Love it! If only this style of content creation was sustainable, I would love to see more of it. I love my videos to be about 45 minutes or more (no upper limit either imo)
I remember watching a long analysis video of red dead redemption 2 before, I think it was Noah Caldwell, and it was great, it went throught a lot of the details you did in a similar way but, yours is as good of a take as it can be, and from a viewpoint I can get behind easier, a humanistic point of view. So, I think you're up there with other great and sucessful large-format videos, you hit the gold standard in my book. Thank you very much for this.
I’m only 22 mins in and I know with toddler and lawyer life it’ll take me a few days to finish the video. But damn dude. You’re my favorite channel on RUclips. You can make ANYTHING thoroughly engaging. Such a thoughtful approach to life. Dude thank you for this channel. Also “lost art of nuanced opinion in a RUclips video” had me howling.
If you're interested, these are my 2 favourite easy-ish recipes I've made: Chicken Curry 900g (2 pounds) chicken breast, cut into cubes (or just a pack or two of chicken thighs), 2 onions, 3 garlic cloves, 1 tablespoon grated ginger, 3 tablespoons vegetable oil, 2 tablespoon curry powder, 1.5 teaspoons salt, .5 teaspoon black pepper, 4 large tomatoes, chopped, 1 can coconut cream/milk • In a large pan heat oil. Add chopped onions and sauté until golden, over medium-low heat. stir occasionally. • When onions are golden add grated garlic and ginger. Stir and cook for 2 minutes. • Add chopped tomatoes and cook, stirring occasionally, until soft. • Add curry powder and cook, stirring, for 2 minutes. • Add chicken breast, season with salt and pepper, cook for 5 minutes, until golden. • Cover the pan and cook for 2-3 minutes more. • Add water, cover and cook 10 minutes. • Add coconut milk/cream, season with garam masala and salt, stir, and cook until lightly thickens. Coriander, chopped - for garnish, ½ teaspoon garam masala (optional). All the stirring and making it and having to wash your hands if you touch the chicken make it an attention synch, but a good one to clear your head. If you make the rice (or whatever you're having with it) during the "cover for 10 minutes" stage it will save you time. One Pan Roasted Chicken 4-5 Sliced Potatoes (or 2-3 cans), 1-2 packs chicken thighs, 1 large onion, cut into large chunks, 5-6 tablespoons olive oil, divided , 5-6 garlic cloves (Can be a bit much), 1 teaspoon dried oregano, fresh Rosemary , 1 teaspoon dried thyme , 1.5 teaspoons paprika, 1 teaspoon garlic powder, 1 teaspoon Salt , 1 teaspoon Black pepper, 1 tablespoon lemon juice , 1/2 teaspoon Cumin • In a large bowl mix olive oil and all the spices. Place chicken in the bowl and mix until well coated. Cover the bowl and marinate for at least 1 hour (marinating makes the dish). • Preheat oven to 425°F (220°C). Prepare a large baking pan or baking sheet. Set aside. • Cut potatoes into quarters. Place in pan, add salt, rosemary and olive oil, toss all together. • Add marinated chicken, whole garlic cloves (with the peel), onion chunks and few more rosemary branches. • Cover with tinfoil and roast for about 1 hour, until chicken is fully cooked and potatoes are golden brown. (varies depending on oven. I usually add about 20 minutes and leave it in the oven to cool.) It's a pretty good one to make when you have to do other things and are home since after you make it the first time the process becomes turn on oven, mix stuff, wait an hour, mix stuff, put in oven, wait an hour. I've made veggie versions of both recipes by substituting cauliflower for the chicken.
Glad to hear someone else think Micah is poorly written. I think he's the sole flaw in the writing because it's just not believeable that he was able to stay in the gang with the way he is and acts throught the story. They should have made him more useful to the group to justify why we keep him around and leave the more overtly antagonistic responses and actions in chapter 6 and maybe 4.
I think the issue is that they did too good a job of making him unlikable. At a certain point it feels odd that otherwise savvy members of the gang don't notice how unhinged and untrustworthy he is.
Great video - really - but I can't help pointing out you missed something *big* - nature doesn't kill Arthur, it only provides the gun, it's still his life of crime that pulls the trigger, so to speak. See, Arthur contracting TB is a *direct consequence* of his life of crime - it happens in one of the early-game loanshark missions. He beats the crap out of a guy in the late stages of TB, and during the altercation the dude coughs blood right in his face; most players don't realize until seeing it again on a second playthrough, but that's the moment Arthur's fate is sealed. That widow turning to sex work you talked about during the possible attempted redemption arc after the diagnosis? She's one of the most important characters in the story - see, that guy Arthur caught TB from was her husband. On a high-honor playthrough, when he helps her, Arthur is trying to atone for the *specific* sin that is now killing him.
HELL yeah!! I could barely believe that anyone can make me care about a Rockstar game. That's that EmceeProphIt touch! :] Looking forward to what you do next!
Have been following you for years now and I always liked your analysis videos. RDR 2 is a game that never left me. It left such a big impression on me that I wish I could erase my memory and just experience it again for the first time. After the death of my mother (she had lung cancer) in November this year the story of RDR 2 hits even harder. My mother only had two and a half months from diagnosis to her death and the time was full of reminiscing about the past, ignorance and frustration - sometimes even hate - but also so much love, compassion and hope - so I really can relate to Arthur, now even more than before. It's a timeless game for all ages: If you are young you can learn a lot and if you are a little bit older (and more jaded) you... well, you still learn a lot. And you can see yourself in these fleshed-out characters, sometimes more than you like... Man, if Rock* could just create a GTA with the depth of RDR 2 - but I fear they never will. Love your videos and I hope you never stop making them. You rock!
This comment really made my night, thank you. And I agree, it's a very cathartic story in a lot of ways, and really makes me sit down and think about the good the bad and the ugly in my own life, and in my country's history.
thank you for doing this long review on RDR2. I always wanted to know what this game was about and I'm glad to have watched you talking about the story and characters in your unique way. also I'm glad to see more of you
@@EmceeProphIt Thankyou brotha, When I'm fully done with this video I'll comment again on my thoughts, I love red dead, It will forever be engraved in my brain, and I couldn't be happier to see you covering it, Red dead in a way mirrors Gta IV where the game will actively teach the player life lessons if the player allows it and I love them for it.
Just about done with the video, and I'm amazed that you think that's one of the only times you've cried during a game, lol  I do it all the damned time  Honestly, really great video that's super rewardingly concise. Normally, I don't get much out of longform critiques that have already been tackled by people like Noah Caldwell Gervais. But this more than stands on its own, and doesn't waste my time. And for me, I think it's telling that the only things that got me thinking "Nah, that's whack." are your views on GTA V's driving, and the quality of some of the game systems in RDR2. But your range in regards to RDR2's gameplay is something I had to keep in perspective, since you mentioned you feel it bottoms out at mediocre. Which I still disagree with at least in regards to things like the core combat and such... but is fair. I'm someone who played it (and every Rockstar game) without the lock-on though, which I think makes a *massive* difference to the value of their mechanical choices with the shooting. Like, the long reloads, and the zooming reticle accuracy thing and such matter *way* more when you can't just hold a lock on button to stay on target after you miss a shot. It gives the slower paced, clunkier combat have far more stakes, and makes each decision have more value. And it stacks on top of things like the low stamina weapon sway and other similar effects. But yeah, overall a super rewarding video!
is the ex slaver hunter meant to be a reflection of main character's inherent selfish denial desire for not wanting to loose their way of life as the time changes?
Great longform vid. I think it came out great, letting yourself give analysis and examples the time and space they need is important, and I think you struck a good balance and kept up a good pace here. I haven't played RDR2 myself but I've watched a few playthroughs and you really nailed what makes the game so engaging even as an observer as opposed to a player; the story and characterizations are phenomenal; complex, moving, and yes, mature in a way that comparable games of the style don't really do. RDR2 doesn't play its violence and tragedies for shock value, and they're all the more effective because they feel like they have weight within the world (for the most part, repetitive gunfights with innumerable bandits/randos/gendarmes aside). Just watching the game, even watching it /second hand/ through some of the clips you chose really made me feel what Rockstar were trying to get across. (Also from a production standpoint, don't think the well-listened missed your background music references! I caught your Mario Sunshine track during the optional games, the OFF track when discussing the topic of redemption, and the P5 track when you talked about being the "hero" within the context of the game but the villain in the game's reality - all fitting choices!)
absolutely amazing video, well worth the length, it is interesting how Rockstar is capable of this level of storytelling while still being the ones behind GTA as a series, I still remember playing Red Dead Redemption even when I am not a fan of open world games, and feeling like that oneactually stroke a note really high with me, so the fact that this game manages to reach all this does not completely comes out of the blue but it feels notably interesting.
1:18:36 well that the very real criticism of the first 2 terminator movies.. we as a species invest too much time , money , effort and progress into creating machines and tools to kill each other. which is why in does movies the grim riper is the personification of those tool in skynet and the terminator. the war of judgment aint against the machines but against the machines of war.
I'm right alongside your opinion about Rockstar and gameplay. As far as writing goes, I think their main problem is maintaining tone, but the original Red Dead Redemption was better in that regard than most of their work. Maybe I'll check out the sequel one of these days, if I find the time. Which I won't.
Love the content. Can't wait for more of the Zelda retrospective series (hopefully a skyward sword chapter), been watching for years now keep up the good work. The pacing and format are really nice its great to listen to.
I also did not think Rockstar was capable of making earnest, emotionally vulnerable games until I played Red Dead Redemption 1 and 2, and now I want them to make more.
Oi glad to see you making another video! Not sure if i can actually watch it because i havent played it yet, but still wanted to say im proud of your hard work!
Odd question, but have you ever thought about doing a panel at a convention? Sounds out of pocket, but I went to youmacon in Detroit last year and much to my surprise, Quentin reviews did a panel there, one in which he could show any visuals because the screen hook up wasn’t working and he was the only panelist who showed up for a four panel presentation on lost media. Needless to say he talk a little about the topic and some on his channel. But the turn out was way more then they expected. And a group of college students had a panel for the best trees in anime sooo, I do think it’s that hard to get a slot. TLDR I would love to come to a panel of yours talking about a deap dive into a game or game topic and I love your stuff. Been here since 2013 and hope to see more of your great stuff in the future!! ❤
Brilliant as per usual. You've come a long way from the Majora Panalasys. For a slight shorter future video, any chance of your thoughts on Signalis or Tactics Ogre?
I gave RDR2 a fair shake, must have played it for around 10 hours and only got 2% of the way through it. The repetitive gameplay got tedious for me but honestly the main thing that made me quit was having to mash the X button to sprint. As far as I could tell there was no way to change this in the options menu so I consider it objectively bad design to force the player to hurt their hand and risk RSI just to move at top speed.
Yeaaaah Let's get this video to a lot of views in the first hour so that it gets love from youtube Algorithm bless this video which i liked even before watching it because it's that good Seriously, sometimes i end up pissed off because i can't like it again after watching it, fix that youtube Lots of words lots of engagement, yadda yadda
I'm super late to this party, but better late then never I guess. Suppose I'll start on my thoughts so far and I'll edit accordingly as I continue later. 1. I've seen some gameplay through my boyfriend when he plays this game. Mostly he hunts around, but regardless I still enjoyed just how zen the game was. Even if I wasn't the one playing, watching the gorgeous landscapes as they change, the various animals, even the cities that popped up when he dropped off kills was incredibly zen. So no I don't think the slow pace is detriment for me. Maybe for my boyfriend but to be fair I haven't asked. Might send him this video later, see what he thinks. 2. Character morality being gray for yourself and others works wonders in this game. That much I can agree on. And yes while this is very much the best franchise Rockstar has made in terms of morality, it's not the only good one with commentary on it. Manhunt actually has a surprising amount to say when you look passed all the violence and death. Max Derrat has a video of his own going in depth about the particular philosophy the game is commenting on. 3. In terms of history and how this game doesn't shy away from the dark aspects of it. I honestly respect it greatly for that and the stances the devs in turn take. Though I must say the various ghosts are what I initially knew about as prime examples of the permanence of time and how one's actions can affect so many for better or worse. The hardest hitting ghost to me is that poor girl who was locked into the outhouse of her home. You can hear her crying in there and pleading with her Pa at night. You can also come across the tree her lover was hung at by her Pa, who initially lied to the poor girl, saying he'd run out on her if memory serves. Been a while since I watched Mullet Mike's Creepy Gaming episode on Red Read 2. Also mad respect for Arthur not saying much of anything about the witch/pagan stuff he finds. Sure it's a bit weird and kind of offputting sometimes, even I can understand that(being a witch myself whose spooked friends with scarily accurate tarot readings). But at the same time he doesn't openly condemn them like he does the serial killer of the game, or that guy who's trying to make a weird pig chimera thingy in his house. 4. In terms of the whole presentism argument, I'm largely ignorant of it. Maybe it's because I don't really engage at all on Reddit, mostly stay in one corner of Tumblr, or because I'm in the south and just haven't heard it anywhere here. But to the misuse of it to try and say we shouldn't discuss this stuff ever I say this. Those who do not learn from history, are only doomed to repeat it. Those who thus ignore their history without even a glance back, ultimately may find themselves reliving the hells they once brushed off. That's just my take tho, as ill-informed on the term in question as I may be. 5. Saint Denis actually makes me wonder what my hometown used to look like before all those long forgotten fires kept taking it out. It still exists, but really the 'main street' isn't much of anything but a glorified relic at best. Especially as the old owners of those establishments die off and replace what was there. The old grocery store that was always there, even as I grew up, is now a dispensary. We never went to that store, but it felt a little sad seeing that old place change in such a way. Same can be said of other places I know of too like Eureka Springs. Yeah there's some real dark history there, but the place is still lovely and at least has tourism to keep the old buildings alive and standing. Even as their shops change ownership or go out of business to make way for modern businesses instead. Nothing we can really do about it, and honestly that's kinda sad in a way. My hometown doesn't really remember it's history beyond bare minimum, and we're so spread out now that no one really interacts out here. Country towns, only tight knit folks are those in the main street area. Eureka Springs meanwhile built a whole tourism identity for itself to keep the history alive. But at the cost of locals likely being heavily annoyed or inconvenienced by constant tourists. And their town though most of the historical buildings still stand, is slowly but surely modernizing too. I better quit rambling about that before I get anymore sad about it. Anyway, back to the vid. 6. Your thoughts on Arthur Morgan and why he's your favorite, also apply to Death from the Darksiders franchise for me. A guilt ridden man who did a LOT of horrible shit in his life, now killing people the Charred Council tells him to and he has to just not question too much for his own sanity. But when he's not doing Council work, just doing his own thing(see Darksiders 2) he does question things more. He takes his time helping people, even if he does get some benefit from it in game. But he doesn't always ask for rewards, sometimes it's just an addition for his deed or he just does it because he genuinely cares about the person he's doing it for. Even if he can be a tiny bit Tsundere about it. He even does things some might call honorable, only for Death to downplay it by saying honor is a fool's prize. He feels he isn't honorable despite doing some genuinely good things from time to time. Even asking people who see through the facade, to keep it to themselves. 7. The Sister is a lovely character. Never saw her when my boyfriend played the game but, rarely do I see such a proper woman of faith in any media. Perhaps if more folks like her were in churches these days, I might go to one. May not be a Christian or anything else but, who's to say a witch like me can't hope to find comfort in such places. Instead of quietly fearing them or just not feeling welcome in churches. Funny how the only church I've truly felt welcome in, was one that had no left in it. Nothing but an old wooden church being used as a piece of an attraction in the mountains. Funny how that place is the only church I've ever felt welcome in, or like I fit in there. Wonder why that is. Anyway getting close to end now, let's see if I come up with anything else before I close out this rambling lol. Sorry not sorry btw. 8. Ok last thing now. The music and particularly the vocal tracks of the ending are truly lovely. Arthur may not have always done good, but he sure as hell did try to do it anyway. John may not have lived the long life Arthur would've likely hoped for, but at least he'll be meeting his brother again. Wherever they may end up, whatever plane of existence their souls reside in. Not all partings are forever after all. Video characters they may be, I like to imagine they found peace at the very least, and each other soon after that. Welp that's the end of my spiel. Now to completely finish the video itself. Good day everyone and blessed be. For those who cared to look through this big mess of text, hope you enjoyed.
overall i like RDR2 my only problems with it is it doesn't let you experience all of it's characters dialogue you can miss really good cutscenes if you focus on the missions the other thing i don't like is that the combat feels like max payne where you wipe out whole army's of outlaws and soldiers it just doesn't feel right for a game about cowboys in the dying wild west, what I'd like for a sequel would be a there will be blood version of RDR where you play as a businessman having to deal with outlaws religion competitors corporations natives and the US government
Yes actually. I'm think of doing that next time I'm in a western RPG mood! Currently in kind of a JRPG mood, doing a review of Yakuza: Like a Dragon right now.
This is definetely a HUGE comeback XD

Thank you for the feedback, super encouraging! :D
definitely a BIG comeback
congrats on pulling it off!!! 🎉🎉🎉
absolutely amazing video, well worth the length, it is interesting how Rockstar is capable of this level of storytelling while still being the ones behind GTA as a series, I still remember playing Red Dead Redemption even when I am not a fan of open world games, and feeling like that oneactually stroke a note really high with me, so the fact that this game manages to reach all this does not completely comes out of the blue but it feels notably interesting.
Finally! Always wanted more ultra-long content from you.
Haven't played RDR2 yet but leaving a like and comment for the algorithm gods and throwing it into my Watch Later pile.
I'm right alongside your opinion about Rockstar and gameplay. As far as writing goes, I think their main problem is maintaining tone, but the original Red Dead Redemption was better in that regard than most of their work. Maybe I'll check out the sequel one of these days, if I find the time. Which I won't.
Beautiful Emcee your vids may be rare but I always tune in every time.
As a long time fan from the Zelda analysis, ff7 let's play (queen Latifa), & metrics prime vidoes so excited for this one.
Awesome execution on this video!
Love the content. Can't wait for more of the Zelda retrospective series (hopefully a skyward sword chapter), been watching for years now keep up the good work. The pacing and format are really nice its great to listen to.
Thank you! I'm glad you enjoy.
I plan on talking more about Zelda at some point. It's been long enough for it to feel fresh again.
@@EmceeProphIt Let's gooooo!! Seriously though you do amazing work and I love putting it on while working.
That's my goal, so happy to hear it! :D@@mtgpro1238
I also did not think Rockstar was capable of making earnest, emotionally vulnerable games until I played Red Dead Redemption 1 and 2, and now I want them to make more.
We can only hope. Red Dead 3 is coming eventually.
Oi glad to see you making another video! Not sure if i can actually watch it because i havent played it yet, but still wanted to say im proud of your hard work!
Thank you bro! For what it's worth I don't get into major spoilers until more than halfway through.
Fantastic video, and you have actually pulled me out of a dark funk of fear.
Congratulations, and thank you very very much. 😊
Thank you, and I hope things look up for you!
good work, love your game videos hope you are well
He's baaaaack- Holy shit, that's damn near three hours!!!
It's good to be back! :D
I love this, but I gotta say - a new Zelda video from You would be the most amazing thing ever.
Brilliant as per usual. You've come a long way from the Majora Panalasys. For a slight shorter future video, any chance of your thoughts on Signalis or Tactics Ogre?
Magnificent as always
I just started replaying this game like a week ago are you in my walls
Using my RUclips algorithm magic on this gem!
As someone with chronic hand pain, I feel this lol.
Leaving a comment for the algorithm gods ❤
Let's freaking goooo!!!
Just in time for dinner too
Speaking of redemption. You did well.
PS- You don't need luck. Just do you buddy
Damn, I really hope I get to play this game now, because it's really not what I thought it would be~
Yeaaaah
Let's get this video to a lot of views in the first hour so that it gets love from youtube
Algorithm bless this video which i liked even before watching it because it's that good
Seriously, sometimes i end up pissed off because i can't like it again after watching it, fix that youtube
Lots of words lots of engagement, yadda yadda
Love u man
overall i like RDR2 my only problems with it is it doesn't let you experience all of it's characters dialogue you can miss really good cutscenes if you focus on the missions the other thing i don't like is that the combat feels like max payne where you wipe out whole army's of outlaws and soldiers it just doesn't feel right for a game about cowboys in the dying wild west, what I'd like for a sequel would be a there will be blood version of RDR where you play as a businessman having to deal with outlaws religion competitors corporations natives and the US government
Can’t tell you this was worth your time but it sure was worth mine
LETS FUCNING GO
You everythining of doing a pathfinder wrath of the righteous full review
Yes actually. I'm think of doing that next time I'm in a western RPG mood! Currently in kind of a JRPG mood, doing a review of Yakuza: Like a Dragon right now.
Good luck 🙂👍
Why don't your videos appear in my subscription feed anymore?😢
