I spec'd this option on my BMW. The system will change lanes for you. Just tap the indicator in the direction of the lane change. If you fully engage the turn signal (past the resistance point) it will not change lanes. Great video!
Rolly, thank you for pointing this out. We were (cleary) unaware of this! As it turns out, as long as lane change assistant is checked off in the driver assistance settings, the car will change lanes for you when the driver presses the turn signal in the direction of the lane change without passing the resistance point. @@bmwofmorristown9038 I just bought a brand new 2023 x6m competition and I am suppose to have the lane change assistant but there is not an option to turn it on in my settings. Any idea on how to make that work. I’m in Ohio.

I would try stopping in to your local dealer to see if they have a genius available to look into it. When turning on Driver Assist, it will automatically use the current speed as your 'Set' point. There is no need to hit 'Set', which technically uses the observed road speed limit currently displayed. Use the 'Set' button when the limit change is detected to adjust to the new limit. The forward looking cameras actually 'see' the white speed limit signs, and ignore the yellow signs... Also, too bad you could not demo the 'Drive Assist Plus' feature for heavy, slow traffic situations...
As a BMW product specialist you should know that you don't have to completely switch off the driving assistant when you just want the system to (temporarily) deactivate. It's enough to press "CANCEL" on the steering wheel or the brake pedal. When the system should be active again simply press the "SET" button. Also you don't have to rattle on the steering wheel to indicate that the hands are on the wheel. In contrast to other manufacturers BMW uses a capacitive steering wheel that can detect the presence of 3 fingers (or more) that constantly can stay calmly on the wheel.
With regard to your first point, that's absolutely right. We hoped that was evident, or went without saying, but thanks for clearing it up anyway. Regarding the need for driver input, you're correct again; all it takes is a squeeze (because of the capacitive touch wheel), as we said in the video, rather than a wiggle or rattle. I chose to wiggle the steering wheel to be more demonstrative for the video. You can certainly choose to rest a hand on the wheel too, it's whatever the driver prefers :)
Great video! Thank you for demonstrating. Our son just purchased a 2023 BMW X6 with the professional driving package. Would love to see a video demo of the Traffic Jam Assist feature.
l had experienced a situation while using driver assist. SNOW...it will accumulate on the sensors and the system will not function and even if cleared of snow it can not "Read" the road if it is snow covered....just a heads up from someone who frequents snow covered roads in Canada and Northern States.
You just need to touch the steering wheel with 3 fingers when the orange lights come on. You don’t need to wiggle it, BMW use a capacitative steering wheel where you just have to touch with a minimum of 3 fingers.
New X5 with the pro driver assist...regarding the lane change feature, is there a way to adjust it so the departure from the lane is not so abrupt? It is very good but l personally prefer a more gradual chance (dependent on traffic situations) . The first time l initiated the maneuver l was ready to take control as it seemed so quick as to almost produce body roll.
I do not believe that is a setting that can be adjusted. We do not have any models in stock for me to check, but if memory serves the answer to your question is no. If it was an option, it would be under the driver assistance settings.
Love your videos, but this package is kind of pointless if you have to touch the steering wheel every few seconds. I just picked up my 2025 X5M, and was trying it in highway. More irritating than anything!!!😊
Glad you like the videos! It's certainly not for everyone, but some folks do really like it to reduce fatigue on longer drives. On an X5M though, I'd probably want to be doing all the driving myself anyway :)

It depends on the type of exit. Generally speaking, it's not recommended to use the system for an exit, however, if it's a relatively straightforward exit with clear lane demarcations, it can be done. We always recommend taking control back over for anything that requires special attention though, like a merge or exit.
It does request driver input fairly often, however, the capacitive touch steering wheel makes this much easier as you only have to touch the wheel rather than move it.
Nice job, very clear and easy to understand. Thanks again. We’re looking at an X6, do you have any specific videos in that model or thoughts for that matter? Thanks again.

@BMW of Morristown Thank you for that my friend. I appreciate that as well as the scroll wheel info. That's super cool. Honestly, I still would've gotten the driving professional pkg anyway.
