Nah, I'd say BM's just as bad, if not worse than Judge. She does the exact same thing, only without the genetic enhancements, and with WAY more kids. The only difference between them is that Judge's tech allows him to focus on quality over quantity when making his offspring, while BM has to go for quantity, and hope that some of them are high quality.

Knowing Sanji's full backstory makes his relationship with Ziff even more special and tragic that even after his escape he still struggled a lot but Ziff is most likely the best thing ever happened to Sanji like truly he saved him but i genuinely think Sanji is one of the most tragic characters in one piece and it’s not just because of the way he was treated, it’s because what it did to his mentality like when you go back to all his scenes, he’s always the first one to sacrifice himself for the sake of others “especially the weakest ones” but what broke my heart was when i rewatched Thriller Park a while back, Sanji truly believed that he was expendable and he was willing to sacrifice himself and genuinely felt like Zoro is more important and thought he was unworthy and him saying “you need to find another cook” was so sad because he thinks he’s replaceable, like it might not look like a lot at first but when you go back and rewatch his scenes with knowing how he views himself, it genuinely breaks my heart. The sad thing that despite having friends who sees his worth, he doesn’t see it and he still thinks he’s expendable and unworthy of love and saving, people often say this arc is not good but i think Oda did a great job with writing trauma and how it genuinely breaks someone mentality and how it shapes them. It’s not just Sanji, like this whole arc is filled with children traumatized and it’s sad, and yes i still view the siblings as victims as well “it doesn’t mean i love them or think what they did is right but they’re still victims” imo the real villains and bad people in this arc are Judge and BM because their children were abused in one way or another.

38:05 Remember how angry Sanji was when Duval took his mask off and talked about how hard life was for him because people were looking for him? Plus just before Duval took the mask off (and at some other times) when Sanji looked worried and started feeling around his head - I think it's all been but confirmed that sometimes he has to phsycially reassure himself that that mask isn't on his head anymore.
In regards to how Sanji and Zorro compare physically, I think the Davy Back Fight showed that pretty well. When Zoro and Sanji argue before the ball game, they trade blows twice, once before Zoro has to give up his swords and once after. It does look like he struggles a lot more once he's unarmed. I'd say that in terms of raw physical strength they're about equal, but Sanji is better in hand-to-hand combat, so he has advantage in an unarmed fight. As a side note, I love that Oda didn't make Sanji's siblings & father more powerful than him. The only times they get a shot at him, it's always through cheap tricks and threats, whereas Sanji proves he can easily mop the floor with them, seeing how he beat up Yonji and kicked Niji in the face without him being able to dodge.
I get being suspect of Sanji’s strength, but it’s hard to really justify it when both Luffy and Zoro are fucking mythically strong even without their Fruit and swords. Like, Garp is top tier and has been running around the seas just punching shit as a normal dude

I genuinely think Sanji’s backstory is one of the most traumatic things in OP. Like, a lot of other characters’ backstories like Law and Robin are tragic and made me cry, but at the very least, they had someone who cared about them. Law had his family and then Cora-san, and Robin had her mom and the team of archaeologists. Sanji essentially doesn’t have a family anymore, especially after what they did to him. He does have Zeff now, but it’s like he has no past family or anything aside from that.

Sanji’s brothers are such cowards. Sanji should’ve attempted to call them out on their unwillingness to fight fairly. Something like, “You’ll only fight me like this because you know you can never beat me otherwise.” They may be evil, but they can still be provoked.
They view human emotions as a weakness not just physicality, which is why they use threats to control Sanji. They know now they can’t beat Sanji fairly which is why they do it.
The point is that they're kinda not cowards, especially when you see that they were about to be executed, and they were laughing! they don't really feel much I think.
It is actually a nice parallel that Luffy struggling fighting Cracker and Sanji's situation, showing Sanji's past along side Luffy's struggle to save him as a dear friend.

Now that you've watched this flashback, I can finally explain one of my favourite character traits of Sanji's that makes a lot of sense when you think about it, and that's him being the most understanding out of the whole crew towards Usopp during Enies Lobby. Because think about it, who else in the crew would be able to understand the self confidence issues that come with being the only weakling among a group of powerful people to the degree Sanji did for Usopp?
Sanji's siblings are soooo much stronger than him as a child, and yet he SURVIVES their constant beatings. Most other children would die but he always bounces back. He's tough.

Not baby Sanji pleading that he's sorry for being born weak. His self-worth really was thoroughly destroyed by his family, to the point he's constantly sacrificing himself throughout the story. It also makes his angry reaction on Punk Hazard to Nami saying "children crying for help deserve to be helped" hurt all the more. Also, also the fact that he sometimes clutches his face in stressful situations like during the Sabody breakup, almost as if he's checking to see he's not wearing anything to ground himself. Oda really decided to come back and redo Sanji's backstory so that everyone had a loved one die.

One thing to understand about the Vinsmokes is that they see themselves as assassins, not warriors. To them Sanji being a better warrior means absolutely nothing if they are the ones standing in the end, no matter the means used. They dont have morals.
803 is both cathartic and heartbreaking, because it confirms that Sanji is literally built different, which is why he's so strong, and you understand that compared to his brothers, he was actually a *failure.* And considering how strong Sanji is, his brothers are monsters.

When the Vinsmoke family's power of creating genetically altered people was revealed in the manga, there was an uproar in the community. A lot of people thought, like Alicia, that his strength and power would be explained as coming from the altered DNA the Germa put on him, and they thought this ruined the character: his strength was no longer his, like Zoro, he just got a free power boost from his family. Then this chapter came out, and this all was forgotten. The Vinsmoke family _tried_ to give Sanji a different DNA that included a lot of superhuman powers. They failed. No matter how hard you think it is to believe, in the world of One Piece, a completely normal run of the mill human with 0 powers and 0 abilities _can_ indeed make their leg catch fire. Same way a completely normal human like Zoro can make 2 clones of himself appear behind him to create his Asura 9 sword style attacks: this is all just early manifestations of their Haki. Even Luffy figures out the fire thing, I don't think anyone believes the Gum-Gum powers include producing fire. Luffy learned to use his Haki to manifest as fire which he used to create his Red Hawk attacks in memory of Ace. Sanji's Diable Jambe is literally just the same thing, only he figured it out earlier than Luffy (to give Luffy some credit, it's likely the reason Zoro and Sanji started manifesting Armament powers before him was because unlike him, they didn't have other powers to focus on. While Sanji and Zoro were getting their first steps into the world of Haki, Luffy was still experimenting with his fruit and creating Gears 2 and 3). None of the changes intended by Germa worked on Sanji. He doesn't have a metal exoskeleton like his siblings do, he can't produce substances like fire or electricity like they can, he doesn't have Captain America level strength from birth like they do. Sanji's kicks kill motherfuckers because he trained them for over a decade. He can create fire because he honed his willpower and resolve to the point his Haki _literally_ burns, not because his DNA was changed to do that. He could probably fold Captain America in half, not because he was born with strength but because he worked for it, fighting against pirates and bandits almost every day on Baratie and being trained by Zeff.
aaah yes the prince kid Sanji with his iron mask, just like the half historic half legend french prince who was emprisonned to keep his existance secret almost non-existant and no one knew who he truly was because he wore an iron mask and that's why we called him "l'Homme au Masque de Fer". After the timeskip, it's very much clear Sanji's the fastest Straw Hat. Oda did say that in a 100m race that Brook would win, but that was established pre-timeskip. Sanji could literally fly, no doubt he's the fastest now
Producing fire at will is weirdly enough something ordinary people in One Piece can do. Pearl can do it, Luffy can do it, Kinemon can cut through fire and produce it. Producing fire is not indicative of genetic modification. Moreover, all the siblings elemental abilities are due to their suits.
Pearl might be able to do to some contraptions that he had and kinemon can probably do it because of the technique. Sanji can catch his own body on fire. So it’s possible that’s part of his genetics. But yeah characters that can use fire for attacks regularly is nothing we haven’t seen before.
It took me until now to understand what "cracker" means for her, like, I was genuinely confused to why she was uncomfortable and all of that when they say "Cracker-sama", it's still strange...but as least I understand why she reacts the way she does when the name is spoken.
what if sanji different because he is special, his power just not awakening/unlocked yet, it will be cool when his super human power unlocked and became the most succes experiment than the siblings.
Sanji is a more of a generalist among specialists, Other Specialists will out class him in their specific areas, but his true advantage is that he no real weak spot to target. (Aside of externally outside of his control. Like threatening Zeff and the Cooking Lady.). Zoro and Luffy are stronger, Nami and Usopp are more clever, Robin and Chopper are smarter, Brook is faster, and Franky is extremely Versatile. But Sanji has the best balance of the team.

Knowing Sanji's full backstory makes his relationship with Ziff even more special and tragic that even after his escape he still struggled a lot but Ziff is most likely the best thing ever happened to Sanji like truly he saved him but i genuinely think Sanji is one of the most tragic characters in one piece and it’s not just because of the way he was treated, it’s because what it did to his mentality like when you go back to all his scenes, he’s always the first one to sacrifice himself for the sake of others “especially the weakest ones” but what broke my heart was when i rewatched Thriller Park a while back, Sanji truly believed that he was expendable and he was willing to sacrifice himself and genuinely felt like Zoro is more important and thought he was unworthy and him saying “you need to find another cook” was so sad because he thinks he’s replaceable, like it might not look like a lot at first but when you go back and rewatch his scenes with knowing how he views himself, it genuinely breaks my heart.
The sad thing that despite having friends who sees his worth, he doesn’t see it and he still thinks he’s expendable and unworthy of love and saving, people often say this arc is not good but i think Oda did a great job with writing trauma and how it genuinely breaks someone mentality and how it shapes them. It’s not just Sanji, like this whole arc is filled with children traumatized and it’s sad, and yes i still view the siblings as victims as well “it doesn’t mean i love them or think what they did is right but they’re still victims” imo the real villains and bad people in this arc are Judge and BM because their children were abused in one way or another.

In regards to how Sanji and Zorro compare physically, I think the Davy Back Fight showed that pretty well. When Zoro and Sanji argue before the ball game, they trade blows twice, once before Zoro has to give up his swords and once after. It does look like he struggles a lot more once he's unarmed. I'd say that in terms of raw physical strength they're about equal, but Sanji is better in hand-to-hand combat, so he has advantage in an unarmed fight.
As a side note, I love that Oda didn't make Sanji's siblings & father more powerful than him. The only times they get a shot at him, it's always through cheap tricks and threats, whereas Sanji proves he can easily mop the floor with them, seeing how he beat up Yonji and kicked Niji in the face without him being able to dodge.

I genuinely think Sanji’s backstory is one of the most traumatic things in OP.
Like, a lot of other characters’ backstories like Law and Robin are tragic and made me cry, but at the very least, they had someone who cared about them. Law had his family and then Cora-san, and Robin had her mom and the team of archaeologists.
Sanji essentially doesn’t have a family anymore, especially after what they did to him. He does have Zeff now, but it’s like he has no past family or anything aside from that.
Sanji had his mom and Reiju, they are the reason he simps for women.

Sanji’s brothers are such cowards. Sanji should’ve attempted to call them out on their unwillingness to fight fairly. Something like, “You’ll only fight me like this because you know you can never beat me otherwise.” They may be evil, but they can still be provoked.
To them, the fact that their threats actually work on him, means Sanji is the weak one.
They view human emotions as a weakness not just physicality, which is why they use threats to control Sanji. They know now they can’t beat Sanji fairly which is why they do it.
If I was Sanji I wouldn't risk that. What if they decided to still kill Zeff as revenge? I don't think they have an ounce of honor in them.

Now that you've watched this flashback, I can finally explain one of my favourite character traits of Sanji's that makes a lot of sense when you think about it, and that's him being the most understanding out of the whole crew towards Usopp during Enies Lobby.
Because think about it, who else in the crew would be able to understand the self confidence issues that come with being the only weakling among a group of powerful people to the degree Sanji did for Usopp?
Sanji's siblings are soooo much stronger than him as a child, and yet he SURVIVES their constant beatings. Most other children would die but he always bounces back. He's tough.

Not baby Sanji pleading that he's sorry for being born weak. His self-worth really was thoroughly destroyed by his family, to the point he's constantly sacrificing himself throughout the story.

When the Vinsmoke family's power of creating genetically altered people was revealed in the manga, there was an uproar in the community. A lot of people thought, like Alicia, that his strength and power would be explained as coming from the altered DNA the Germa put on him, and they thought this ruined the character: his strength was no longer his, like Zoro, he just got a free power boost from his family.
Then this chapter came out, and this all was forgotten. The Vinsmoke family _tried_ to give Sanji a different DNA that included a lot of superhuman powers. They failed. No matter how hard you think it is to believe, in the world of One Piece, a completely normal run of the mill human with 0 powers and 0 abilities _can_ indeed make their leg catch fire. Same way a completely normal human like Zoro can make 2 clones of himself appear behind him to create his Asura 9 sword style attacks: this is all just early manifestations of their Haki.
Even Luffy figures out the fire thing, I don't think anyone believes the Gum-Gum powers include producing fire. Luffy learned to use his Haki to manifest as fire which he used to create his Red Hawk attacks in memory of Ace. Sanji's Diable Jambe is literally just the same thing, only he figured it out earlier than Luffy (to give Luffy some credit, it's likely the reason Zoro and Sanji started manifesting Armament powers before him was because unlike him, they didn't have other powers to focus on. While Sanji and Zoro were getting their first steps into the world of Haki, Luffy was still experimenting with his fruit and creating Gears 2 and 3).
None of the changes intended by Germa worked on Sanji. He doesn't have a metal exoskeleton like his siblings do, he can't produce substances like fire or electricity like they can, he doesn't have Captain America level strength from birth like they do. Sanji's kicks kill motherfuckers because he trained them for over a decade. He can create fire because he honed his willpower and resolve to the point his Haki _literally_ burns, not because his DNA was changed to do that. He could probably fold Captain America in half, not because he was born with strength but because he worked for it, fighting against pirates and bandits almost every day on Baratie and being trained by Zeff.

After the timeskip, it's very much clear Sanji's the fastest Straw Hat. Oda did say that in a 100m race that Brook would win, but that was established pre-timeskip. Sanji could literally fly, no doubt he's the fastest now
Producing fire at will is weirdly enough something ordinary people in One Piece can do. Pearl can do it, Luffy can do it, Kinemon can cut through fire and produce it. Producing fire is not indicative of genetic modification. Moreover, all the siblings elemental abilities are due to their suits.
Pearl might be able to do to some contraptions that he had and kinemon can probably do it because of the technique. Sanji can catch his own body on fire. So it’s possible that’s part of his genetics. But yeah characters that can use fire for attacks regularly is nothing we haven’t seen before.

Sanji is a more of a generalist among specialists, Other Specialists will out class him in their specific areas, but his true advantage is that he no real weak spot to target. (Aside of externally outside of his control. Like threatening Zeff and the Cooking Lady.). Zoro and Luffy are stronger, Nami and Usopp are more clever, Robin and Chopper are smarter, Brook is faster, and Franky is extremely Versatile.
