- Leopold's Maneuvers or the Obstetric Grips are the movements or the actions performed by an examiner in the abdominal palpation of a gravid mother after 28 weeks of gestation.
This name is given on the name of Christian Gerhard Leopold a German gynecologist.
Prerequisite is-
- Empty her bladder
- Stand on the right side of a patient
- Make the patient lie in a dorsal position with knees flexed
- Rub hand before going to touch mother's abdomen
There are 4 Leopold's Maneuvers or the Obstetric Grips-

- Use both hands.
- Facing the face toward the patient's face.

- Facing the face toward the patient's face.
- Palpate the lateral aspect of the umbilicus, keeping one hand steady, and using another hand to palpate, and repeat the process on both sides.
- Locate the Back, Limbs, and anterior shoulder.
3. 3rd Leopold's Maneuver / Pawlik's Grip / 2nd Pelvic Grip -
- Use one hand only.
- Facing the face toward the patient's face.
- Palpate by keeping the ulnar border of the right hand at the symphysis pubis and grasp the presentation.
-Identify the presentation, descent, and engagement.
4. 4th Leopold's Maneuver / 1st Pelvic Grip -
- Use both hands.
- Facing the face toward the patient's feet.
- Palpate the presentation, presenting part, engagement, and attitude by using both hands

The 4th pelvic grip or the deep pelvic grip is the SECOND pelvic grip and NOT first pelvic grip. This is being wrongly taught to nursing students. Pawlik's grip is the FIRST pelvic grip.
Yea I agree
I disagree, follows my text exactly! Well done!
Pawlik is 2nd Pelvic and 3rd Leopold manuever

Complete flexion : presenting part vertex or occiput?
Vertex is presentation and occiput is presenting part on a vertex in complete flexion.

Yes, we are currently working on this issue. Will be fixed very soon

But the recommended app is not responding any help
Thanks you can download from Google Play Store in android only if facing problem then let me know again
👌👌🙏🙏
It’s that night of OSCE exams 😂
Mad Respect to indians
Nice. But instead of pictures you should have used hand movements for palpation. Little confusion whether to use fingers or palm of the hand.
Can we use pelvic grips in podalic presentation. If so which one??
Yes, as I have explained here, in podalic presentation also the Lie is longitudinal and all the grips you can perform and get the findings.
Like in fundal grip you will find hard globular part (head) instead soft( buttocks), as buttocks are over lying in the lower pole of the uterus, by this only you can identify that the pole is podalic
Thank you for your response Mam.
My doubt is whether it is necessary to perform pelvic grip 1 and 2 in poladic presentation.
Yes, it is, without that how can you be able to confirm that where the body parts are lying ?? Or where the back is, to find out FHS and many more to know....
Thank you mam
In ur image, isn't that a cephalic presentation?
Yes, the presentation is cephalic, but what I meant to explain in fundal grip is that, to identify which part is occupying in fundal area, so on palpation if you feel round & globular part then it is the cephalic area, it means head, that I mean.🙂
Skip first 3 minutes to the subject
Mam PLZZ explain what is bellotment in pelvic grip 1
दिदी ANM 2 year के video पृसुतिशासत्र के चाहिये
Ok
Good afternoon mam Oru doubt if head engagement mean immobile head mam plz clear my doubt mam
After the engagement, the head becomes fixed in the pelvic cavity and doesn't move and float.
