Deadliest Journeys - China : The dizzy valley of the forgotten

- The Duong valley road is the only means of access between China, Burma and Tibet. A road that is paved over the first thirty kilometres, but which quickly turns into an extremely perilous track. It’s considered the most dangerous road in China. Landslides, difficult passages where it’s impossible for vehicles to pass, mud, tunnels that are too narrow, there’s no respite for drivers. The road demands the highest concentration. The cliffs are vertiginous. The least turn of the wheel can be fatal. And when the threat isn’t coming from below, it may come from the rock walls. On this track, you cannot commit any errors. We take the road aboard an overloaded collective taxi. At the wheel is Tcheng. He’s been driving this road once a week for six years. In the taxi, we find Fong who has to get back to his remote village in the mountains. Together, they will take more than seven hours to cover less than a hundred kilometres. Troubles begin right from the start of the journey. The tunnel is too narrow. The passengers have to get out of the vehicle to widen the walls at the risk of bringing it all down. During this adventure we meet woodcutters, children who sell coal, Tibetan monks and Chinese adventurers seeking their fortunes This road may be the one that leads to El Dorado, the El Dorado of the lead and tin mines. -

With just the right amount of sympathy and respect, the commentary is perhaps the best I have heard. Thank you.
Watching from Kenya. Thank GOd we really blessed despite the minimal challenges we face! and do I say, these people are adorable
Can't get enough of this narrator, love him
who is this narrator?
@@mandlabooys1200
Yes. Who is narrator?
Yea he my favorite commentary guy. Doing a good job man. I like the calmness of people expressed, that diffrent here, and the British accent in pronunciation but not over done as the focus return to the speaker not the subject. And I love how deep the plot is he working with 3-4 maybe 5 people lives along the route a in-depth into their lives hardships, hopes, dreams. Like the kid that working hard , but learning and talks like a man already .
This is real life.
You can not help but love the good attitude of these people. So desperately poor, yet so positive about life. ...
I forgot to say - the Chinese are superb miners. Many of the underground mines in the gold rush country of California were dug by Chinese miners.
They're poor but they're not african famine poor. They pretty much have the basics sorted out (food, education, roof over their head) and now what they want is higher quality of life
This documentary is full of interesting stories. I like that you just see the people and the places.
I can see i take much for granted when i see there children with smiles. Much respect for what they do , how they live with all the dangers. Wow from the uk !!!
Respect to thatgirl in canada !!! X2 I lived homeless with a winter start for a year and it nothing on them. It's hard !
Nice
Another Great Documentary
Thank you for Sharing 😀
I Can't get enough of it - The Narrator made me laugh 😀 no pig inside my taxi 😀😀😀😀
I have no right to complain what I have today . . . . these people are so adorable despite of their struggle in life.
Indeed....but that's the only way to get through these harsh conditions...it's no use to let this misery get you down.
So true, these people are a true inspiration
these people do what they have to do. I will be risking life in their place too.
It's a hard virtue to learn to be content in life , Id like to try and live like they are for 90 days to see if I could cut it .
Aside from the often comedic narration, I thoroughly enjoyed this film. I shall never complain about the state of the UK's roads again.
I would die, anxiety would kill me! Hats off to those that go on this road.
MBS Brown I strongly agree to you
Wow ppl live such hard lives. I’m thankful everyday that I was born in America. God bless these ppl
this video was made fucking 10 years ago . here is source www.imdb.com/title/tt2676760/
, 10 years maybe means nothing to you guys ,,,, but to China , Even one year means a lot . let me put in this way , It is easy for China to make another 3 Africas in term of GDP within fucking 10 yeas ,
In term of infrastructure. , compared with China ,USA is a inferior place , ,China;s infrastructure is the best .
Yet they are happier than most Americans.
what an exciting interested video. thanks
Thank you for this documentary.
Very interesting documentary. Thank you!
Did this track on rollerskates back in 2008 and it was marvelous!!!!!!
A series of the best documentaries I have ever come across on the internet. Great keep it up.
Great video! Keep the good work; I will be following you; thank you, from Las Vegas, Nv
Beautiful smiles from the children and from their Uncle as well..
Documentales muy intensos y dramáticos de las carreteras del mundo, muy interesante..
Love the truck with the Kubota tiller engine. Awesome mod.
God bless these hard working people.
This is a good video. I think it was filmed around 2008. It would be great if another video can be made at the same place now. The fastest change of China happens in the, past ten years.
My very words from yesterday how can it be a posted months ago?
My own words from yesterday how did it get posted months ago before current Iran crisis started ?
near 95-2000probably.i’m a chinese,it just like my childhood
The narrator you make this documentary irresistible
China people learned the hard way. So hardworking!
Great Documentary!!!!!!!!!!
The land and mountains are beautiful. There are still millions and millions of acres of wilderness despite the high populations of China's cities
sunnydayzie 1 Some researchers argue that it’s actually *because* of the population density of the cities. Apparently, between higher agriculture efficiency and more urban density, humanity as a whole is giving land back to the wilderness.
yes
Nice documentary. I went there 3 years ago, and everything had changed, roads were paved with high quality concrete and tar, average speed was over 60Km/h. So crazy to drive fast along the cliffs, River was roaring 200 meters below
ok. ccp shill.
It breaks my heart to see these people struggle so hard just to get by everyday. May God bless them and keep them safe. With lots love from California.
100 US $miljonairs in china everyday and then this.
Northern India has very similar roads. I was in Rishikesh, scheduled to go up to a Temple in the mountains the next day, on one of them. That night, we heard of a rock slide and then watched a show about the exact road we were supposed to travel. I canceled my bus ticket-getting too old for that kind of “excitement”.... 😕
True , north eastern india as well
My friend 240p has returned, how i miss you.
good documentary
Do you know what's this year?
+Sipingal Liu year of the Pusay
the road reminds me of what a guy did in 1903 in USA. Now the mines remind me of the wild west before the 1900s began. Good luck to all!
go see africa ahahahaaha
They will have a huge gold rush soon as will Russia, gold will be back at 2001 levels when that kicks in. They will find every nugget LOL! they did after the rush here on west coast. Chinese prospectors sell all kinds of semi precious stones and ore on Ebay already.
beautiful place and people
as if i was included in the time travel .... i hope i would travel in real in this kind of journey .. Thank you so much for sharing your video... well appreciated ...
China👍👍🌹🌹♥♥🙏🙏 love China from Thailand 🙏🙏
Hard driving. Salute to you boss.

Good documentary
Those ladies are wonderful! Good for you, ladies; I loved your barrel, all rusted, all smashed, but even so, sooooo beautiful, showing that it belongs to some ladies, brave ladies. My love and respect to you and to the photographer, for his sensitivity
I strongly lile this documentary.
Thanks
I have watched almost all of these and I live in Maine where we have a good amount of snow and ice. We also have a big mud season which other people call spring. I think I'm going to carry rocks in my car from now on instead of kitty litter!
Living with nature amazing
Oh! Reminds of my grandma village!!! City life full of noise
Hats off to the single piston engine powering the truck that's ferrying stones! 💪
That SUV looks like the love child of a Land Rover Defender 110 and a Jeep Wrangler.
China know to copy everything, like Noke, Aidedis, Channel....
I am not a Chinese, but I like China and Chinese very much. They are symbol of hard work and success. I love them more, if they add values and peace through strong religious practices, trust me they will make the world HEAVEN.
This part is very near north east India. Some of the same tribes live here too like the Lisus, Singphos(Kachins),and Dais (Tais)etc.
lol I love his dialogue translation though xD
"would you like a nice hot potato?" No damnit I want a Valium and a cheeseburger
herewegokids7 lol love it

Interesting/informative/entertaining.

These people are HARD CORE, no other way to say it.
Wow! I have sooo many fun facts now.
Like all truckers have always said "Any load, any road, any time".!
Greece has a lot of narrow roads in the mountains as well
God bless them they are so smart!
My stomach in knots the whole time! Crazy!
You're so right mine too I was looking away cause my stomach was also turning much respect for everyone in need.
Very tough indeed

Thank you Jesus that I was born in Jamaica!

What country are you living in now?
JAchica11 thank you Jesus i was born in the USA
Lol. Will totally relocate if I were these folks.. There is such a thing as the inhabitable places of the earth. This one is sure not inhabitable
@@christieatuh
America, Russia, Africa, & S America used trains & rivers.
I'm glad i watched this video. and heard his grandmom talk truth.
I think the narrator doesn't need to translate whatever they said..sounds like he is reading a bedtime stories..
very interesting but what was this shot with, Nokias from 1980s had better cameras.
With the woodcutters, look at the slack on the chain of the falling saw, it hangs like a loop w/ an air gap of around 2 - 3 inches between the chain & the cutting bar! Insane!
3019. Good programe
narrator is making up his own dialogue... man: "it's so dangerous" narrator: "lets press on".
My-Lien Tang hey it’s your brother tai can’t believe u even commented on this how’s Andrew?
Lol...that's hilarious to know!!! 😂
Thats funny its wrong I know but funny
But for some reason I found his narration very hilarious and interesting. Made me laugh the whole time. I'd like to hear more of him :)
San
That poor woman that had her face tattooed. Wow the other side of the story I sure have a different look on the Tibetans now.
ive been on a road like that on a bus in yunnan china along the dadu river
Takes down some of the only braces in the tunnel...” we have no choice “....... tunnel soon collapsed..... 😳
The struggle is real, but they live on to survive each day
18:35 You can cross the river in 30 minutes using the zipline cable. Or you can hike all the way down to the bridge, but that will take half an hour.
how does it take 30 mins to cross the zip line if it clearly only takes like 30 seconds .....
Quality control on narration script Failed. I believe they meant 30 seconds on zip line or 30 minutes to the nearest bridge.
The new vertical elevator has been installed it is located about 20 feet from the zip line , but i wonder....why is the entrance and exit of the elevator placed at the center of the river?
i was wondering about that, they do say villagers need to check the equipment also they say extra 1/2hrs that if would take the bridge - Getting someone free in the village, 10mins getting saddles up 10 mins, 3 mins zip line, 7min getting free.... could be 30mins you can't just get there and and you are teleported. So crossing a huge river even with a zipline could take 30mins without a doubt.
its more than a half hour and grueling and you have to get to the money spot and sell your goods and get back to return again. you should thank man for what we have done. to get your asses her. so you can sit on your ass and look at a video ( man) on your cell or laptop (man) . just shut up bitch. bet your ass could not do 30 mins of the work the young boys did all day.
Ingenious solution widening the tunnels ... ^_^
These people are amazing in that how are suffering in order to make their tough nature more linear.
240p is all i could get but still watched to the end ,content is great but consider quality, were 2021 guys
Oh HELL no. To all of it
well been there twice recently, but its a nice and undangerous road already
Dear God this world is to tough when are you coming???? I'm so scared of the stones.

Instead of constructing glass bridge China must develop this region .Putting the life of the commuters at risks everyday.
Thanks for your input guys, we will take your advice onboard and be sure to invest in regions that need it the most. Your youtube comments just changed the world.

These poor workers leave the risk faced by Western entrepreneurs behind in the dust.
@35:15...they volunteered to help build the monastery and in return they get some prayers and alcohol......😂😂😂.. that's so cool.
The narrator is making me laugh, I feel like my dad is reading me my bedtime story.
