"Dont let the critic overwhelm the creative person in you..." this is great advice Randy. Thank you for writing and sharing your songs. You have reached people, and that's what matters.
An American treasure if there ever was one...
This is an incredibly excellent interview with a man who remained a conscience of American music through decades. Randy Newman is just ... your friend, who speaks to you.
Your voice is incredible Randy, and your sincerity in song comes across in ways that words often cannot express... "you got a friend in me!"
I’m only starting to get into him now at age 53. The “Nilsson singer Newman” album was my gateway to Randy. I’m going to to through all his albums starting with his first. He is an incredible songwriter - he knows he’s good.
There is no one bar anyone better than Randy Newman. I totally believe in him!!!!
I’ve admired his work for almost fifty years! He writes songs about real Folks, not folksongs❗️ A great observer of human character. A short story in stanza form. Real impact in a few revealing lines.
Randy Newman is an unacknowledged genius.
I think he's fairly acknowledged nowadays, but was underappreciated for many years.
Randy Newman! You are too hard on yourself! Throughout your career ,"when the road looks rough ahead..."
"You've got an admirer in me!"
Thanks for posting this great interview. RDC
I don't know Randy. But he strikes me as someone who lives in the moment. But likes to write it down to be able to think about it. Telling someone about the creative music discovery is beyond me.
But he does an outstanding job at getting music done.
Children show up at his concerts now!
Bravo. And thanks for all the memories!
I hope he doesn't mind so many love him for what he brought to "Toy Story". He brought heart and soul to that movie. Beyond the script and animation.
Randy Newman is an American Icon.
Artisthousemusic needs a sound engineer.
What's Artisthousemusic ? is that a place ?
***** it's the youtube channel this video is on
I love this testimony. Newman is a genius. His music moves me.
He wrote the greatest album of the 70s--Good Old Boys. Maybe he doesn't think he writes good lyrics, but they are brilliant. Talk about that, dude.
This album literally changed my life.
A great listen and watch. One of THE greats
I loved how he said "Johnny Williams"
The best songs ever! went through me heed for a long time
Randy, you are a major badass.
It would be cool to hear one of Randy Newman's soundtrack mock-ups he sometime makes.
Thanks for this, I'll have to check out your website!
Great lyricist.
..he plays quite well too.
Randy Newman Isolated Score Mambo Mexican
what a rich soul
Is that room at his house? I think he has more CDs than I do!
... or maybe he's saying that he is lucky to get a job in show business at all after his notorious uncle Alfred Newman went MAD and became a mascot for a magazine.
because of Short People song he received the attention he deserved.
Just go away. Please. You know nothing about music , only bile.
Don’t let the critic ruin the creator wow that’s great
If you have never drank lots of whiskey and snorted cocaine with Randy , you will never understand him .
Randy -> " I lived in a castle and slept on the floor " .
G r e a t musical mind
He almost as fidgety as he is talented.
BTW He was diagnosed awhile back with Epstein Barr, I think..and this causes problems with attention, physical antsiness, etc...that said, I'd rather watch him 'twitch' and sing, than just about anyone I know...
@@cynthiahawkins2389 EBV is associated with symptoms of fatigue rather than fidgeting.
So he stopped writing love songs early on did he? Well how did 'Marie' creep in under the radar? I love his political stuff - his tongue in cheek stuff his blatantly sarcastic stuff but his heartfelt love songs just cut me up!
Jezzapoppy Marie is not a typical love song, especially the near the very end "I don't listen to a word you say/and when you're in trouble I turn away"
@@willc5405 Yep. It's atypicality makes Marie one of the best love songs ever written.
"feels like homw'
“The worse they are, the more they write.”
so what your saying is you were lucky your friends father started a label and your uncles were already in the business... Great video though and good insight

you talk to much
Humble. Down to earth. Modest. But his atheism and liberalism is insipid, not highly astute.
nice vocabulary.
that's funny, because neither is yours. so I guess that makes Randy and you about even.
