- Garrick Ohlsson & Warsaw National Philharmonic Orchestra - Frederic Chopin Piano Concerto No. 1 in E minor, Op. 11 Allegro maestoso (1) 2010
with polish conductor Antoni Witt
Klavierkonzert Nr. 1 e Moll op. 11
I am respecting Grarrik Ohlsson not only his redition of Chopin, but his understanding of piano displayed skill and the inovations of Chopin figure skill. It is helping passing the classical misic to new generations as humannity civilazation treasure. Partiqulately in this chaio time, people need the pure love, pure moral standard, pure spirit altitute toward musical art.
I must learn this concerto in my lifetime. Just so beautiful! Mr Ohlsson is a wonderful interpreter!
well, did you?
It's incredible interpretation. All my life I admired Zimmermann's version. But accidentally I found that one, I can't explain it but it brought tears to my eyes instantly. Something intangible happened here
Have you started it yet :P?
Chopin could make any piece absolutely beautiful.
Mr. Ohlsson's pellucid rendition of Chopin's music is like the Walden Pond of Henry D. Thoreau: so beautiful an expansive blue sky..."makes me feel happy but also sad" in the incomprehensibility of those "uncanny dark clouds visiting me every now and then," whose forms and drab tones seem to limn a most significant language for my soul.
Yes, there is more to music than playing all the notes correctly and as fast as possible. It needs soul and true homage to the music itself.
The poles have very beautiful music.
I love this piece! I'm not usually one to love piano concertos, for i find their melodeis become lost in too many notes... But in this work i find each note on the piano seems very carefully chosen and it doesn't become overwhelming. LOVE IT!
What a spiritually flexible conductor! I Whoever soloist he plays music with, he fully devotes his gestures to them and understands their emotions, as if he himself were playing the piano. What a free soul really...
Antoni Wit
I noticed the same! How interesting.
Incredible piano playing: bravo!
magical, subltle, personal resonating with the music's inner language
no need to compare Garrick Ohlsson to Mr. x , Y and Z
he is a unique musician/pianist; one hears that Chopin comes 'first', served and recreated by him ! One of the greatest 1st Prize winners in the Chopin competition history.
nicely played olhsson
wow he triumphed over the stage with the acoustics - legend
In describing the Chopin piano concertos Garrick joked that it is incredibly boring for violinists who are asked only to pass their bows back and forth while the piano is given all the magical elements of the piece. I laughed but it hardly seems important while listening to this piece. The orchestra is lovely and his playing beautiful. This was performed 40 years after he won the Chopin Piano Competition. Today we are so spoiled by the production quality of these videos... but I'm still happy this is around 11 years later.
I disagree. The orchestral intro many have sounded over-articulated because they are taking it at a more relaxed tempo, which is nice in and of itself. And Ohlsson demonstrates once again why he deserved the top prize at the Chopin Competition. Gorgeous articulation, every note sparkles and the tempo is perfect for those who prefer an alternative to the Argerich approach where the music is over before it even begins.
I agree. I can say I've never been disappointed with anything Ashkenazy has done. He's tops.
Oh yeah man! Joe Townley kinda rang a bell in my head.. Yep, the Rachmaninov romance is a gorgeous piece..
Btw, yeah there's some people, besides a formidable technique, phrase things unbelievably beautifully.. My favourite is Ashenazy, who has an inhuman technique but never abuses it (sad that he never recorded Chopin PC1).. But there's also other fabulous technicians which play stuff too slowly, like Kissin.. It's really only a few that can play both technically and emotionally..
Hi satyu. I hope I got back to you re that Rachmaninoff Romance, but if I didn't It was absolutely stunning. For a 17 YO Rach is one of the underrated geniuses of music. Re this comment, incredible that you found it since it's over a year old. I agree Argerich has one of the best techniques in pianistic history but like most it gets in the way of interpretation sometimes. When one CAN play at speeds like that one generally does, usually to the detriment of the music. I rarely like fast tempi.
Njoy. thanks espcially the profesional players !!
Argerich is just technically very good and when the music is brisk, her playing works.. Like a Rachmaninov cadenza.. Or a Chopin etude.. But it doesn't have the playfulness or seductive power I would like.. Especially in orgasmic music like this concerto..
04:41: Piano solo start
Thanks Garrick l am pleased also to have Italien swedish blood
ENDS IN THE MIDDLE!
You really have to rethink the way you look at music. I'm sorry but your views are immature. This pianist is known to be currently one of the best Chopin interpreters. Known by professional judges. Please take this the right way. By the way, being human we "FUCK UP". Its what makes us human. If you want something perfect go listen to a recording that has been edited to perfection. End of story.
This is some of the most pedantic orchestral playing I have ever heard - stressing not only every single downbeat, but in many instances every single beat. Pedantic, unimaginative, unvaried, routine conducting on behalf of Mr. Witt. The orchestra has good potential, but Mr. Witt provides a disservice to Chopin. True, the orchestral tutti are not the greatest orchestral music ever written; but they could at least be inflected with some musical meaning.
martha argerich 1965 recording being my favorite i feel this is most similar for some reason
I have always thought that Argerich owned this concerto... I like her playing of the f minor concerto less.
I feel the same way!
You must be the foremost professionals...I am am simply a grandmother enjoying the gloriusness of sound....
indeed :D
SHAME: This is incomplete! BOO!
best comment ever.
I like this but much prefer the Cho Seong-jin version at the Chopin competition.
@BJWoodcock He didn't. I understand it was a mix up by the concert promoters/publishers in Paris who got the numbering the wrong way round.
Thank you for sharing. Could you please upload the complete piece? I miss the almost 4 last minutes. By te way, I got the same concert (Garrick with Witt) but in a different concert hall, but I think this scenario is more spectacular even. Where did you got it? Thank you.
+alejandro ocampo This was recorded in the Great Theater (Teatr Wielki) in Warsaw
Thank you very much for the video... wonderful played!!! but I think the name is: Ohlsson....?
好棒
Sorry an error. The tough the Queen Elisabeth competion was in 1968
Please tell me where I can find all parts of this concerto?
For a split second, I thought I saw 41 million views.
:(

:(((
9:15, an error?
Why does this stage look like the realm of the Queen of the Night? ...
When l saw MAM DAD ERIKWASA CHOPINHEART SWITCH DOWN(even WORSE than Chopintouch vanish in Great halls),l am more LIKELY TO be like Arthurs Rubinsteins brother revolutionairy rather than Arthur (MAMS DARLING LAST BORN). For today art(ists) is more LIKELY to be like Rimbaud cast from society himself, even if Rubinstein was a HUMANLOVER LIFELOVER, Seymour Bernstein 95 survived as ARTPIANIST
For we were 'AQUARIEFISHES' THAT NOT GOT OUR 22 DEGREES BUT WAS PUSHED OUT AMONG POLARDOGS
I agree there's lots of nice people in America.. I live in America although I'm not an American.. But you've got to agree there's a lot of brats and jerks here..
Does he hit a wrong note at 9:14?
Yes
Who cares?
PROS: Lots of very beautiful melodic phrasings, solid architectural grasp,
CONS: tone a bit feminine, lacks true verve and a youthful drive, some rhythmic nuances missing too.
Did Harvey Weinstein do this recording before going to prison?
=
Somebody change that thumbnail he looks like Harvey Weinstein!
i came here because of BoA
The piano is out of tune
The Chopin competion in 1970 was the weakest of all time. The top 2 was 1.Garrick Ohlsson 2.M.Uchida As we know M.Uchida was the 10th prize winner in the Queen Elisabeth competion in 1969.Also the most awful piano competion ever the Leeds in 1975 the results 1.Ditri Alexeev 2.M.Uchida We know that D.Alexeev the awful player in the piano history with the our own the finnish Olli Mustonen who is a raw a rough an awful like Alexeev.I never like Gilels Zimerman Yundi Li or Ohlsson playing Chopin 1
You don’t like Gillels? What’s the matter with you?
