Thanks Eli your the best! My wife accidentally deleted 10 years of home videos trying to move them from one drive to another. thankfully she knew enough to STOP everything she was doing on the laptop. at this point we were able to recover 99% of the files . thanks again
Eli, Heya Bro, i Jus came across your videos very recently an from being a guy who knows almost nothing about computers, SHOULD say i am learning a lot through your videos, Thank God for someone like you, real life saver on explaining issues like DATA RECOVERY and stuff, man who would be kind enough to teach them on Internet these days, Thanks again an do continue your work of teaching, hope many like me will be Blessed to hear from someone like you, Thanks, Support and Peace from I.N.D.I.A
@amraag2010 ...I think this works on 2003... Boot off the install CD... skip the first option to "Repair", you will then be given an option to install Windows or to Repair the current installation. Choose "Repair" from this screen... This worked from Windows NT though XP, I'm not sure when they stopped allowing it for servers... basically it just reinstalls all the important OS files. You have to redo all of your Windows Updates if it works, but otherwise your system should run like normal.
No... once they are over written they are gone... Unless you're NSA ... (I've heard they have the ability to recover data that has been overwritten up to 9 times, but it takes up to a year to do...)
Okay, just to make absolutely sure, before I format my flash drive and therefore erase all the files, does this approach apply to removable USB flash drive?
Eli, I really enjoyed the section on ID10T errors. I've seen my share of those over the years. A point that your students may wish to consider before taking on a data recovery job in their professional environment is the ID10T errors on the part of the client. Data recovery software like Recuva can reveal ALL deleted files, not just the one that your looking for. This can lead to "things" being revealed that the client did not intend and put you in the sticky position of having to report it.
You (well Recova actually) just saved me a reshoot so thanks. I had a video shoot yesterday using 5D Mk3 and Atomos Ninja, for some reason the drive failed to be recognised when I tried backing up the footage. After watching your tutorial I downloaded Recover and recovered almost all of the files except for a few which were not crucial to the shoot. Thanks for helping with these tips that are invaluable to some (if not all) of us. You saved me another 3hr trip each way to reshoot, not to mention loosing credibility with a new client. Thanks again.
amazing course! my sony crashed before and didn't know about pointers details,I used the iskysoft data recovery, it worked and most of my data are saved.
Been subscribed to your channel ages and just joined because at the time it piqued my interest. I just thought I lost a bunch of data/personal info that I have been compiling for the last 4-6 years and thank god this method actually worked and I recovered everything. Thank you so much for your hard work and clear presentation.
This guy is the man, it's great how he tells you what to do and how to do it in such a way it's so easy to take in! You would have to be a goons child not to understand.
Something I've always wondered about; I accidentally delete a file and then, because I don't immediately realize what I've done, I start to copy a small file to that partition. As soon as it hits me, I cancel the copy and run recovery software. About 99% of the time, the file I'm looking for won't even be listed, much less recoverable. However, it DOES list the 200+ files that I deleted 3 months ago! OK, they're overwritten, but why are they still listed when the file I just deleted isn't?
This is because you've written a new partition table and, most likely, overwritten some of the data. You can try Photorec or a program like Foremost that will look for the data based on the headers and footers of the file itself. It's a bit more advanced and you'll have to research how to use them, but they can sometimes turn a "hopeless" situation around.
A note on that ID10T error you mentioned at the end, your generalized statement that none of the recovery software will recover files that aren't deleted is not entirely correct. For example, scalpel, which is very unrefined, does not take note of these pointers that still exist. I even took a few minutes to confirm this before posting. In response to everyone here who restored/repartitioned/reset, pick a recovery software and give it a shot.
I know you're very busy Eli, but a response would be Killer. Even from others would be kewl. I moved an external green drive from its case(bad) into my desk top and it shows as a numbered drive and unallocated in disk Mngt. I thought I would have to initialize it in order to access, which I'm guessing was a mistake, but I'm hoping it's one I can overcome and retreive my data. Are external drives automatically encrypted and using my desk top would be useless?
I was having trouble getting important files off of a drive as it was asking me to format it. I ended up getting GetDataBack, and I thought it worked without thoroughly checking the files it recovered. It actually only recovered half the files. Without checking files, I then took that drive and formatted it, and I then installed Ubuntu. I just now reformatted it again. It was about 30gb of files, Ubuntu was only like 5. I have tried all software and none will find files other than Ubuntu files.
Thanks Dylan. Yeah that's the main hurtle, it doesn't recognize it as a drive. Update is that I did purchace a-"like" donor pcb board for the broken usb port but the only thing it did was load WD's smartware. Not sure if that helps or hurts. Will I have to initilize it to the point of giving it a drive letter then work on retrieval? Any help appreciated, thanks...
I haven't done alot of deleted file recovery, but you should be able to point it at unallocated space as long as your machine recognizes it as a drive. If the one you're using does not, you may want to look into some others.
Thank you so much for this software recommendation. I was able to recover nearly 200 files from a disk that suddenly went corrupt on me. Nearly lost 2 years of work on my MA in English. Exhaling now.
If it's that important you can ship your drive off to a high end data recovery shop... they may be able to get the data back for you, but you'll be looking at a $2000+ bill...
I was recovering 1 TB external drive, then I realize I should get another partition drive to save those recovery files and my local drives almost full. I think fristly we should get another empty drive with same size as the recovery drive or more. (11:04) another thing we should consider is the amount of time for recovery, the 1 TB drive full recovery could cost almost 6 hours, so take your best time to start this task.
QUESTION ? Hello Eli, first let me start by saying I love your videos. While doing data recovery one of the top files people ask to recover is music, photos and video, I tend to use photorec from a Windows or Linux machine and never had any problems with either of them but as you said at the end of this video Recuva only finds deleted stuff and not stuff that has been misplaced, is the also true for photorec?
I learn alot with your classes... i will like you to help me with my windows update failed files, i try to do what windows help advised you to do but still there and i can not fix it or deleted, thank you for your time and your help you are very good teacher...God bless you!
Good video's but you also teach people that is not too computer like me, on how to open the files, once it's been recovered. I enjoyed your class. Thank you !
Thanks for the vid. I accidentally deleted my whole downloads folder. I thought I'd just use system restore but my windows protection was disabled somehow. This really helped.
what software do i needed to recover files in mobile phones? like android phones or gadget? THANK YOU! :* . i've been watching your videos and its really helpful and good!..
the first warning Eli... can't we just have the recuva in an external hard drive and run or scan the computer? do we really need to install the recuva software into the computer?
I learnt alot from this lesson. Thanks for explaining everything clearly and in detail. Especially the part, when you spoke about how the pointer of the file is deleted, but the file is still on the PC etc. And the part about I.D.10.T errors.
Hello ELI . those pointers are done by operating systems ? . Let's say that i want to recover some data from a hard disk that used to running ubuntu . i've put it on slave and i'm running Recuva on Windows 7 . Recuva will be able to make the pointers on a hard disk that was running other operating system ? . Thx P.S : Sorry if i find the aswer to the an another video but i have a short memory and i don't want to forget it :))
So, quick question, since deleting a file simply erases the pointer to its location, would a simple way to permanently clean a hard drive be to use a program such as crunch to generate a massive text file to overwrite any free space and then reformat? I have done this by accident by putting an extra 0 in the program :D
I knew it wasn't too hard to recovered deleted files in Windows (except for overwrites, shredding, reformating, repartitioning, etc.), but I was told it was not possible in a Linux environment ?
but i DELETED the DOWNLOADS,, ... the hall downloads,, and it never went even to the recycle bin,,, it jusf GOT DELETED,, how to RECOVER THAT Please help me out
I have a HDD that came out of a WD20000-H1NC-00 networked drive. The drive wouldn't show up on my network, so I took it out of the case and connected it to my computer using a SATA to USB external powered adapter. In Windows XP it shows the drive as a 668 MB CD Drive (healthy) - in Windows 7 it shows the complete drive as being unallocated. I am using the program on my XP machine cause it's a desktop and I can leave it running for a day if needed vs. my laptop. When I plug it directly into my desktop as a extra data drive, my desktop runs slow and freezes. I am trying to do a scan using AOMEI Partition Assistant Edition - the Partition Recovery Wizard. to see it is shows any data on the drive (I'm not sure what file/format the drive is in that was used by the NAS drive case). When I choose the drive and doing a full scan it's stuck on 0% scan process. It's a 1 TB drive (930.86 GB total actual space). Any suggestions on how I can get the files that are on this drive copied to a new drive without deleting anything? Thanks.
This will be hell for me to do. I accidentally deleted a server world for minecraft...which I guess I could easily find...if I hadden't already deleted previous versions before hand. I had a look through and recovered all that was in the folder, but the mishmash of files from other versions makes it impossible to organise and set apart...even though I have my world back, it is still lost forever. And here's me remembering backing it up but nope...no back up.
wen u say "not too damaged" are you resuming to viruses or worms r whatever? ,is it possible for logs and all that sort to be recovered from using this tool aswell? or is this jus serting txt.files? thanks eli
Hi Eli! Thank you so much for your video. I have a question that.... My job depends potentially on this. I recorded a video A on my SD card, formatted the card and then recorded a video B on it. I didn't even realize what I did until now. Is there any way to retrieve the video that was written over and formatter. It is very, very imp. for my job and I am feeling terrible with figuring out that I am responsible for this. I really hope I hear from you soon! Thank you in advance.
I have a question. After i have accidentaly reformated my E drive i lost 400 gigs of data. I recovered data several hours after deleting them using Recuva. nothing was overwritten. i have recovered my 400 gigs of data + 100 Gigs of old data. Its all great but problem is that almost nothing has its original name. it just has a random number assigned by recuva [002535], [024352] .... and i dont know whats what. Data is not just mine. it has data from two of my sisters as well. from 500 gigs i only have only few gigs of videos and few pictures. so there probably has to be some way it can be done i have managed to rearange pictures, because it was easy to open them. having to unzip 200 rarfiles and listening through several thousands hours of music is not that easy. It would take me several weeks even more to open each document, checking what it is, renaming it.... Is there some whay i can recover that data WITH original name or maybe even its location. Or is there a way i can list faster through it and check what sometinh is. I have unpluged my E drive as sugested here so nothing gets overwritten in case there is a way to fix that as well.
Marin6991 I wonder if this is the case with everyone. I'm sorry that is the case. I have 1.8 TB of info. Dunno if I could take renaming all of that....
i didnt rename all 500 gigs, i just found few important files and renamed those, checked content of other things and discarded them if they were not important
Ah ok. I ended up buying EaseUS Data Recovery after I did a test that did not change the file names. It's recovering 1.8tb now. Not trying to promote it or anything. Just I would have had to do this program though windows and I just felt more comfortable using Mac OS.
Trying to help a friend recover his lost files on his external hard drive, he plugged it into his computer to show someone some photos, when he was done he unplugged it, next time he went to plug his external hard drive in all his data was gone, I followed this class to see if I could find the data, it found some, but not all, you have any suggestions as to what happened? He didn't "safely remove this device" Thanks in advance
If you ran the program correctly you should get a list of documents it sound that can be recovered from the pendrive. Once the list comes up make sure to check all of the documents or the documents you want and make sure that the Recvura will recover the files on files which is on your computer not on the pendrive otherwise the recovered files might overwrite the location of files you had on your pendrive and then you wont be able to recover those files
Judging from what I have seen here is a very good program and it udobnaya.U pleasant and most importantly simple and intuitive interface. Only I have a question about this program. Can we restore the file that Haas had been replaced with another version? And how to do it. Since reading that people, this process does not always work. Thank you for this nice video .
Also, I tried moving said drive into another enclousure and it's still giving the same results. What is the best approach / direction to head from here? I believe that it's about data recovery, but I have to access it first. Any help from anyone will be appreciated, thanks all, later, Killer...
racuva doesnt work and i know my files are not over written cause it just happened about 1 hour ago, racuva was installed on a external harddrive and it was a folder holding 66 gigs of music, about 2500 songs. i am a dj and basically just deleted a fourth of my playlist and am booked the next 4 weeks. what to do!!!
i can't find them :( i lost 2 folders of photos today, maybe like 2gb or so. they accidentally deleted when i tried to delete a onedrive folder and i recovered my whole recycling, the onedrive recycling, restored previous onedrive data, there was no folder restore data, have been looking through revuva for hours and nothing is popping up. no photo previews of the photos i want and since i dont know the specific photo names i just can't find them. i keep trying to convince myself that they don't just disappear and they got to be somewhere but its looking more and more like they are gone
I should also mention that these are extremely important server files that I absolutely need to recover. I'm really sorry to bother you with this, but it's extremely important to me and quite a few others.
Hi Ali, I had Folder Lock software on my PC, I locked a folder with this software. I had to copy the entire disk data to an external drive. I selected the entire data and copied into the external drive. I then formatted my PC's hard drive. However, when i checked the external drive, I am unable to view the folder that was locked by the Folder Lock. Is there a way to access this folder now.
Hello I am big trouble I accidently formatted a cd-r PLEASE HELP I need to recover all that info it was work related. Is recuva good for CD-R ?? Or what can I do Please
Hey, My external hard drive was stolen and reformatted the information is extremely important to me. SOMEONE stole my 1TB WD hard drive and I assume typed the password in too many times and triggered a reformat. Before I had about 700GB of data used. Now it is blank. All these different recovery software won't bring my files back. Is there any other way??
Hi, I don't know what I did to my computer some notice like the CRdrdll.files are missing. It would not let us use anything without this box opening up, no internet, no word, excel, any kind of programs. So my husband did a recovery back to its original state and we have nothing, no photos, documents, I had a ton of them, and nothing is working. I lost everything, how can we bring them up, or is it late cause he did a total recover on it. Please help!
Will Recuva allow you to recover deleted texts done on an Iphone? All I have is the hard drive that the Iphone was backed up to. The backups show up on the list of the Wise REcovery software but when I try to open them they are all gibberish. Help!
If you are worried about installing it and over writing a document, just install it to a flash drive and run from there being you have the option to select which drive you are trying to scan for recovery
Excuse me, do you know a particular file recovering software that can completely scan my hard drive for files I have deleted a long time ago well over a year ago and recover them for myself? Is it true just because you delete the files whether on your pc screen or recycle bin does not mean the file is completely gone? For example, would it be possible to recover my files I deleted in 2016 and 2017?
I have tried to use recuva a few times but has never managed to recover anything. Are there any other free recovering tools. I use to use something called jpeg dump for recovering jpg from flash media. I cant find the tool on my computers and a Google search brought nothing but rubbish up.
as soon as I connect hard drive from my dead toshiba lap top to a windows 7 think pad it happens a question: do I want to recover this files. Right after asking me to format it - which will erase all of the data. how do i get around it?
I downloaded the software and it only retrieved one file and couldn't open it because it said it was corrupt. I have several hundred files I accidentally deleted when I went to install myself as an administrator and I saw the guy I bought it from, 3 years ago, still on there so I deleted the files, not knowing I was deleting everything I had created under his administration. I have some very important stuff on there. Is there something else I can do to pull up the other files which are on the C drive? I have a lot more stuff on there but there are books I've written that I have to get off of there. Anything else I don't care about. They were saved on my desktop. Thanks
Hi Eli the Computer Guy, can I use this method to recover lost NAS / SAN storage data on that raids? greetings from Dem. Republic of Congo! we here follow you too..
In my case I deleted 'my documents' several thousand files . RECUVA found all of them ... but recovers them in a single group' How can you restore maintaining folder structure ?

It is very, very imp. for my job and I am feeling terrible with figuring out that I am responsible for this. I really hope I hear from you soon! Thank you in advance.
I have a question. After i have accidentaly reformated my E drive i lost 400 gigs of data.
I recovered data several hours after deleting them using Recuva. nothing was overwritten. i have recovered my 400 gigs of data + 100 Gigs of old data. Its all great but problem is that almost nothing has its original name. it just has a random number assigned by recuva [002535], [024352] .... and i dont know whats what.
Data is not just mine. it has data from two of my sisters as well.
from 500 gigs i only have only few gigs of videos and few pictures. so there probably has to be some way it can be done
i have managed to rearange pictures, because it was easy to open them. having to unzip 200 rarfiles and listening through several thousands hours of music is not that easy.
Did you find a solution to the [002535], [024352] ....file naming issues???
going through everything and renaming it manually. nothing else

I wonder if this is the case with everyone.
If I formatted the HDD, just deleted partitions during the windows installation and created them again...
can I recover any data?
I used the software but it restores some of the files but when I try to open them it writes to me that the files are damaged
Can Recuva recover documents that were deleted from a USB drive?
All the pictures say file format not supported or invalided ?
Trying to help a friend recover his lost files on his external hard drive, he plugged it into his computer to show someone some photos, when he was done he unplugged it, next time he went to plug his external hard drive in all his data was gone, I followed this class to see if I could find the data, it found some, but not all, you have any suggestions as to what happened? He didn't "safely remove this device"
Thanks in advance
What about if system is formatted ????
Also, I tried moving said drive into another enclousure and it's still giving the same results. What is the best approach / direction to head from here? I believe that it's about data recovery, but I have to access it first. Any help from anyone will be appreciated, thanks all, later, Killer...

racuva doesnt work and i know my files are not over written cause it just happened about 1 hour ago, racuva was installed on a external harddrive and it was a folder holding 66 gigs of music, about 2500 songs. i am a dj and basically just deleted a fourth of my playlist and am booked the next 4 weeks. what to do!!!
if you already formatted the partition and you create a new partition there is no way to recover the files because it is totally wipe out.
I made a Partition for my portable hard disk and I deleted all the data can I get them back by this way ?
can i recover the data in my hard drive even the files from my first use without using any software?
i can't find them :( i lost 2 folders of photos today, maybe like 2gb or so. they accidentally deleted when i tried to delete a onedrive folder and i recovered my whole recycling, the onedrive recycling, restored previous onedrive data, there was no folder restore data, have been looking through revuva for hours and nothing is popping up. no photo previews of the photos i want and since i dont know the specific photo names i just can't find them. i keep trying to convince myself that they don't just disappear and they got to be somewhere but its looking more and more like they are gone
I should also mention that these are extremely important server files that I absolutely need to recover. I'm really sorry to bother you with this, but it's extremely important to me and quite a few others.
Hello. I did a portfolio in Microsoft Word and I thought that I saved it, however when I checked it was not the final draft. can it be recovered?
Hi Ali,
I had Folder Lock software on my PC, I locked a folder with this software.
I had to copy the entire disk data to an external drive. I selected the entire data and copied into the external drive. I then formatted my PC's hard drive. However, when i checked the external drive, I am unable to view the folder that was locked by the Folder Lock.
Is there a way to access this folder now.

Please help!
would this work on an imac ? 2012
You just saved my life and weeks of work!! This was perfect in every way.. Thank you very much!!
Will Recuva allow you to recover deleted texts done on an Iphone? All I have is the hard drive that the Iphone was backed up to. The backups show up on the list of the Wise REcovery software but when I try to open them they are all gibberish. Help!
i have downloaded recvua however you spell it, and it dont work. i just accidently deleted my files, ran using that program, and nothing works >
When re-installing the system, how do I know my document wasn't overwritten by the newly installed OS?!
sir one doubt i lost one of my important file 6 months back .. can i recover it now with this software ?
I cant find the tool on my computers and a Google search brought nothing but rubbish up.
as soon as I connect hard drive from my dead toshiba lap top to a windows 7 think pad it happens a question:
do I want to recover this files. Right after asking me to format it - which will erase all of the data. how do i get around it?
hi!
i'm just wandring if this works only on HDD and not on SDD or flash drive ??????????????????
I downloaded the software and it only retrieved one file and couldn't open it because it said it was corrupt. I have several hundred files I accidentally deleted when I went to install myself as an administrator and I saw the guy I bought it from, 3 years ago, still on there so I deleted the files, not knowing I was deleting everything I had created under his administration. I have some very important stuff on there. Is there something else I can do to pull up the other files which are on the C drive? I have a lot more stuff on there but there are books I've written that I have to get off of there. Anything else I don't care about. They were saved on my desktop. Thanks
Hi Eli the Computer Guy,

RECUVA found all of them ... but recovers them in a single group'
How can you restore maintaining folder structure ?
