The New York Times is reporting that former US president Donald Trump spoke to Saudi Arabia's crown prince Mohammed bin Salman. If confirmed, it would be the first publicised conversation between the two leaders since Trump exited office. As president, Trump had built close ties with Saudi Arabia, even visiting the kingdom for his first foreign trip. Trump had also downplayed the crown prince's role in the assassination of dissident Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi in 2018. What could Trump and MBS have discussed in this phone call?
