I went to China in 1992, stayed for two years, met my wife while being a guest on her radio show, and never looked back (We ended up producing our own radio show together). Before I clicked the video, I thought it would be another China travel video that foreigners make on RUclips, to show how advance, how convenient, how different from what they previously imagined. instead I watched a wonderful documentary that left me in tears. You are a great story teller, showing my country in a most genuine, unfiltered and human way. The video is beautiful, in every way. For that I want to say thank you.

This was really lovely to watch. I lived in China for 6 years and documented my time there with my husband. Our favourite videos that we made were the ones where we met people and had a connection with them, so this resonated a lot. Everyone we crossed paths with was so friendly and excited to show us around their hometowns and give us recommendations.
I don't do it very often, but when I see a god-tier video I download it, just incase the internet happens to like shut down because of a... i don't know, an apocalypse or something. I think we lean a bit too heavily on this little web i'm afraid. Anyways, all of this just to say: I downloaded this video :)

this video had me crying by the end of it...I'm chinese, but adopted and grew up in america since I was like 1 year old and never got to experience any chinese culture. getting to see this raw beauty of 3 different chinese cities and individuals through great story telling just made me so emotional. Not quite sure why haha. I'm planning on going to china next year and I just feel like im gonna cry when i get there now
You must go! Once you stand on the land where you were born, touch those mountains and rivers which have thousands of years history, close your eyes, imagine your ancestor how survived and growed in this land, you will be crying!
This made me cry, China is ranked number 1 on my list of countries that I wanna experience but it is unfortunately not that easy right now for me to go there. I can at least live through you and see the beauty & love in those peoples life. Thank you my dude for bringing these stories to the world
@@LoosSerine I don't mind you asking at all :) No my nationality is not the issue, its too expensive and the distance is also relatively long. Lastly there isn't a lot of time left for traveling right now, sooo I gotta wait and visit other countries that are closer.
@@hanshanson7156If you go to some of the other cities in China its a lot cheaper. Shanghai when I went was full of designer stores and was very expensive but places like Chongqing are much better in pricing
@@hanshanson7156 The prices have drastically dropped in the past year or so. I don't know exactly where you are but for example from the UK, it's all sub-£500 return with BA and US routes are all now opening up. Same for Europe. Depending on the country, you could already have 15 days landing visa.
Nice! I've been living in Chengdu, China since 2018. Chengdu is neighbors too Chongqing. I am glad to see more and more youtubers coming here to show everyone what China is really like. Enjoy your stay
Chinese people have all the right to feel prideful, to the poorest nation after 1949 to the most advanced society of the 21st century. Years of struggle to build a socialist society after invasions, occupation and the fight for decolonization. It took sweat blood and tears of past generations but now the young ones are reaping the benefits. Long live the Chinese revolution.
Luke, you have improved so much as a storyteller and as a filmmaker and it is so amazing to see. Your cinematography and composition in this film is ABSOLUTELY INCREDIBLE. Your choice of music for each section is ASTOUNDING and I’m sure it reflected how you felt throughout the days of filming. And your editing for each of your individual journeys felt so singular and so unique, yet so connected. I am incredibly inspired by your work, and I hope you are so proud of this film. Congratulations on yet another successful project!
the direction on this is amazing, creating something so warm, natural AND with such artistic nature is impressive to anyone of any experience with this line of content
As a little teenage girl and a little bit depressed and after seeing your videos i found hope to do more things im my life , i am watching your each videos one by one or i can't stop my emotions . You're such a kindest human being i have ever seen or thank you for everything i learned so many things
Simply amazing! I cried every time you left your friend. Gypsy needs a whole documentary to himself. When he stepped out on the catwalk it was stunning. Tian is a gem. Sam's area brought me to tears; it's breathtaking. I'm sure you know how meaningful your experiences are. I traveled when I was younger. Maybe I should do it again... Regards from Indiana, a friend you just haven't met yet ;o)
With everything going in the world, Luke, you restore my faith in humanity and make me want to get out there and learn about someone completely different than me despite me having severe social anxiety loll Keep doing your thing on this very special corner of the internet
You should research what China is like through pages like China Fact Chasers, China Unscripted, China Uncensored, Business insider, seprentza, and laowhy. This is CCP approved Chinese propaganda
I felt like I was reading a book of short stories but in the best way possible. I loved getting to see 3 very different people living 3 very different lives but in such a short format. It really shows how every single person is unique and living completely different lives. no story is the same. Loved this one, Luke. another banger
What a great travelogue to China Luke. I hope more Americans like you travel to China like you do! . I am so impressed that you met them all online and reached out. If people from the West say there is no freedom in China, they should watch this travel episode. Gypsy’s house with all his art work is simply amazing…i am an artist in the US, i just can’t believe how great his art work is -full to the brim up to the ceilings! Plus he got to model, and he is a trans, how great is that-- he got full expression and acceptance! And friend in Chongqing she and her family were so wonderfully welcoming, so full of joy and appreciation of their lives. And your Yangzhou friend speaks such good English, and so good looking. Wow, i am so happy for you! You are an ambassador of peace! 👍👍👍🩷🩷🩷👍👍👍
CHONGQING IS KNOWN TO BE THE CAPITAL OF HOT MEN AND GAY IN CHINA, MANY MODELS ALSO CAME FROM THAT CITY. SO ANYONE WHO DO ARTS AND FASHION SHOULD PROBABLY VISIT SOMETIMES.
@@wewenang5167 thanks for that info. Looks like Gypsy lives in Shanghai . No matter, I am sure Shanghai is full on expressive artists and creative men, women, LGBT and no censures!
I'm from the West and lived there for 7 years. My very close Chinese friend had 15 days mandatory detention for a Weixin post. So yeah, you have freedom as long as you don't criticize the government.
Somehow this film makes me so emotional ... the people, the culture and everything! That's exactly what life is meant to be. Peacefull, open for everything and just heartwarming. Thank you very much for this beautiful gift of art! Keep it up bud!
These individuals are all so different and yet equally as beautiful. I will never understand people who want everyone to be the same. This film highlights three seemingly average stories and brings us into their respective narrative worlds. Each of them is so meaningful in their own way, and each of them has something to teach. Someday Luke, you will be so much bigger, and the voices you empower will help shape the future. From a fellow enjoyer of human beings and all of their respective worlds, thank you.
As a Chinese, I'd like to say this video shows the real lives about Chinese citizens. Even though, there are many things that the government still needs to improve but these visible development and some good things should be noticed.
Maaaan, this video is one of the most beautiful ones I've seen this year, liked the editing and the music choice, great storytelling, felt very real. Love your style Luke, I still remember you from when you were here in Perú, you've grown a lot. 🙌
Can’t believe you visited my hometown(Fangchenggang)I was born in China-Vietnam border, it’s a small town but beautiful i think, love this video, you did great ✨
Luke I love how you tell stories. You really have a genuine, warm way about you. Can’t wait to see where you go and what adventures you’ll be taking us on in the future. 😎
Of all the travel videos about China made by non-Chinese visitors, yours is the best. The content is unique, artistic, and the interactions are always with interesting Chinese people. Your editing is top-notch as well.🥰--chinese living in America
I love these kinds of videos because it reminds us that we are all people and we should always treat each other as such. It’s easy to dehumanize each other when we are not reminded that we all have things in common
Your videos are always so genuine and heartfelt. No flashy scenes, loud energy, or drama...just life - in its most pure and simplest moments. Noting people's lives, their stories and the beauty in the insignificance. Keep living life, keep connecting, and keep documenting it.
You have a knack for meeting the most amazing people. Love that your vids are not just travel vlogs but about really connecting characters, places and your audience. ✨👍🏼✨
I don't usually comment on videos but I really loved how you showed in such a simple and tender way the human connection and how all people are a little piece of the history of their societies
In fact, I am from Chongqing. I have been living in Chongqing for more than 20 years. If one day I really want to leave this place and live in another city, I will miss it all the time. 😢 I have witnessed the changes in the city skyline of Chongqing in the past 20 years. There is no doubt that this is a great city.just like she said:我爱你重庆,无论我以后走哪点去
I just clicked on your video for the first time and I’m immediately in love. The way you narrate, film and edit is like a breathe of fresh air. You can truly see the genuineness of the people you met and of yourself it made me feel grounded honestly and somewhat happy :) keep doing your videos. Amazing work!!
Did not expect to watch such an amazing story. Oh my gosh! I thought it would be just an introduction to the places in China, but your heartfelt story kept me going till the end. I get very distracted easily, but boy, this really kept me watching! I felt I've just come out from a mini cinema.
I can feel the love through your "story" telling, the raw emotion of Gypsy and the warmth of Tian"s and the family... I really love the stories reportage of yours so much! I think the real character of yours is accepted everywhere! keep the good work!
Late reply, but it truly, really is. I’m Chinese Canadian, and there’s so much I can say about the politics of China. In its current state, I don’t believe I could live there. But my god, when I go back and visit family, I’m reminded why I’m so proud to be the culture that I am. It’s a wonderful place to visit and I hope everyone has that chance.
It's so true, I visited recently but the first time I went and actually took it all in, I was 16 and I didn't realise everything was so advanced. The way they describe it in the media is actually so different to what it actually is and it's sad that they're scaring people away from visiting. It's disappointing of them tbh 😭
Wow Luke what a video! I grew up in China but your video made me see the country I grew up in from such a different perspective. Your storytelling is so beautiful and you made sure people’s voices are heard. Can’t wait to see your next adventure!
I just want to thank you for making these videos. It's so easy to see other countries and cultures as a collective an judge them as one, even though they aren't. I love how you cast light on individuals and let them share their life's with us. I couldn't stop smiling at the end. You give me hope at a time I thought I wouldn't find any. Thank you!
Wow. Just wow. This was amazing! The editing, the music, the way you captured the emotion and atmosphere of the places you traveled. All of your hosts were beautiful and seemed so genuine. I’m going to watch this a few more times right now.
love the spontaneity of Sam and you! all three of them seemed like such amazing individuals. that is why I truly believe there is no boring person, everyone has a story to tell. also, love the editing. the songs go SO WELL together.
I swear you are the most underrated RUclipsr out there. Such beautiful souls, captured with so much love. Thanks for another goosebump-inducing video, Luke. Love it!
I want to write something about this video, but I could not know where to start! You are a very genuine kind person, and all the people you met in China are so nice! Gypse is a talent!
This video brought out tears of happiness and restored my faith in people, it gave me back the desire to go out and discover the wonderful things that the world has to offer. The direction, the photography and the way you tell the story is simply beautiful and feels like a hug to the heart! It's just beautiful what I just saw. Thank u so so so so much for this!
i cried throughout the whole vid this is insane, u had a delicate way of showing human connections but without making it cheesy or too romantic. u def tricked me into watching this but i'm so glad i did and i'm thankful u shared those beautiful moments with us!
On a visual level, this film has a Lost in Translation vibe, but on a deeper level, nothing at all is lost in translation. Because you and your hosts truly connect as human beings.
what an incredibly shot video luke! every frame every sound each transition is so breathtaking! kudos to you :] edit: im moved to tears of wonder, beauty and possiblities
Luke, we really just are not worthy. You continue to deliver this absolute genius storytelling. These shots are insane and you have this uncanny way of synthesizing what you feel and experience into these brilliant, short-form masterpieces. Thank you again for what you do.
this video made me smiling for 15 minutes. thank you, Luke, for sharing the thoughts of these people and how it is really not difficult to be kind to other people
I’m not even done with the video and I’m in love with the way you filmed and edited this! The way you displayed their lives, their thoughts and your experience was amazing. Absolutely beautiful. This is life ✨
Thank you indeed for all the efforts! Somehow I cried over this mini-series of 3 touching stories in my country. Tears mean loving your storytelling I guess.
This film is beautiful. As I was indirectly meeting all of these people through you, I was thinking of the question “are people shaped by culture or is culture shaped by people?”. I am not sure but I think it might be both and I think I like the idea of humans being molded by culture and others over time. But more than that it shows how the basic emotions of humanity are included in every culture. Sadness, joy, adventure, love. Deep down we are all not very different Anyways, as someone who is not able to travel at this time in my life, I really enjoy your stories that you share, thank you :)
Wow your connection and road trip with Sam was out of the world, you showed it in such a great way like others your view of China has changed so many others view of China, great job mate
Luke Korns videos breath fresh life into me. Makes me remember that I can create and travel, that none of my problems can really stop me to delve into the world and my own passions. That you as a person are not limited by anything, and can literally do things that you want. The everlasting reminder that we eventually have to say goodbyes to things, and that in itself creates love, connection and appreciation for them. Thank you, Luke Korns, for existing and may the year 2024 be a blessing for you and people you love.

this video made me cry, I'm born in hong kong, and i realized i never really appreciate my mother country. in hong kong, the newer generations are surrounded by western media, always hearing propaganda against China. To make things even worse, i never really learnt anything about our history and china, as i was in a mostly english school and now an international school, meaning that 中史 (Chinese history) isn't one of my subjects. The only sources i have about china's government and people, are the media, and my parents (and you know kids, we dont believe our parents). i grew up not liking china, as my peers didnt too, mostly because of political reasons. but recently, ive been watching videos digging deeper into what china is actually like. i cried because i saw the people from my mother country with prejudice, thinking that i am superior just because of where im born. my view of them wont change by 180 degrees suddenly, but im certainly trying.

Not quite sure why haha. I'm planning on going to china next year and I just feel like im gonna cry when i get there now
Welcome to china!
欢迎你回家看看
WELCOME BACK HOME.
Thank you my dude for bringing these stories to the world
If you don't mind me asking, why is it not easy for you to go there? Is the visa quite difficult for your nationality to get?
@@LoosSerine In America many of us only got 2 weeks of annual leave.....I want to go to China too, but I prefer a month-long trip.
As a Choing qing born boy, my tears can't stop dropping when I hear Tion's words to my hometown. I love you Chongqing!😭
Nice! I've been living in Chengdu, China since 2018. Chengdu is neighbors too Chongqing. I am glad to see more and more youtubers coming here to show everyone what China is really like. Enjoy your stay
Wow you went through the tough covid time! Hats off to you
It was absolutely nuts, but I feel lucky because my wife is Chinese so we had her family to spend time with during it.@@wodemoshou
What led you to live in China?

Thank you, you have brought tear to my eyes.
This is the true China, true Chinese people.
Each and everyone has their own stories just like you.

Peacefull, open for everything
and just heartwarming.

Your videos restore my faith in humanity at least a little bit Luke, thank you.
The storytelling keeps getting better and better. It's authentic, raw, and most of all heartwarming.

You have a knack for meeting the most amazing people. Love that your vids are not just travel vlogs but about really connecting characters, places and your audience. ✨👍🏼✨
I always get so excited when Luke uploads. No other channel does that for me lol.

I don't usually comment on videos but I really loved how you showed in such a simple and tender way the human connection and how all people are a little piece of the history of their societies
Thank you Luke. This was a great insight into China and the lives of some of its people.
Thank you for capturing the beautiful emotions of Chinese people! ❤

Welcome to China, and that storytelling mode is mind blowing, love it, those music was so perfect btw
I want to visit China so badly. I feel like I can’t even say that in the US without people being weird about it, but it looks so beautiful.
Thank you!
It's odd someone soooo cool and confident feels he needs to hide. I really like Gypsy. Your "filmmaking" is impressive and really grabs you.
So cool to see you here!
your video is warm, simple and just right in ever single way, your profound understanding in human connection is what makes it soooo good
Wow. Just wow. This was amazing! The editing, the music, the way you captured the emotion and atmosphere of the places you traveled. All of your hosts were beautiful and seemed so genuine. I’m going to watch this a few more times right now.

i cried throughout the whole vid this is insane, u had a delicate way of showing human connections but without making it cheesy or too romantic. u def tricked me into watching this but i'm so glad i did and i'm thankful u shared those beautiful moments with us!
On a visual level, this film has a Lost in Translation vibe, but on a deeper level, nothing at all is lost in translation. Because you and your hosts truly connect as human beings.
Lost in translation is just a boring racist film about self absorbtion, using Japan as a prop background for self jerk white identity fantasy

Deep down we are all not very different
Anyways, as someone who is not able to travel at this time in my life, I really enjoy your stories that you share, thank you :)

Great job Luke. You are a true artist
this video made me cry, I'm born in hong kong, and i realized i never really appreciate my mother country. in hong kong, the newer generations are surrounded by western media, always hearing propaganda against China.
I try to tell my Asian friends this. I am Korean but I think they need a white person to show them.
