    Mortal Online 2 currently uses this in their Medieval Sandbox MMO - the world is a single massive landmass which you can seamlessly travel across by horse, for hours, going from coast to coast... As the server mesh tech handles the zone transitions behind the scenes, the player never sees a loading screen during gameplay.
    It's pretty great and I love that if someone says they are in the city of Kranesh, I can go find them for a fight, trade, raid, etc... Not having to worry about shards, region, server names, etc. It's rough for those who stream the game... As it's very easy to stream snipe and pinpoint a target. For instance, Star Vault's CEO will stream from the game, frequently, to show development updates. If he does so from LIVE server, it doesnt take long for a flashmob of fanatic players and trolls to appear for their moment on the stream.

    If they’re trying to release a game that is going to compete in the MMO space long term they needn’t duck and hide from the competition. Cream rises to the top. If they have a quality product people will come. As a long time MMO player, I personally don’t care about WoW anymore and can already tell Throne and Liberty will be dead inside of 4 months so they’re not competition.

    Okay Jay, you REALLY need to get off this idea in your head about potentially delaying Ashes A2 to avoid clashing with the competition. It's flat out not a factor nor will it happen. there are several reason, but I'll point out the 3 most relevant ones: #1-It's an Alpha and isn't intended to drive any kinds of sales as there will not be anything available to buy. So not having more players than the competition isn't an issue at all. This pairs with #2-Steven isn't about the hype machine. In fact, he's very wary of it at this very early stage. So maximizing it by not clashing with other big gaming events is a non factor on the publicity side of things as well. Then there's #3- None of the other games coming out are going to be much more than a short term blip on the radar. Throne and Liberty is a flop. Some people will play it, of course, but it will get more numbers just due to there not being many good options out there anyway. WoW isn't really a factor to anyone anymore. Oh sure, the dedicated WoW crowd will pop in for a bit until they've blown through the new content then start looking around again, but the game isn't really going to be new. New content, not new game play style, etc. Give it a few months before it settles back down to normal. Ashes A2 is going to be a long process. It can more than handle those people messing about in WoW for a bit then coming to Ashes with their hand out begging for something to do. Think about the fact that we are comparing an ALPHA state of a game to full release games. That's a referendum on the state of the genre today as much as it is a statement about Ashes. Alpha 2 is the patient girlfriend who is telling everyone to go ahead and go have their fun with the current standard games. When you are ready to get with a Real One, she'll be there for you ;)

    What you are describing about spooling up new servers when needed is called Dynamic server meshing which CIG nor any other company has yet to develop for a game but is used everyday in the business world but is not the same as static server meshing which is currently used in every mmo in some form
    The CitCon demo you showed was showing off the "Replication Layer" tech that hands off entities from one server to another in a seamless transition..

    Games need to stop releasing at a better time if they are ready. Especially mmos. If your game is good it wont matter. Now if you need to delay your game than the original date because you feel its not ready then please hold back and publicly have it stated that the release date is changing.

    about layers, when in the new world they said about this technology, everyone was surprised, and then I remembered that we already have a local subserver, this is an influence race, where there is a limit on the number of users, they just need to make a copy of the allocated zone and not just throw people out to the city, this is a local server, and not a copy of the entire map

    So the server meshing they are probably talking about was the ability to have massive numbers of players in a zone and part of that was working with specific features of unreal engine 5 that works differently from the way many of the engines in the past worked. Allowing more players to be in a particular zone or area because it's not massively multi if you only can have like 100 people in a particular zone. None of the current games or mmorpg's have really had an unlimited zone without some form of limitations.

      We don't know their end game objective is but mmo games use some form of server meshing Lineage 2 used it in 2004, zones would be divided up to separate servers and when you crossed a river or such it would transfer you to the next server in the cluster but all players were assigned to a home server such as Hindemith which I played on.
      This was needed for castle sieges as you would crash the main server if tried to put everyone in a single zone.

      Server meshing is nothing new MMO's have used this tech well for over 20 years now, CIG did not invent the tech that is why they hired the ESO lead to build their infrastructure. What CIG is doing different is that they are using a replication layer to track entities across servers and then hands the authority off to the next server as shown at CitCon which is impressive and a massive improvement. The real test for CIG will be Dynamic server meshing if they can pull that off it will be a game changer in the gaming industry otherwise CIG will have to use instancing for their game because server costs would bankrupt them as they already spend $8,500,000 per year on AMZ Web Services and that is with just 80k players daily.

    This game, unfortunally, will die before full release. At least its hype. It took 10 years ( more or less ) and it seems that still needs a lot of time ahead..
    So many bad signs about this mmorpg for now
    I think riot or another company will bring that ,, huge '' mmorpg to the table
    Remember something. Many times, some of the best games out there came and were released suddenlly without putting too much effort in marketing BS

  • @22Epic
    @22Epic 2 месяца назад +1

    It's nothing new and it sucks for a MMO. With server meshing you lose the sense of community, what made the golden era of MMOs was the fact that you knew the guilds and players of the server. With only one server, the random dude you meet on the road, you'll never see him again, and at this point it could be a bot it would be the same thing lol... fun times ahead... 😂

    • @philwaugh9095
      @philwaugh9095 2 месяца назад

      The fact that's it's proprietary and they are calling it an ACE should tell you that it is not the same as what you are used to as nothing new. No game so far has delivered a good server meshing tech that's worth a damn. Star Citizen's isn't it either. So we'll see soon enough. Side note - you know what's worse for an MMO? Having queue times multiple days long at launch. If even 10% of the accounts out there log in, that alone tops a million.
