    I was able to adapt xt 11 speed shifter (i spec 2) to my deore brake lever (i spec ev) by removing the i spec 2 plate and using a shorter bolt (brake rotor bolt). I saw this on reddit and very happy with the result. Im always referring back to your videos for reference. Thank you again.

    Your videos about the XT M8000 components convinced me to go down that route. I got a fatbike which came stock with a not so great 3x10 and asked the bike shop to replace the parts with a 1x11 XT M8000 setup. Besides that the shop didn't feel the need to install a chainring with any sort of chain retention (I had to get a RaceFace narrow/wide to stop the chain from falling) they delievered the bike with a M8000 RD + 11-42 cassette + speed shifter and according Shimano chain (actually thinking of it I have to check wether it's also wrong as I have some rubbing in the lowest gears which I can't get rid off easily). All in all I am super happy and thanks to your video I made a very good decision on what path to go in terms of drivetrain. Next upgrade will be the XT M8000 hydr. brakes which you seem to like a lot too. I will be replacing the stock mechanical Tektros that came with the bike (entry level Felt fatbike DD70). I think that with my combination then (XT M8000 RD + cassette + brakes + RaceFace Ride crankset with 32t chainring) the bike will have made a massive leap into very decent bike territory without spending a fortune. Thx for your great videos..

    Dude, I can't tell you how happy I am to have found this video. Not only am I in the process of installing all the same parts, but I'm also replacing all the exact same parts you had (Race Face ring, One Up cogs, SRAM X9).
    One thing you didn't address in the video, if you wouldn't mind: What's that little gray lever that you can push up for "ON" or leave down? Oh, and what's the little rubber cap that's on the "Plate unit cover?"
    You are really good at making these tutorials; keep it up!

    Ok so I went with a 3x10 to 1x10 conversion with the Race Face 32T up front and the Wolf Tooth 40T in back with their 16T drop in. It is fine, but also just...ok. Shifting can be somewhat inconsistent going back up to that 16T. I wish I had just gone the 1x11 route from the get go after watching this. I think the Shimano 1x11 M8000 Groupset is what Santa needs to bring this year. Nice vid!

      Well Santa was a bit late thanks to the Fedex delays, but did arrive this morning. I've just completed the 1x11 XT M8000 conversion on my Trek Fuel Ex-7. The only difference for me is that I kept the Race Face 32T Narrow Wide up front. It took about an hour fifteen start to finish because I wanted to only do it once. The hardest part was the cable through the frame as my plastic tubing slipped out of the tape and went up inside the frame on the lower end when I was removing the old cable. I was able to snag the new cable end out of the lower hole with some tweezers however. Love love love the setup! Thanks for the reference guide!

    Hey man, nice video thanks!
    I recently went 1X11 on my Kona as well with the XT M8000 set. One thing i noticed when setting chain length with the +2 links method is that my chain felt way short. Watching your video and your +4 links method - your chain seems to be really pulling the derailleur along way out similar to my primary setup length. I ended up adding 4 links (so that would be length of big cog and chain ring + 6 links!) in order to have my rd nicely tucked at the low gears and roughly perpendicular to the ground on highest gears.. Would appreciate your thoughts.
    Happy trailing!

    What's the point of mounting your bottle down there? I had mounted my old bottle cage to my new bike and due to the wider bottom tube it didn't fit straight. (It has a pump mount at the side.) Even so I have a very large mudguard at the front, the bottle always got extremely dirty on the trails. And since I also have a camelback without a cap on top of it, it was a huge problem (I like my water without dirt.) I had to buy a new bottle cage so the downtube shields the bottle. I can only imagine that yours has to be covered in mud when you go out riding.

    Is your shifter pretty stiff? Mine is and I'm not sure if it's designed that way or is it because I use old housings that are a bit too long

      +LoveMTB weird part is that I cannot detect any change with the clutch off

    • @latuman
      @latuman 8 лет назад

      ***** This is indoors also, but it's currently -25C or -13F outside and then the shifter gets completely frozen. Remember, it's brand new, but the thumb lever takes a good while to return after depressing. I think this could be "normal", since I suppose these parts including grease and lubricants are designed to be used in warm weather.
      I'll start switching the housing right now, let's see how it goes.

    • @latuman
      @latuman 8 лет назад

      ***** I installed the new housing and the motion is much smoother. It's actually designed to be much different from cheaper models. Old one felt linear, but XT feels "bouncy" somehow, however it is now much easier to actuate. Surprisingly, there is not supposed to be a "loop" near the derailleur, like you see with road bikes and such, so the cable and housing is much shorter than normal.

    How many teeth is your current chain ring for that set up? I have a 28-38 and 11 - 40 xt casette and im considering going 1x i dont know if i have to go 32T or 34T fpr my chainring. What do you suggest? I go on long rides but i also want to do trail or downhills. Thank you

    As I understand, the standard freehub is shimano 9/10. I've been reading through a few comments and you have told others that no other parts are needed to install a xt8000 11gears. Is it true that an 11gears fit right in on a 9/10 freehub?

    • @ItsExetic
      @ItsExetic 6 лет назад

      Even some of the 12 speeds will fit on a normal shimano hub :P Like the sram NX 12 speed cassette or sunrace 12 speed cassette.

    I'm seriously considering going to this group set. My Norco 29er was upgraded to Deore M590 series and it shifts rough. Constant tweaking and servicing and it does it again. Pisses me right off! Looked into SRAM NX and reviews seem good. But it can't hold a candle to M8000 for quality and smooth shifting. The Deore shifts like an Acera. "slam bam boom find a gear." lol

    • @rollinrat4850
      @rollinrat4850 7 лет назад

      Joe N go with the m8000. Its refined,easy to install and works perfect. Sram replacement cassettes and chainrings($100) are way overpriced. You can get 2-3 xt cassettes for price of one nx. Sram also requires a special hub driver for 10t cog and youre stuck with the sram system.
      Ive set this drivetrain up on a few customers bikes and tuned up alot more. I think shimano does better testing before products are released to the public. All this aside if you like long rides (4+ hrs) and long climbs in big mtns,
      1x might not be for you. Im still riding 3x10 and 2x9 because I need super low gears for my mega- rides and I like being able to find discount parts

    • @rollinrat4850
      @rollinrat4850 7 лет назад

      I meant to compare price of xt cassettes to GX, which is closer in quality to XT. But still youre paying way more for a cassette of lesser quality. IMO shimano cassettes have always shifted a little better than Sram, they run smoother and the whole systems together are easier and less finicky to tune

    Hello. Have a question. I have 2x10 system and thinking of upgrade to 1x11. So, may I install 11 speed cassette on the same wheel where I have 10 speed cassette at the moment? I mean if the same wheel will be compatible with 11 speed? Thanks.

    Wanted to ask you if your free stroke bolt came very tight when you got the brakes. I brought them but I haven't install it in the bike yet, but I tried to unscrew the bolt and I couldn't do it. I used a flat screwdriver (very carefully), but I think it shouldn't be a problem if the bolt wasn't too tight.

    • @iainthavinthat
      @iainthavinthat 8 лет назад

      ***** I did it counter clockwise and yeah, it's not flat, but didn't have a Philips screwdriver when I tried. I gonna buy one, but still I felt it was too tight, I just hope is not cross threaded or something. Most of the time a flat do the trick and make me concernd about it because in MTBR someone said that one of his brakes the free stroke bolt was really hard to screw/unscrew. Harder than the other brake.

    • @iainthavinthat
      @iainthavinthat 8 лет назад

      ***** Alright, thanks. I will get the right screwdriver and try it again when I install the brakes.
