I had my first Okinawan sweet potato about 5 years ago. I found them at a Green Market in Lake Worth Florida near Palm Beach. I match them up I cook them exactly the way I do my sweet potatoes I put a pinch of brown sugar a tiny bit of butter and that was it mixed them up they were delicious

@@sannamuh985 Well one would assume culturally you'd eat fish if you live by the sea. When I lived in the philippines whenever i lived in a town by the sea or ocean you'd notice the culture is different then if i was in a mountain. People by the sea ate way more fish and actually fished. The movie Kontiki or something about a phd student scientist proving his theory of polynesians coming from latin america was interesting. Like people long ago could have crossed the atlantic and actually travel. It's just a little hard to believe an island or area by the ocean wouldn't fish or use the water. Maybe they didn't. But then if they didn't know how to fish or use a boat how did they get on the island in the first place? Sure you can look back on studies looking at what they ate, but how far back does that go? A few hundred years? A thousand? If you go to far back you may not be able to know much. Like on the Easter Island they got statues and writting, but know one can read the writing even though theres a ton there with locals.
Enjoyed this…however, confused: anthocyanins…are they not heat labile and pH sensitive? Stuff online promotes raw consumption to preserve their antiox power. If true and if Okinawans cook the potatoes, what's going on? The potatoes must have more secrets.
Jimmy Fortenberry for, sure, even the best foods should be eaten in moderation. Eating just one food is not recommended. I would say, make sure you get a variety of foods, and try to work the Okinawan sweet potato in your diet a few times a week..
Hi, i have a question, it has nothing to do with the video but i figured since this is your latest video you're more likely to see it here. Anyway, i've had issues with anemia and when i became vegan/vegetarian i had a lot of people tell me it would get worse because you "don't get iron on a vegan diet" i was given iron supplements by a doctor and the anemia improved. What do you recommend to prevent getting it again and which vegan foods are good for this? I'd love the opinion of an actual doctor that understands veganism. Thank you and i hope you have a nice day!

Yes it was first brought by the Portuguese or the Spanish. These groups have been trading with surrounding areas of East Asia since the 16th century. Sweetpotatoes, taro and cocoyam all have something in common being corms and tubers. They are complex carbohydrates. They give sugar to your blood not instantaneously like grains would.
Facts. The Okinawan sweet potato variety originated in South America and was brought to Japan in the 1600's, with the first plantings in Okinawa. These purple tubers were brought to Hawai'i with Japanese sugar plantation workers in the early 1900s and have since become a local favorite.

Udui1o1 Thank you for sharing. Did your relatives eat the skin peel of the Okinawan sweet potatoes, or just the inner flesh portion?
