Here's my personal take - I think she likes creating controversy, or she's been instructed to create controversy, even if she has evidence to prove otherwise. Why do I believe this? Monica Mcnutt is assuming, like others, that ALL the new Clark fans know nothing about basketball, or any sports for that matter. Of course the ROY is in no way determined by how well the rookie's team performs. In fact, many sport analysts debate how much weight should be given to a team's record/place in standings when considering an MVP recipient. Clearly, the league completely disagrees since Aliyah Boston was ROY last year and her team was the worst in the league. Perhaps she is just trying to keep some controversy alive on the topic so they can keep returning to it in order to capture viewer attention? Any sports fan knows it was an absurd statement.
I'm retired From coaching collegiate track and field since 1978. If you coach that long you are able to observe physical capabilities of athletes. I never watched the WNBA or the women's NCAA March madness. Well I live one state over from Iowa and then unless you're brain dead you have heard of Caitlin Clark so I watch last year's NCAA final that was the only game and this year never watched a regular season game I only watch March madness and I followed Caitlin Clark and Iowa through the bracket. Now the NFL hasn't started yet An unbelievably I find myself watching WNBA games. I watch Caitlin Clark games but I'm also watching other games that she's not in but some of the best players are in and I wouldn't be doing that if it wasn't for Caitlin Clark.

Interesting story I had a heptathlete black girl from TC Williams high school remember the Titans. Indoors we shared the facility with volleyball Now this girl was about 6 foot 3 maybe 6 foot 4. We were getting a little tired of the volleyballs rolling over onto our track. So she grabbed one of the volleyballs and looked at me and said watch this coach and she took that volleyball and two hand slam dunk that thing on one of the side goals grabbed onto the rim flipped it up. Volleyball practice came to They stop as they turn to see what the hell just happened. So my question is yes it was a volleyball but that was the ball that she had why is there no one in the WNBA that can dunk?

I can understand the comments from women basketball players and coaches about CC. They are a bit afraid of her, hence the guarding her almost on the entire pitch, and when she approaches the 3-point line, sometimes two or even three opponents try to guard her in panic. In such a situation, the athletes's or coaches statements are, to some extent, a kind of sports psychological war that CC must learn to deal with. But what the media and WNBA officials are doing is simply a scandal. Instead of objectivity and reliable analysis, this kind of ideological madness is not only harmful to CC, but also to basketball and sports at all.

Last year Boston of the fever got ROTY on a fever team with a record of 13-27 not in the playoffs.
One thing that drives me crazy in evaluating players, is to declare that a player must have won a team championship (usually at the highest level, like NCAA for college, Super Bowl, World Series, NBA/WNBA FInals, World Cup, Stanley Cup, etc. for pros) to be considered the greatest player in whatever sport they play, in a specified period of time. To me, that's absurd. But the common consensus seems to be that it makes sense.
We have an example in Caitlin Clark, who broke nearly every record, and won nearly every award possible in NCAA Div. I basketball, including Player of the Year, which indicates she was the greatest player in college basketball, in 2023 and 2024. Yet most people say she can't be considered the greatest because Iowa didn't win the NCAA Championship in those years. That's ridiculous to me. It's apples and oranges.
First of all, there is no such thing as the Greatest of All Time (GOAT), because that is indeterminant; "all time" has not yet occurred. All you can determine is who is the Greatest (player) Of Their Era (GOTE), or of a particular year. You determine that a player is the greatest of their era (GOTE) based upon their individual accomplishments (commonly judged by their stats), not based upon their team's accomplishments (commonly judged by winning a championship). Furthermore, if individual awards (like GOTE player) are to be given, they are, by definition, not team awards (like GOTE team), and vice versa. In summary, I have no respect for people who believe a player cannot be judged as the GOTE player unless their team won a championship (the GOTE team). Those are two separate awards, judged by different criteria as specified above.

The Fever WAS above the sun a couple of weeks ago, but McNutt was still saying Angel Reese. People have their favorites, and they create the narrative to support it. Just having TWO Rookies in contention is such a fantastic bonus for the league. Personally, I’d split it. I can’t recall a time when there wasn’t a run- away winner, and this year, we had really 3 potential contenders, one making the Olympic 3x3 team prior to the injury.
