    People have to quit comparing him to The Rev. We all know Jimmy is and always will be the goat. We should appreciate how great Brooks is and how much better the drumming is on The Stage album vs. Ilejay's Hail to the King drumming. I am so happy Brooks is with A7X.

      @evoxghiretti Год назад +5

      I never thought there was anything inherently wrong with Hail to the King's drumming. It's very obviously not Jimmy who did it because theres none of those ridiculous styles in a song (Latin in Almost Easy for instance) but I'm pretty sure that was the point of the album. To make a nice simple fun album. There's nothing wrong with it, but it doesn't stand out. It doesn't have a song like Nightmare with a crazy opening, or no crazy solo like in Beast and the Harlot. I just think it was a solid drumming effort.

    • @Kyrannasaur
      @Kyrannasaur Год назад +4

      His drumming in Hail to the king is exactly what the record called for. Let’s not forget, it was a heavy metal record tipping caps to the old school guys and not a prog record! But I see what you’re saying

    • @evoxghiretti
      @evoxghiretti Год назад

      @@Kyrannasaur Yes, but there's not even a little bit of fun in it. It's very precise and very minimal in terms of fills. I'm thinking the beginning of Nightmare, when the drums pushes the song forward. It's mysterious and even a little scary. With pretty much every song from HTTK I hear it being fun to play, but to listen to it's uninspiring. I personally can't think of much unique drumming except maybe Shepard of Fire. Not a bad drumming, just not anything outside the box. Which may be what they were going for, but that doesn't mean much. None of them sound like The Stage, Paradigm, Nightmare, or Second Heartbeat.

    "It's crazy that you don't get to call that guy anymore"
    This sentence probably sounds really dumb to anyone who has never lost anyone, like it's a poorly articulated half-thought, but that's a genuinely captured thought and feeling. You think when you lose someone, it'll be this long and protracted grief that eventually goes away, but it's not always like that. You might feel strangely fine for a bit, sooner than you thought. But then you'll hit up this amazing restaurant and think "holy shit I need to tell X about this" and then... you remember X is dead. And you can't quite grasp it most of the time, but for a moment you do, with the phone in your hand and their contact page open on your phone. It's still there. But you won't get an answer. And you're a grown ass man who's trying not to cause a scene or dragging down the mood while everyone around him is having a good time.
    For me, X was my mum who passed while I was in my 20s - she was young, and just had shit luck and an encounter with cancer. For some of you, it might also be a parent, or a best friend, a sibling... a cat.
