Operating a dairy farm has taught me one thing, at least; "gross" doesn't exist in my vocabulary.
I've found myself scooping out a septic tank with a five-gallon bucket, and wasn't particularly grossed out by the job. I can directly attribute that to my decades spent around cows. Just pay attention to sanitation where it's needed, and don't worry about it where there's no real risk.
