Talli Faye, we are Texas women. We didn’t grow up eatin’ Tomato Pie. My mother probably never heard of it. I’m so happy to try this. I’m like you, I’ve wanted to try this for a long time. I’m going to find some good fresh tomatoes and make one. THANK YOU ❤

I’ve been making Tomato Pie for several years. I pretty much use the same ingredients I just layer them rather than mixing. I put the mayo in the bottom of the baked pie crust. We love this recipe. Louisiana
That's funny. I've been in Texas all my life, and I've eaten plenty of tomato pies for the past fifty years. 😊Texas really is like a whole other country. Some people are familiar with a food that a whole other group in the same state never even heard of. Tomato pie reminds me of deep dish cheese pizza.
that video was so much fun, you shouldn't worry about long videos, yours are always interesting and easy to follow. No I have never had tomato pie but I have seen it made. Now I absolutely want to try it. So happy I found your channel.
I made tomato pie for the first time last year. It is wonderful! I've lived in Arkansas all my life. This must be an old time deep south like Georgia, Mississippi, and Alabama dish. But I will definitely make it again. Have you ever made tomato gravy? It is wonderful too. It is an old Southern recipe. Make a roux like you would for homemade white gravy, some add onions bur some don't, add peeled and chopped fresh tomatoes (or can use canned tomatoes with juice) after roux is ready, stir well, add milk and thicken, add seasonings. It is great over biscuits! Try and see if you like it. HAHA, don't be afraid. There are a lot of recipes on tomato gravy that vary. Google and you will see. I love your videos and personality. Keep on cooking. Nancy from Arkansas
Girl seeing those beautiful tomatoes made me think about Dovie and her apron with her salt shaker in her garden harvesting and eating tomatoes right off the vine.
I have heard of tomato pie, but never ate it. My Mama never made it and I don't know why because she loved tomatoes. I love tomatoes, and now that I know this recipe is delicious, I'll give it a try. I'm so proud you brought us this one and I can't wait for the second one. Thank you for your prayers, and God bless y'all. I love you and your sweet personality, Ms. Talli. God is good all the time!
Oh and btw: after seeing your bacon press a few weeks ago, i just had to have one. Lol Hi Talli, That pie looked delicious. I love your longer videos. We love ya girlie. ❤️ Take it easy sweetie. God bless you.
Oh Talli ,my anticipation waiting for you to try the tomato pie was all worth it . Your face at first like Hmmm, then when it hit your taste buds your eyes got bright and you wanted another bite ,Lol Wonderful video …. Have a blessed weekend and can’t wait for tomato pie #2
Hi Talli Faye 😊. I made what I called a tomato onion tart a while back. I didn't use a recipe. I just did what I knew would be good. I'm not scared! I didn't use the bacon, mayo or the Italian seasonings. I didn't have that many tomatoes so I didn't dry them in the oven. It was absolutely delicious. I am very sure yours is better. Just a very different pie. How can you go wrong with bacon and mayo. Thank you for another great video!
I have been eating tomato pie for many years. There are many recipes out there. This looks delicious! My recipe calls for mozzarella and parmesan with basil and garlic. Your pie turned out beautiful and it looks delicious!
Talli Faye looks delicious!! I always take my crust out of oven few mins early brush a egg yolk/ milk wash on bottom stick it back in oven until baked shiny. It makes a protective barrier for the yummy tomatoes. Prevents your crust from getting soggy😊
Hey Talli Faye, I hadn't heard of tomato pie either until last year. It was on another RUclips channel and the lady on there is from Alabama. So it must be an eastern southern U.S. dish🤠 They're very versatile in what you can use for your cheeses snd seasonings. I fell in love with it with the first bite. It's even good left over cold the next day.....if there is any. Thanks for pie #1. Looking forward to pie #2 !!
I believe it is an eastern south thing. I never heard of tomato pie until I moved to South Carolina. Using fresh basil and shredding your own cheese is key.
@@NewEnglnd-kk9zz I agree. I have used homegrown dried basil my daughter gave me and it's really good if there's no fresh basil. But fresh is best if its available.
Hi Talli Faye, it's Tracey in San Antonio. I never heard of a tomato pie either but it sounds great. I also like trying new recipes. I love the feeling I get when it comes out delicious and a crowd pleaser. Don't be scared, right.😂😂 Love you to pieces and keep bringing us good country cooking.💜💜
You had my mouth watering just looking at those tomatoes. Here where I live we eat tomato sandwiches. Just slather mayonnaise on two slices of bread and sprinkle salt and pepper on the tomatoes. That is pure heaven. I have had tomato pie before and I love it. My husband on the other hand will not touch it. There's not a thing in it that he doesn't like it is just the fact that they are together. He is a sweet man but weird when it comes to what he will eat. I love your channel and you!!!
I have been eating tomato pie since the 70s when we found the recipe in the farmers market bulletin. I remember making it with my momma. The simple easy way. Pie crust pre baked a little. Add your drained sliced tomatoes on bottom of pie shell. Sprinkle with salt and pepper. Crumble bacon. (Add fresh sliced favorite hot pepper if you want.) Add your mix of mayonnaise and cheese over top. Bake until bubbly brown. Back in the old days it didn’t call for all the Italian spices here in Georgia. Your pie looks delicious I will try it that way.
You are so fantastic!! I am addicted to your channel. Your recipes and you take me back to my childhood. I hope you are still working on your cookbook. You could have a whole encyclopedia of cookbooks.
I love Tomato pie Talli Faye, I have that same recipe but mine also has 4oz. Or 1/2 block of room temp. Cream cheese also mixed in with the other ingredients ! So delicious and so simple , it’s a depression. Era recipe and can be used as a meal, or as a breakfast , or as a dessert ! It’s delicious warm , room temp or chilled !! Some people put a dollop of mayo on top when serving it to add creaminess , I’ve eaten plain and with the mayo dollop and both ways are good ! I’m glad you and your honey loves it !! During the winter you can use drained canned tomatoes you just have to drain them well and salt them down like you did and. Bake them like you did but about 5 minutes longer and let them dry out a little and proceed with the recipe it will take about 3-4 , 14-15oz cans of drained tomatoes to make a pie but it will taste just as good as long as you get them drained well !! I’m glad you enjoyed the tomato pie 👏👏👏!! God bless ❤️🙏🙋🏻🌈🌈
I’m in central Mississippi and I just heard of tomato pies 2 years ago. Yes, I don’t think you can go wrong with any variation. They are good . Luv y’all
