Man I've been debating on how to drill a new xeno pearl I recently picked up as a relatively newer bowler and rhis video helped a lot because I already have a pin up incognito pearl. I think going pin down is the move to add some more diversity to my arsenal. Thanks for all the great content you've been churning out lately! Subbed!
@@andrewweltlich9065 my league alley is on the dry side so I figured this piece pin down makes the most sense with what I currently have. The incognito pearl pin up is a little too much hook. I haven't thrown a symmetrical solid, that's probably on my list next (gonna go pin up with it)
cool video. the katana is the more aggressive ball overall. Radical called it their most aggressive ever. Cool video showing how much drilling effects ball motion. Shoutout to Radical who has throwbot and shows different layouts on all of their balls on youtube!
It would be interesting to see how they change between a 1-2k finish vs 4-5k. Do the motions largely stay the same, just happening further or closer to you? Or does the extra surface affect the shape significantly off the spot instead of how much further or closer the whole motion happens? Great video as always!
Nick...I like my BW 2.0 hybrid a lot. I would like a step down. I'm 2 handed. 15 mph at the pins....good rev rate. Would flipping the ball upside down work like a pin down and smooth it out. Also...would a new BW ghost pearl with pin down drilling tame it out very much. I also have a tundra fire I love and am looking for a ball in between the 2. I'm hoping it will fit where a vibe might work
Always great content Nick. I've got a money badger tour and a track legion that are very similar specs wise. Which do you think would serve best as the pin down?
If been using pin up all my life and I was wondering why I always threw my ball across my body. I bought the black widow 3.0 pin down and I love it I can play far right next month I'm going to buy the escape one pin down I'll keep one ball pin up when I need id it
We do those reviews and comparisons on Radical ThroBot often. This is more of real world take because most people do not have 2 of the same ball drilled differently.
In this scenario, yes. You want the impact angle to be a lot higher than the entry angle because that will tell you the ball is still hooking as it enters the pocket. Sometimes the Katana had a much higher impact angle but the entry angle was much too low because it missed the breakpoint and skidded past.
@BrunsNick so would you say pin up balls generally have a quicker transition whereas pin down balls generally have a slower transition and the slower transition makes the smoother shape
@@craiggraham1412 yes, typically. With throbot, we often see better continuation from the pin down balls on the fresh because they don’t exhaust all of their energy at the breakpoint. They get through the pins better.
You mentioned that high trackers can't use pin down, however I love my pin downs over any of my pin ups. For me at least I find them much more controllable and smooth
Isn't it tough to say that the layout is the reason one ball is doing something vs. the other when they're not the same cover formula? I mean, both balls look great in this video, but this is not a great pin-up vs. pin-down comparison. Different covers, different cores, different results. The question of when to use either isn't one you can really answer either, because it's going to depend heavily on the friction response of the cover.
Similar enough to show the general reaction characteristics of each layout compared to one another. Radical ThroBot asyms go pin up vs pin down same ball all the time if you need a more “fair” comparison.
I hope my point is helpful. The lesson is about pin-up and pin-down. I have no brand name catalog in my head. I know many bowlers do so it’s a lot like the old baseball stadium hawker’s slogan: “You can’t tell the players without a program!” I don’t have a bowling ball program so to name the ball is meaningless to me. But when you mention pin-up or pin-down…now your talking sense! If I can’t follow your words, I can’t understand the lesson. I hope you want me to watch and learn; I think you do. Thanks.

I love pin down on solids, but not so much on pearls. I have a Katana Assault drilled with the pin in the middle finger and I really like it.

I used layout D as you suggested, and refinished to 500, 2000, and it really woke up the Katana Assault for me. Thanks for the tip.😊
Awesome Hank! 😎
Really enjoy the Specto data on top of your observation of the balls reaction. Cool
Great Video comparison! This is the first video I have seen with pin down asymm with HK22. Great job Nick, keep on throwing them!!

All good, I’ll just keep putting out more and more great content. The channel is growing nicely. 👍🏻

Great content as usual, very insightful. Any plans of covering short pins?
Could you please do a comparison between a black widow hybrid and ebonite the one remix with specto data?
Can you explain the difference between entry angle and impact angle?
Yep! On the list.
Always great content Nick. I've got a money badger tour and a track legion that are very similar specs wise. Which do you think would serve best as the pin down?
Legion

Question. Wouldn't it have been best to review the same ball instead of two different balls?
We do those reviews and comparisons on Radical ThroBot often. This is more of real world take because most people do not have 2 of the same ball drilled differently.
Nick would you say pin up stores more energy at the end

Then you’re likely not that high of a track where you thump over the fingers and thumb by going pin down. Glad it works for you. 👍🏻
@@brunsnick no thumb, but definitely tracking over the holes. Not ideal but it works 😁
The Katana is prettier though 👍

Not always the case!
Question, Y is your span/grip like that.? With the middle finger longer?

Above the bridge vent hole?
Yes.
Madness picked up sooner and rolled out a little bit on the backend.
I really cannot use pin down balls. I have a higher track and pin down layouts will not work
To be fairer, why not compare two of the same balls drilled differently?
Radical ThroBot videos do just that. Most people don’t have 2 of the exact same ball drilled different.
Isn't it tough to say that the layout is the reason one ball is doing something vs. the other when they're not the same cover formula? Comparison
You can see that in Radical throbot videos all day. Realistically, when does someone have 2 of the same ball if they’re not a staffer?
