Baking rice? Oven proof cling film? Why haven't I know this stuff was a thing before
A WHOOOOLE NEW WORLD! You don't actually have to have special baking rice, just normal basmati rice will do. And if you can't get hold of oven-proof cling film, line the pastry with greaseproof paper, and our the rice on top. Happy baking!

Keep it in a tin, and then use it next time you want to bake some pastry.

Jamie said half fate to flour. Since flour was 250 grams, I assume he meant 125g of butter which is roughly four ounces. Must have been a typo

How to make crispy lentils
You said it wouldn't shrink. When you took it out of the oven you could see it had shrunk. Then, through the magic of editing, you presented another pastry case which hadn't shrunk, and pretended it was the original one. What a shitty thing to do.

I used this recipe but for little tart tins. The pastry shrunk 😔. Used rice and grease proof paper to weight them and pricked the bottoms (ooeerr) what am I doing wrong?
Yes, the bit about it not shrinking (4.31) is BS! If you look closely at 4.34 you can clearly see around 5mm of flan tin! Miraculously in the next spinning shot it's not shrunk back and pastry is level with flan case!! Explain that one please....
IMO it's best to not trim back (leave a little extra pastry slightly folded over rim) then trim neatly with a serrated knife when baked and cooled. But that's just my opinion of course..😁

Did you prepare the baking tin with any flour or butter? (so it doesn't stick when it comes out)
They don't really need it, there's enough butter in the pastry. However if you wanted the extra insurance, a light coat of melted butter would work. ;)

Pastry is one of my favourite thing to make. So therapeutic and satisfying. Homemade tarts always look so impressive. Heat proof cling film is something I have never come across before!
It so handy to have! But if you can't find any, you can line the pastry with greaseproof paper, and pour the rice on top.

Has to be cold otherwise if its room temperature you'll melt the butter

You keep it for the next one you make. You can also get pie weights that do the same concept.

I hate blind baking!! Instead, I freeze it in the pan about an hour then it bakes perfectly.

I made sweet shortcut pastry today following this recipe and it turned out perfect. I was making a mulberry and apple pie. I used packet vanilla powder instead of vanilla pod, still tasted great 😊

Jamie the one thing that's not clear in this vid is what it's suitable for? Like can it be used just cold as it is without further cooking or does it need to be filled then baked again? Or both? Looks great though and the videos are always funnier with Buddy in them. You should do another taste test with Gennaro DJ BBQ but have Buddy do it as well lol.

its powdered sugar. you can buy it or take regular sugar and blend it until its a fine powder.

I won't bake rice, it's too much oven energy and as I bake several and freeze after, I'd need a lot of rice. if I use normal rice can I still cook it normally afterwards? I tried beans and it was a bust.
