Harry is the greatest story teller ever!
One of the greatest songs ever
لايوجد أحد في هذا العالم يجيد كتابة وغناء القصص افضل من هاري شابن هو بجعلك تعيش القصة كانها فلم في عقلك ..أنه العبقري الاروع
He was a great storyteller. The best, imho.
What a super song, a true story song in so many ways. Harry is the ultimate storyteller, and he did this one wonderfully. Thanks so much carolinasbeauty for this simply brilliant request, and thanks Don for your insightful reaction!
Thank you, Terry. If you haven't heard some of the ones I listed in my comment, give them a listen when you have some free time. He was a master story teller and I'm sad that we lost him so young.
Phyllis somehow I knew that was you hat requested this my first thought when I seen the artist I thought this sounds like something you would request. Thanks I love Harry Chapin love the lyrics . Loneliness can take us many places . Thank you for requesting this. Don thanks for the rest reaction as always .
I always try to guess who made the request, it is very difficult since I don't know most of the subscrber, a little easier with gift requests, but I also was pretty sure of who this one was from.---UTRCM
Thanks #SIS! Yeah, I guess if you see something unusual requested on the channel, it's me🙂
@@mikebarnett9012 Hi Mike, I love lyrics, what can I say? #FIM
Don, I'm speechless (almost). I didn't think you'd react to this one. It's long and the history behind it for me is a story, too. Let's just say I was swapping songs with a new (male friend?) and he pulled this one out and asked me to listen to it. It hit my heart like a bullet and I cried. After leaving the work force due to disability, loneliness became my existence, even in a crowded room. Others by Harry that you'll get lost in is "Corey's Coming" "Mr. Tanner" (gut ripper), "The Mayor of Candor Lied", just to name a few. I liked the music they released on the radio, but they don't hold a candle to the album tracts. Thank you all my sub friends for commenting and Don, for a sensitive reaction. I knew you liked Harry - you mentioned it on one of your reactions. KInda wish you'd rated it, but the content is a touchy subject - one of the reasons I love Harry's songs. He puts his heart and some of his demons into his songs.
@carolinasbeauty I’m glad you enjoyed the reaction, and thanks for the backstory on its meaning to you. I’ve had songs hit me like that too, and they are priceless. Have a wonderful weekend, and thank you for the request!!
@carolinasbeauty Thank You so much for recommending this one. I believe after 60 years of enjoying all types of music, I always come back to Harry and his brilliant songwriting. I have seen him live five times in the 70's here in CT and he always makes you believe he is singing to you. All your suggestions are perfect. I first heard The Mayor of Candor lied live at a show and the entire audience Gasped at the end. I knew then I was in the presence of a genius songwriter. Thank you Carolinasbeauty. PS: Dogtown is quite the dark tale also. Mark
Dang! Another one that I missed while I was deciding whether or not it would be a good idea to stay alive through a bout of food poisoning. Love Harry. love this song. Harry always makes me laugh or cry or sit there trying to figure out which I want to do and wondering why I always feel so damn connected to the world after listening to Harry.
Harry is my all-time favorite. Seen him live five times and play him often. The master of lyrics.
Harry has been my hero for over 50 years. He was a great man. He was famous for his story songs. My favorite is Corey’s Coming, but I love every song he wrote. You should react to Corey’s Coming. Fans have been discussing Corey for decades. Was she real? What does the ending mean? There are several opinions. I’d love to hear yours!
Hi terrik8577 - Corey's Coming was my first love of Harry's. That whole album was fantastic. I'll see if I can work out requesting it. The lyrics do have you puzzled, but I believe the man knew Corey and she was real.
Carolinasbeauty: I believe Cory is real, also. How could she not be? I feel her presence whenever I listen to Harry. I spent my 18th birthday at The Cellar Door in Georgetown, DC, with my feet on the stage listening to him. He signed his beer bottle for me. I remember when he died, Congress just about shut down with the congressmen and senators taking the floor to honor Harry. My husband and I saw him about 25 times. I won a contest at WASH-FM, and they sent a taxi to pick us up, and we had dinner with Harry and the band at Merriweather Post Pavilion in Maryland. The only other singers that came close to my affection for Harry were John Prine and Jim Croce.
@@terrik8577 Wow, how lucky were you? What an awesome experience for you! I'm so happy that you have that memory to keep forever. I never had the opportunity to see him live, but from what I've watched on YT, he was just as good, if not better, in concert than on his studio recordings! Thank you for sharing your experience. Phyllis, aka carolinasbeauty.
@@terrik8577 25 Times. You are so lucky Only 7 for me. Of course, you took a taxi. "Thats how you got this far" Dinner with Harry. I would be "stammering like a schoolboy."
If you want an amazing Harry Chapin psychological study, try his song “Sniper.” You have never heard anything like it. Trust me.
I would LOVE to see him review it (especially the live version)
Or 'Bummer' is like that too.
Good morning Don and fellow subs., Well CB you did it again. You veered off the path in the most wonderful way. While I always liked the Harry Chapin songs that I heard on the radio I have never deep dived into Harry, so this was a new one for me. It obviously was a different story but very much had a 'Taxi' vibe to it. Anyway thanks Phyllis for a tremendous request and Don for an equally tremendous reaction.----#UTRCM #FIM
Mike my friend it is so good to see you again.
I am doing better and sincerely hope that you and yours are well!
Just a quick question if I may….
What does #FIM stand for?
Stay well my friend.
@Cliffordbarnes so good to hear from you. I sent you a message a couple of days ago on the Waylon Jennings thread. I am doing o.k., some days better than others., Just getting old I guess. #FIM is kind of Carolinasbeauty's hashtag and means Friends in Music. Anyway so great hearing from you, hopefully you will feel like chiming in more often.---#UTRCM #FIM
One of Chapin's rare happy endings. (Staying in your lane isn't the worst thing you can do, actually. If you know how to appreciate it. I think the little man will be happier with the waitress than with that beautiful bed-jumping nervous wreck.)
On another note: as for non-country country music, I'd LOVE to see you react to Peter Blegvad's "Gold". Quite a bit of psychology there, as well.
Live version is superior, from the Greatest Stories album. I think you would have been ok. But I get it. That said, Harry was great. Really sorry the man has been gone from us for so long.
I think its a downward spiral. When the woman says "shhh... i know just how you feel", it indicates that she looks at someone she can't have the same way the little man looks at her. The waitress, in turn, looks at the little man the way he looks at the lady.
