Thanks for the video, and I'm not in my 60's anymore, been sailing for 40 and now into small fast boats.

Late last year I bought a very nice 470, but have yet to get it wet. It had been used as an Olympic tryouts boat then garaged since the late 1980s. Thanks for the tips on rigging!

Wow, that is a great find. I have a Facebook page dedicated to the older Vanguard International 470's facebook.com/groups/470international

@@taylorsailing1122 are the 470s ok for cruising, and can they be managed on a slipway or beach by one person. Thanks

@@jakedonnely4094 Hi, the short answer is no. They are built for racing and very easy to capsize - even when launching. I have sailed my 470 in light air single-handed, but it is not much fun. If you want a fun, easy-to-handle solo boat, I suggest a Force 5 or a Sunfish (a later model Sunfish with a cubby - stay away from older boats). The Force 5 is not too expensive, has a roomy cockpit, and is fast, but it can be a handful sailing downwind. I have both of these, and they are a lot of fun, single-handed, easy to launch, and recover from a capsize. The Capri 14.2 is fun, great for one or two people, and easy to recover from a capsize. If you want a "cruiser," I would suggest a Catalina 22' and avoid the MacGregor sailboats (I had a 26S). The MacGregor boats are poorly made. Hunter and Catalina boats under 26' and with a swing centerboard are great for ramp launches and shallow waters.

@@GraceAndTruthOhio would they still be a pain under main alone. Or reefed main. I've got the offer of either the 470 or laser 2. Was hoping to depower one of them for light cruising

I owned that same boat back in the late 70's. had blue stripes where skipper sat. Boat ended up in Italy.

I really enjoy sailing her. At our small racing association one of the best sailors told me that my 470 is probably the fastest boat in our handicap class.
