So yes this piece looks insanely like Giorno Giovanna! I actually wasn't aware of the character before creating it.. but honestly it freaks me out how close it does look like the character. Glad it brought people into the video! Maybe I actually have to do some real fantart now :x
Right off the bat this is better than every other blending guide I've found, because you actually showed which brush you use. It was driving me insane that no one else did.
First, thank you for the nice explanation Second, thank you for the DB with the corrosponding brushes. Third, subscribed. Side note: What i think most people dont really get with blending is the fundamentals of Color Theory and Anatomy behind it. You can blend all you want but to make it look good you have to understand how light and color interact with each other on different surfaces. Have a great week, cheers.
For me, I understand the lighting and shadows but I find it hard to pick the correct colours. I know you have to change the hue and then the colour inside the triangle (I don't know the names of this stuff) otherwise it would look muddy. But I'm just starting digitally. I'm painting a rather pale character. Though I would like to give her more colour now I've seen that she looks too pale 💀😂. Though when I'm doing the shading,: it comes out a decent pinky shade, but I'm on the multiply mode it goes rather dark though I use that for shading anyway. So it's fine, all is good, but when I put it on the screen it makes the character look sick 😂 with such pale skin. So I'll probably just add more of a peachy colour. Over the top.
I understand Color theory and light behavior, It's just that I'm new to digital art and I'm having a difficulty on applying my traditional blending style on digital arts.
I LOVE drawing and illustration, and my traditional skills have improved over time but I've always struggled with digital work. I went to an art school for architecture design and my roommates were illustrators and it was astounding watching them work and get a million times better than when I first met them. It encouraged me to keep doing my traditional art and dive into digital art, but its a struggle trying to figure things out on your own sometimes. Blending has always been an issue with me, its so much easier with a pencil and finger! I appreciate people like you who show things like this, even if you consider it simple. Thank you for posting, and providing your brushes too!
I don't know how to thank you ! Your "main" brush is revolutionnary for me ! I did the first painting that i love and it's due to you ! Thank you a lot !
I'm starting to try to figure out how to blend colors and how to show volume properly and this tutorial helped me a lot because 1) it's short, 2) you explain the fundamentals quickly and to the point, and 3) you apply the technique slowly on a real piece instead of a thousand of boxes. Thank you so so much! Now, time to practice it 😁
Dave, I had a horrible thing happen to me yesterday. I had a drawing all set up with the perfect proportions and all the colors and values I liked, and it looked great, but I just needed to blend some rough edges. Well, I used the regular soft round brush and it was horrible. Everything became so smooth and plastic. I ended up with some sort of creepy bot person and I wanted to cry. I'm sorry if this story darkens your day, it definitely darkened mine lol
Ha oh man! Those are stories told around a campfire in the dead of the night. Yeah you have to be careful with the soft round brush.. it can turn on you in an instant!
Thank you so much for the tutorial! I was having major troubles with blending the shades, they were looking awful until I saw this video. And now its looking pretty good. Thanks a lot!
Thank you SO much for sharing your brushes! That was incredibly kind of you. I cant wait to give these a try and try blending like this - i think my art will take a huge step forward and this is what i have been needing.
So started watching this because I've felt SUPER down about my abilities as an artist lately. To where I can't bring myself to work on commissions. I just feel so sad and ready to quit illustrating all together. I feel like I have to go back to the absolute beginning. I have to literally force myself to draw Then he said "and then I'll start massaging the shadow". I automatically felt a little better
OMG! Your work is amazing! I have been looking for such tutorials for a very long time. I had a big problem with color mixing. Finally, I can learn to draw correctly! Thanks !!!
You are so talented and awesome. I am trying to learn how to draw, it's kinda hard especially because I've never worked in any drawing program, I always drew with a pencil. Hopefully with years of practice I will reach your level, you are my inspiration !
I feel like I needed this tutorial because I've been having so much trouble with photoshop's smudge tool; and the mixer brush tool is hard to get used to. I might try this out. Thank you!
What is the number of dg_main brush.... Coz when i loaded d brush pack in preset it doesn't showing names of brush.. Only numbers... So... Help me wid it!
Out of curiosity, how do you practice controlling pen pressure? I've seen one or two tutorials that all basically say the same thing - to draw a bunch of parallel lines, over and over every day, practicing making the lines thicker or thinner as you draw them. Any other methods for improving this valuable skill that you know of?
Love your style ! Still learning digital painting, but i have a question : how do you "hide" the line art and make them basically invisble? you know, a more "realistic" look, like your, whitout the black line. And does this type of coloring have a specific name which I can search for and learn? ty ^^ subbed
I've actually heard that a ton. I never saw that character before but there is definately something there. I was more inspired by the cast of Vikings for this one.
Wait I'm still here. Also.. He saw this comment before the anime came out, wait til he searches Giorno Giovanna now that its out, just wow!! Ok I'm done now I swear.
Hi Dave! thanks so much for this lesson and for the brushes! Would you like to do a blending tutorial on materials in different textures? thanks! PD: D&D
Thank you so much for this video ! And also for making your brushes available for free ! It's very kind of you :) I was so sad to see that the BG_MAIN is not like yours on my Photoshop :( There is something I don't get with imported brushes sometimes, it's very frustrating 😅
Hello Dave, and thanks for the useful video and brushes. I like very much your main DG brush you use in the video, but I have some issues while using it for blending. What are your pen pressure settings? I noticed that if I keep pressure set on the "light" option (Wacom settings) I have stripes while blending, whereas if I turn it to normal, I basically never reach max pressure and so I never have filled brush strokes (I always have textured marks). Best. Dui

I think you have to paint on the lineart in 1 layer and not really, its digital painting
Is it just me or does the picture looks like Giorno Giovanna?

I hope one day to get as good as you!!
You will trust me!
Can you point me in the direction of the brush you used in this? I'm new to digital art and want to try all the blending brushes I can find.
