    The wife and I followed this tapas crawl while vacationing in Madrid a few years back. I must say it was one of the best trips we've ever been on. Thank you so much for this video!

    Thanks for making me homesick...although my home i in the US, I lived 5 1/2 years in Spain and miss it every single day.
    Spain was the first place that I had a home of my own, my son was born there and the love of my life as well.
    Not a day goes by that some memory pops into my head and makes me yearn to live there again.....all I can say is, "C'mon lotto!"
    Mi cuerpo estas aqui, pero mi corazon estan en España.
    Thanks for the memories of tapas hopping also.....me gusta cazon en adobo muchisimas!
    P.S.
    I never met a tapa I didn't like.
    ;p

    • @thegastrotraveler
      @thegastrotraveler  5 лет назад +1

      bambang303378 I’m talking about tapas bars. Aka restaurants. I don’t think many places in the world have 24 hour eateries. You should come to Madrid! It’s the best!

    Amazing video Luke! How much do you usually tip for these drinks and tapas? Thanks!

    • @thegastrotraveler
      @thegastrotraveler  7 лет назад

      Thanks man! Means a lot. Tipping either a little or nothing. If you're just paying for a quick beer or wine and a tiny nibble you don't really need to tip. But let's say our bill came to 9.50 euros, we'd leave the 50 cents. It's often maximum 10% for 'dinners', a bit like England, but not a rule. We either leave a few rubles so to speak, or nothing if it's quick.

    Alright, you have to tell me how you accomplished this. My boyfriend and I have tried it like 3 or 4 times so far and have to tap out at 5 stops, either because we're drunk, full, or couldnt manage to get to every stop before they closed. We've successfully stopped at every location, but on different occasions. What's your secret?!
    Also, thank you, these places are great. I found my favorite tortilla Madrid, and we ended up being filmed while eating champiñons for an American TV show.

    Hi luke, I am planing to go to Madrid in August and your video is a great idea to get around Madrid and at the same time experience the Tappas. But I have a few questions for you
    1- How did you came up to these 10 places? Are they close to the best of the best or for location?
    2- I notice on Casa Toni that the person seems like he was closing already? or why did you say that 1 only, or something similar and then he agreed
    3-Approximately how long it took you the tour to the 10 places?
    4-Do you advice to take UBER from Cerveriz Bar to Casa del Abuelo? it seems a long walk.
    5 and last, What time do you recommend to start the tour? We want to make sure we don't get anything already close or avoid crowd since we are going to replicate your tour on Saturday night on August.
    Thank you for your advise!

    • @thegastrotraveler
      @thegastrotraveler  7 лет назад

      Hey! Thanks for the questions!
      1. These are bars I've come to love through my years living here and giving food tours. They're all in the centre.
      2. Casa Toni was basically closing but because I've been a loyal, often tipsy, customer for years they let us in for a cheeky tipple.
      3. We smashed it fairly hard and did it four hours I think... We were going quickish though.
      4. No UBER needed, the original Casa del Abuelo is on Calle Victoria next to Sol!
      5. I can't really remember exactly what time we started, but I remember thinking we should have started a tad earlier. I'd recommend starting at 8/8:30!
      Good luck soldier, prepare your stomachs and livers :)
      Salud!

    • @richardupton3323
      @richardupton3323 7 лет назад +1

      Is there a big difference between a half racion and a tapas.

    • @thegastrotraveler
      @thegastrotraveler  7 лет назад

      Richard Upton Hey Richard! Sometimes it can be yeah. So in Madrid, technically your tapa will be little freebies like olives or crisps. In Seville or Barcelona for example you are essentially paying for the smaller portion. So, for example, a tapa of calamari might be a couple of euros and a couple of rings. The media (1/2) ración might be double that. And a full ración might be a rather large plate double the size of the ración. Enough to share around a couple of people. Hope this helps!

      Juneied Almasri Cañas range from 1-3€ euros depending on the bar and size they give you. Tapas are almost always free and, again depending on the bar, that can usually mean olives, crisps, peanuts and things. Or sometimes plates of potatoes, fried chicken wings etc. Still some bars might not give you anything. It's a big mix here.

    Mc Donalds is in every corner of the world. Their stores upset the natural historic scenery but, what the heck, you can't hold back modernity. Too many of these type of fast-food places will destroy the charm of a city. This is the mistake of the local governments, they should not allow these establishment in their historic areas. Who wants to travel around the world only find a McDonalds or Starbucks on the corner. The whole idea of travel is to escape all this. You feel ripped off and think, Gee I traveled 5600 miles only to see the same fast-food establishments that I have at home. Well, what the hell , I should have just stayed home. In fact, there are cities across the world that I will never return to because they've modernized their historic areas to the point where they are not worth visiting. I saw this starting to happen in Paris and it was heart-rending. What is Macron thinking ? Tourism is already dropping off in this city, why make it worse? And Macron has got to get his city to the point where it's safe. Tourist don't want to stroll the streets next to armed soldiers sporting high-speed sub-machine guns. When I entered a major department store in the heart of Paris, a security guard made me empty my pockets then waved a metal detector over my body before I could enter the damn store. Macron has got to whip the criminal/terrorist element into line or people will forego Paris and visit other cities. I don't want to diss Macron, but I have to tell it like it is.
