      Honda made a manual hybrid called the CR-Z. I heard though they were pretty rubbish. Its kind of an oxymoron though since hybrids are for efficiency and manuals are not efficient.

      It's not your normal CVT. It does kind of feel like one because it is technically continuously variable. But there's no belt and pulleys. Much more reliable.

    In Europe we get the "GR" models, not to be confused with GR. They basically have two tone paint, slightly different bumpers and bit extra power.

      Get them in the UK as well. Sort of makes sense being that they run the Toyota Corolla's in the BTCC with the Gazoo Racing team. The road going GR editions aren't really hot hatchback material and the only true GR Toyota Corolla can be found in America.

    amazing consumption. but for how long? what i read on the internet, after 5 years the consumption worsened from 4l/100km to 8-9l/100km. so battery replacement (3000$).
    terrible build quality (for such an expensive car)
    the cvt is fine at slow speeds, but the idea of going on a trip in a fully loaded car with 4 people on the highway uphill. if anyone has tried this, you know what I'm talking about. Moreover, I don't know how it is with the reliability.I am a believer of the saying "the less electronics the less it sucks". Yes, toyota has a nice history, but electronics break down and repairs cost several thousand dollars. you better buy a Mazda 6 (all engines except diesel). there's really nothing unreliable in this car

    • @timtamothy
      @timtamothy 5 месяцев назад +3

      @@Skyppler3111 that’s also true for non-hybrids. But the claim that it worsens from 4L/100k to 8-9L/100k over only 5 years is definitely not valid. This is with the batteries running all the time, and with battery technology that was 20 years older at the time. Battery management is done by not having full cycles done (unlike consumer electronics) and management of temperature. And needless to say, 4 generations of hybrid and battery technology later, the technology has improved. Even at 20 years, (and more like 500k as many hybrid taxis go further) would be an amazing lifespan.

      I have done a road trip with my Corolla hybrid with us all being 4 full grown men, the car (2022 Toyota Corolla hybrid Hatch 1.8l) I was able to climb hills and cruise comfortable at 110km up hill no problem, the eCVT not to be confused with a CVT doesn’t have a rubber band feel though the engine was a tad noisy at drastic speed changes. Overall love the car and great for road trips, the hybrid battery’s are ultra reliable and last long time and very cheap to maintain.

    I would love to see Toyota do a proper hybrid hot hatchback version of this car. I know they do the full on GR version in America, but that isn't hybrid. The technology is there as they have been racing with that technology at Le Mans for many years now and we have here in the UK, the British Touring Car Championship Toyota Corolla racing cars that have been racing for a few seasons now.

    Hybrids definitely do not have all the advantages of Battery EVs. You still need to pay for petrol, u still need expensive servicing, you still emit exhaust gases, you still have the complexity of an ICE plus electric motor and finally, hybrids built for economy are slow.

    • @PrinceXavier016
      @PrinceXavier016 5 месяцев назад +3

      Price of petrol: $1080 per year assuming $1.80 per little and 15000 km driven
      Expensive servicing: $250 per year.
      The corolla is quite a bit cheaper than any EV so you're going to have to drive quite a bit before catching up assuming that you cover your full electricity consumption with solar panels at your home, which hopefully you didn't install when you bought the car

    • @user-fr5pl1zf5f
      @user-fr5pl1zf5f 5 месяцев назад +3

      @PrinceXavier016 appreciate your response. I come from a family of Toyota owners. 3 Landcruisers, 1 corolla, 1 Echo, 2 Camry, 1 Kluger. So what i tell is unbiased but based on what is important for me.
      I bought an MG4 in Jan 2024 and compared to Corolla. Lets look at the numbers to compare.
      1. Driveaway cost: MG4 $37.7K vs Corolla $35.97 today in NSW. Corolla hatch cheaper by $1.73K
      2. Servicing cost. MG is $290 at 2yr intervals. So 145 pa. Note MG service cost inclide free roadside assist worth approx $70pa. You wrote Corolla is 250 pa. MG cheaper by 155pa
      4. Warranty. MG4 is 7yrs unlimited km. Corolla 5yrs
      5. Fuel cost. MG4 uses electricity. I charge for free using my solar. $0. But worst case if i use my home electricity AGL has an EV rateplan at 8c per kwh which is equivalent to $175 @ 15,000 km travelled. You said Corolla is $1080pa. MG4 Saving of between $1080 pa to $905.
      6. Boot size. MG4 360ltrs, corolla is 217 ltrs!!! Smaller than a Yaris
      7. Acceleration. MG4 7.7secs, corolla 12sec
      8. Crash safety. 5 star tested in 2023. Corolla 5 star but tested by ANCAP in 2018 when 5 star standards were lower/poorer
      Conclusion? For me, the MG4 is objectively better. And in terms of cost, within 1 to 2 yrs, i have recouped the upfront purchase cost difference. Thereafter, i save approx $1.1K pa. And dont forget petrol will only get more expensive

      I mean the Toyota Corolla cross hybrid is faster than a byd atto 3! But is all reality I’m never gonna need an acceleration of a tesla model 3 or MG4 for my day to day commute, the hybrid motor gives enough power to over take at traffic lights or enter a roundabout. And my servicing is $205 per 15000km or 12months. I mean I still pay for petrol usually $58 for a full tank that can travel 1000km. I honestly can see a hybrid having a role in the electrification in Australia.

    • @barbarusbloodshed6347
      @barbarusbloodshed6347 5 месяцев назад +1

      Absolutely.
      I am still not sold on the idea that replacing all the (running, perfectly usable) ICE cars and creating a massive new charging infrastructure is the smartest way to go.
      Think of the life all those cars have left in them. They're already here, already produced.
      Think of the fact that an EV produces more CO2 when being built than an ICE car and therefore doesn't become less CO2 intensive than the ICE car until well into its running time.
      And as far as I know no one has included the CO2 cost of the infrastructure that is needed for the EVs in their overall CO2 cost.
      Then there's the fact that many countries aren't even able to build the charging networks necessary.
      There are calculations here, in Germany where I live, that our grid could not handle the demand if the percentage of EVs keeps rising.
      And we're talking about a first world highly developed country.
      And we're not talking about 100% EVs either.
      As far as I am concerned EVs are a marketing idea created by Tesla / Elon Musk that is as effective as it is malicious.
      (haven't even started on the social issues... EVs being expensive, people with lower income being pushed out of mobility... who are also the people less likely to own a home and have their own driveway and charger, etc.)

    corolla hybrid is the last toyota hybrid I would get imo.The saving on the fuel does not justify the extra money spent considering the gas version is already good on fuel economy. plus it is a small car, space is more important. And lastly, owning toyota hybrid for over 20 years, I can tell you their hybrids are nothing like driving an EV. Acceleration? Handling? Cost of driving? So essentially nothing in your video makes sense.

    • @robertbruce2182
      @robertbruce2182 4 месяца назад

      I think it’s because you drove a 20 year old hybrid. The new corollas are great at handling given it has independent rear suspension, plus I have a hatch myself and the boot space is really usable, I only have a handful of times I need to fold the seats or lower the boot floor. When I commute I can easily average 3.2l/km over 30km. Beats any regular petrol especially in traffic.

      @@robertbruce2182I own three different Lexus/Toyota hybrids over the 23 years, not one. Frankly in terms of driving, they are all the same. Prius and toyota has cheap interior and shitty equipment for the price you paid comparing to others. Volkswagen jetta can get 5L/100km easily, highway driving will be even less. So that 2L gas saving is going to have a very long time to offset your initial extra hybrid system cost, plus jetta has a lot better interior undoubtedly.
      I'm mostly satisfied with my rx450h, because it avoids the two problems corolla have: not saving enough fuel and terrible interior.
      Since you can only afford to drive a cheap vehicle, get gasoline version to make it simple. Low end hybrids won't save you that much anyway, do your math.😂😂😂
      Toyota hybrids are outdated, and the real EVs saves more and much more intelligent and drivable. this video is such a bull. They are nothing alike.

      @@secretwpn it’s not though. If you’re buying a new EV versus a used hybrid or ICE car, the EV will produce a fraction of the emissions of the other two. Manufacturing emissions are ~10-20% of the equation with a car that’s doing say, 150,000km, EV, hybrid or ICE.
