exercise
Yes, beagles are energetic breed. They will be always ready to walk and run with you.
Guys I'm sooooo happy I am getting a beagle yayy
Should I train my beagle she is just 43days old??
Give your beagle one or two days to get comfortable in your house and then you can start with their training. Start by teaching her simple commands like Sit, stay and come.
I have 2 beagle puppies. They are now 6 month-olds. Whenever they see each other, they play like wrestlers. What should I do?
@Sonam Domale they look adorable. They are naughty most of the time but I enjoy caring for them. We have 4 lovely dogs in our house.
It's normal and healthy for puppies (and adult dogs) to wrestle. However, if you think it's getting too rough it's good to have a recall command and a sit command so that you can call them both away from the game and give them something else to do. Use positive reinforcement to train them.
I've been trying to stop my beagle from eating furniture and tearing clothes for a long time.
