In the booklet of The Open Door, Amy stated that her long-time friend and husband, Josh Hartzler, was the main inspiration for the song. In the booklet Amy wrote, "Josh, you are my muse. Nothing inspires me the way you do. Thank you for all my missing pieces. Thank you for your strength and love. Thank you for letting me see myself through your eyes, because only then could I know that I am good enough for you."

I did not know that story. Makes sense. Not so many of the band's songs are easy to interpretate in terms of meaning. Incredible that has been so many years since 2006 release of ''The Open Door''. And also incredible how Evanescense' band has change and how everything has changed. In a way, the song kind of hypnothizes when you listen and makes you think.

This song is about her Husband now if she's "Good Enough" for him. The MV, the visualization i think is about her feelings for him. The passion, the fire, the rain, the peacefulness she felt for him. This song is special. You appreciate this song more when you listen to it while it's raining.

I think it's ultimately about insecurity and not believing that you're worthy of someone's love. I also think this is one of the most underrated songs she's ever written and performed, it doesn't get as much attention as it deserves. It's one of the most beautiful pieces she's ever played and written.

The visual symbolism in the music video is also breath taking. It’s visually stunning. The smiling cherub, the melting glasses/record, the set going up in flames, and then the rain falling down, and the vines growing around the floor boards. My favorite moment is when she sings “And I’m still waiting for the rain to fall; pouring life down on me” just seeing the piano on fire and seeing the rain washing over her mixed with the escalation of notes. Just so beautiful and full of emotion.

The song is definitely about her husband as stated. She speaks to how she has never felt good enough and doesn’t deserve the love from him and for things to be this good. The video, I believe, is representing the fire inside of her, the passion and love that’s burning. The rain, I think is a reference as she states, she’s waiting for the rain to fall, pouring life down on her, meaning something bad to happen an ruin (put out/wash away) this “good” feeling/love she has and being good enough. Her vocals in this are great! One of my favorite songs of hers and under appreciated for its meaning.

Awesome song, great reaction. This song has a melancholy tone but is actually meant to convey Amy's acceptance of true love from the man that could see through her eyes. Amy is almost in disbelieve that she is worthy of such love, but has resolved to let it unfold. Beautiful.

Amy Lee is beautiful, talented, and a tremendous song writer. Her songs of tragic love reaches into your soul, and anyone whose experienced a lost love feels it ALL OVER AGAIN. the concept of the video everything that on fire can be rebuild so to start over is to put the fire out so things can grow that how the the roots started to grow to a beautiful flower basicly what she is feeling , like after the rain there is sunshine and u will see a beautiful rainbow after the storm type a thing

Lots of other great descriptions of the song origins. I love that it feels like an internal dialogue where there's both a question and a statement: "am I good enough?" and "I am good enough". The video is just beautiful. Great reaction, A&B!

    • @brentliebrecht7866

Fear, doubt. That is what I got. That though there is chaos all sound and maybe she should worry. Maybe she should go. Feelings of inadequacy, mixed by calm and a feeling that I feel good enough here to stay despite circumstances AND she feels good enough to accept the love offered to her. That she feels safe even when her own brain is sending panic signals. As someone who has trouble believing that things really can be this good and even if you think something has to go wrong. Something needs to be painful, no. No it does not. So I feel good enough and out of pain, and trauma she is washed clean of the past in the still and the joy right here, right now, and new life grows from all that went before. Yeah no doubt Amy is highly intelligent and the song operates on several levels at the same time. Ambivalance is feeling two contradictory emotions at the same time. We get that here in the end she decides to stay. She chooses love over fear/paranoia. The I've been hurt everytime I give my heart and my trust. You expect it to happen. She causes the fire. The chaos, but his love offers her protection and calm and despite her throwing this flame, his love puts out the fire of fear and she is in a happy safe place and embraces life and hope. Loved it!

  • @agamemnongames886
    @agamemnongames886 Год назад +1

I think that the song is dealing with the ID or the part of the unconscious mind of the woman in the story. She is giving her heart [feelings or raw passion] to another person. The ID deals with raw passion and feelings. The ID relies on the Ego, Superego, and Reality to govern and balance out behavior. This is the compassionate side of the woman in the story or the things she has control over. However, raw passion or the ID has no master or control. So when she gives her heart to another person or the other person in the story, she is telling them 'to take care of what I give to you because I cannot control my feelings.'
That is why the room is on fire.
On a deep level, I think the song is dealing with faith and trust. Faith deals with the absence of knowledge. She does not really know what the other person feels or knows. This is the anxiety she is feeling.
The ID often pursues unrealistic dreams or wants. The rain is the reality of life that is going to come along and crush her dream, which she seeks to avoid.
I think 'good enough' is dealing with value or the concept of value. Logics deals with statements of facts. Opinions deal with statements of values. In Astrology, and Tarot Cards, the element of water has three dimensions [past, present, future] and that creates weight or value. However, that weight is not realized until it matures into the element of Earth or the physical reality. So the value she is placing on herself is still a theoretical thing. All that she has is an opinion. On her deep level, she does not believe she is allowed to hold onto anything of great value. She has probably had experience with death and loss.
    Thank you.

@@1of9everytime38 I can't speak for other Nightwish fans, but as someone who has been following Nightwish for 20 years, there are no similarities between Floor and Amy, even more so with Tarja and Amy. Nor are there similarities between Floor and Tarja for that matter. I appreciate Amy's vocals and I liked Evanescences older music. It's just people are hearing a piano and rock and metal music and putting the two together without thinking about it properly.

It is silly. The only thing Amy and Floor have in common is they are both women. And I say looks wise Amy beats Floor and it's not even close. Now we can debate that because they are both women. You can compare that. After that nothing they do musically is the same. Completely two different styles of music. It's like comparing apples to oranges. You can't they aren't the same thing. Just like Floor and Amy. Musically you can't compare them. It's apples and oranges.
