  • Look out for the last remnants of the temporary Virgin East Coast branding - periods of lovely light and very windy conditions
    From my notes
2 December Dual panto 91114 Durham Cathedral using its number two panto, Tarmac Tallington to Whitemoor sleepers, 91128 and 82209 in special Virgin East Coast Santa livery on 1S10 Kings Cross to Edinburgh - a competition for primary school children to draw the designs was held and the winners were Madeleine Deakin and Amber Maxfield with Madeleine's design used on Virgin East Coast 225 91128 renamed Claus 91 and DVT named Claus and Amber's being used on a Pendolino renamed Penguilino on the West Coast line
5 December note the strength of the wind on the high tension electricity transmission lines deflecting the angle of the insulators, aggregates self discharge train, 170208 in Breckland livery running ECS Norwich to Loughborough, 91128 Claus 91 + 82209 Claus on Leeds to Kings Cross, 46233 Duchess of Sutherland with 47854 on rear on Railway Touring Company the Lindum Fayre Kings Cross to Lincoln in high winds
7 December went out for 1M16 diverted Caledonian sleeper but too dark and messed up the shot so not used here, but used these, (sadly no default 'infinity' focus setting on the camera so hard to find the infinity sweet spot), listen to the background bird sounds, 66018 on Peak Forest Cemex to Norwich - sound of Jazz the horse in his stable calling for his breakfast in the background
8 December Wakefield to Felixstowe containers leaving branch, Ipswich Freightliner depot to Lindsey oil refinery with 66503 running very late for some go go juice, Eccles Road Johnston’s Sidings to Dowlow Briggs Sidings taken after heavy downpour and still spitting with rain
9 December 5Z37 47854 hauling 46233 Duchess with ECS stock on Southall to Norwich for tomorrows Norwich to York charter
10 December 66502 on Crewe Basford Hall to Felixstowe containers, 46233 Duchess of Sutherland on Railway Touring Company the York Yuletide Express 2 - Norwich to York in the wind and the rain

Contrasting weather conditions there Ian, some glorious sunshine for December, but some very strong winds as well! Nice selection, and interesting to see how clear of vegetation the area between the ECML and Stamford lines was back then compared to the bushes and shrubs obscuring this view now.
