Hello B-E-A-U-TIFUL People!! \What/who should I listen to next?! ________________ In today’s video, I show you my reaction, as a Juilliard trained opera singer and vocal coach, to Voiceplay - Skyrim | The Dragonborn Comes feat. It would be an awesome experience if do a reaction on Rammstein - Feuer Frei , ..this song makes you go around banging your head and punch the walls...
The "autotuned" part you mentioned isn't autotune. It sounds different there because both Omar and Eli are singing the exact same notes, and Omar's voice is mixed to be the most prevalent on those high notes instead of Eli who's been most prevalent up until then. That's what makes the vocals change right there.
Yes thiiiiiis lol, I said the same on Peter Barbers vid lol, I was surprised because to me it was apparent it was 2 voices giving it that oomph..but I can understand as it’s so unusual and just piercing
Yes, I think Eli hit his range limit and it was just too high for him to really belt it out. He can hit those notes but without his usual powerful belt. Omar has a higher tenor range so they overlaid Omar's voice to make up for Eli being so quiet. The mix of the two gave it some power.
Yes, no autotune was involved but there was some ‘help’ in the mixing. I’m surprised you didn’t mention the arpeggios that Geoff was doing in the middle part. (Added) never mind; seconds after I hit ‘send’ you commented on it.
All the VoicePlay fans have been saying the same thing, regarding how they just keep getting better. We all thought My Mother Told Me was going to be tough to top, then along came Hoist the Colours. Oh, we all said, this has got to be the best thing they've done! Then boom, here's the Wicked Medley, and we're all picking our jaws up off the ground and thinking WOW, what just happened? And so on and so on... one reactor said it really well. It's gone beyond VoicePlay raising the bar- they've gone and kicked it into the stratosphere and show no sign of slowing down. And I am soooo HERE FOR IT!!! 😍I'm glad you are too! 😊
Have to agree on every point there. If I recall, Geoff and Layne alternate with the video and audio editing and I am sure they are in competition with each other for the best production yet. Well, if that results in every new production being better than the last, they've found the formula to fame and should keep up the competition.
The vocal talent runs in the Cardona family. Omar's brother is E.J. Cardona, super tenor of Voctave, who has also done a video with Voiceplay. Also the part where you mentioned auto-tuning, I believe part of the change in the sound is because the lead vocal changes from Eli to Omar.
@Badatallthis Stuff Autotune is an electronic means of changing a note to be where it should be instead of where it was sung. There are a lot of amateur singers who use it to hide their lack of talent :) You can hear how autotune does it if you listen to Cher singing Believe, at the point where it sounds like she's singing like a rubber band, although that was deliberately done badly for the effect. If it's done properly, it takes a good ear to notice it.
The artists of VP are professionals at the extreme top of their craft. Hate to break it to you - no auto tune ever used. Wrap your mind around multiple tracks of overlapping and interwoven sound.
This is great! Omar is featured in VoicePlay’s “Carry on Wayward son” and “Superstition” as well. You talk about effects at 9:51. I’ve read comments saying that there’s also a vocal shift there, from Eli to Omar, which would (at least in part) explain the change in tone. I don’t know if they got that info on a VoicePlay live chat or if it’s a theory.
Actually generally speaking, in the last 10 years that I have followed them Voice play uses very very minimal studio effects and almost no instruments of any kind. Their live performances sound just as good as this video. I was privileged to see them live at Walt Disney World in 2016 when they appeared at the Christmas party in the Magic Kingdom and it was magnificent. I doubt they use much auto tuning if any. Geoff has said that Lane occasionally adds tracks to the videos in that they double track the bass occasionally and add other sorts of things of that nature so that Geoff can also sing as well as do the baseline or Lane can do singing and beatboxing for example. But I’m pretty sure the supposed auto tune you’re listening to is actually the blend of Eli and Omar and Cesar. Nice reaction by the way, very natural and unassuming. I enjoyed it much more than the people who think that they are so full of knowledge in the technical aspects of music they forget to enjoy the actual music. Congratulations
Thank you for your comment. Did you like the new Encanto video reaction I just posted? Will you be there for my 195K Subscriber Celebration Live Stream tomorrow?
Geoff is making that boom noise. He had worked on that when making the friends on the other side. I’m sure it has reverb to create the echo sound but that’s him
Maggie : . . . That drum fill. How does he do it? Well, I daresay Laine would be happy to geek out over vocal production for an hour or two. You should reach out to him. Anyhow, this was another great reaction, Maggie!
Maggie being the Skyrim geek that I am my hair stood on end when I recognized the language they were singing in......Dragon Language (Dragon Speak). I literally chucked my earbuds across the room and yelled in sheer delight. This cover is absolutely brilliant.
Every time I hear Voice Play, I think they're better than the last time. Every time I think they've reached their pinnacle and can't possibly get any better. But somehow they do. They're incredible.
Omar Cardona is also a Voiceplay guest artist on Carry On Wayward Son. His brother, E.J. Cardona from Voctave, is a Voiceplay guest on Go The Distance.
Thank you for all that you do. Your reactions to some of my favorite bands like Nightlight, Dimash, Geoff Castellucci, and Type O Negative just make me smile. You kick ass, and you do make life happier. So, thank you.
I'm sharing my first experience with you as I watch this for the first time right now, can't believe I missed it on twitch. I swear you glow with radiant enthusiasm it brightens my day. I love how you express yourself, facially especially. This was amazing and I'm glad to watch it with you along with the epic geekiness and vocalism. Thank you Maggie 😉💘
Have you seen their latest video? Absolte fire!!! I hope you do get the chance to work with them one day, I get the impression that your version of crazy would blend well with theirs!
My theory on that bass thump is probably Layne doing a kick sound then in the studio they added a delay. But that's just my opinion. And if it's not Layne it's Geoff with a low note that has been delayed
Not sure the exact note but Geoff Castellucci has a 6 octave range from b0-a5. He is a true basso profundo. The sounds you didn't recognize how they were produced were probably from Layne, their beat boxer artist.
Love that song, great reaction as always, I was not really amazed of this song at the first 2-3 listens but after some more I acknowledged this as a masterpiece ^^ Love it, just during training I have found that the low note was C#1, I think that's the lowest one on the all Geoff official songs (lowest was D1 on Moster Mash) - incredible person, but all of the squad performed amazingly, these harmonies are beautiful and the highest notes amaze me, Voiceplay is still developing :) waiting for your coop with them ;)
As always an wonderfully entertaining reaction and some technical sharing. It looks like you haven't done VoicePlay's Wicked Medley yet. Put that in your top 3 to do list. It really should be a grammy nomination.
I loved your reaction Maggie :) Voiceplay certainly did quite an amazing cover of this song. The lady who originally captured my heart with this was Malukah. She did such an incredible rendition of it. That of course, spawned a whole bunch of performances with a bunch of my bard friends whilst larping :P So many memories... May I suggest the latest vid by Voiceplay? We dont talk about Bruno - it was amazingly fun and I love it to bits!
Continuing, Geoff is the best super low bass singer today and with the members of The Voice play, they really get along with their voices and with A LOT OF TECHNIQUE AND DEXTERITY, I love them and you too, your precise comments, your sincerity in your expressions and the care taken to edit your videos after watching them was incredible in this song the dragon born comes. congratulations. 👏👏👏😙😚☺️😗
Great job with this song Maggie. I'm so glad you enjoyed it! I'm such a huge fan of the game. And of course when Voiceplay did this I had to get this to you asap! There's so much to say I don't know where to start... so I just leave it to you in the video :D
2:00 beauty C#1 also 9:50 it’s Omar who does the last high note phrase, that’s why it sounds different. Listen to their cover of Carry on Wayward son, Omar is on that video and it sounds the same.
I want Omar to become their 5th member, I love his voice and I feel that in Voiceplay he would just get better and better. Omar was in Superstition and Onward my Wayward Son that Voiceplay did. If you haven't reacted to those please do.
Maggie, Geoff has done It, Again!!! He just covered Jimmy Dean's song "Big Bad John"!!! (Yep, the same man that has his name on Jimmy Dean sausage)!!! Looking forward to your reaction Young Lady!!!
They just release a cover of 'We Don't Talk About Bruno' which I bet you will enjoy when you get to it. Layne even gets to sing in it in between doing his human percussion section.
Thank you for your comment. Did you like the new Encanto video reaction I just posted? Will you be there for my 195K Subscriber Celebration Live Stream tomorrow?
Geoff's low bass scales sound exactly like the old Final Fantasy theme tune from original Nintendo. I bet it's an homage. Difficult to work that in, but an amazing Easter egg for old school gamers. As always, you are amazing! We miss your HF reviews. Their new Ain't Going Down til the Sun Comes up is wild!
I'm adding my voice to the (rather small) chorus requesting Voiceplay's Wicked Medley. I think you'll really enjoy it and I would love to hear your reaction.
Isn't their syncopation fantastic? And Layne's contribution is often so overlooked! Like his work on Valhalla Calling...but everyone of them is an outstanding vocalist. Of course, I adore Geoff and it's hard not to obsess over him, but don't sleep on the talent of all these guys! Their talent is mindblowing!
I love this song! This is one of my favorites. I have listen to it so many times sense they released it. Maggie I loved the flame and dragon effects. They was epic and! I had so much fun watching 👀 it!
They did such an amazing job here! Well, like they always do, right?! Now you should react to their newest, We Don't Talk About Bruno, from Encanto. I think you'll enjoy it! 😍
Thank you for your comment. Did you like the new Encanto video reaction I just posted? Will you be there for my 195K Subscriber Celebration Live Stream tomorrow?
You know a video game has made a cultural impact when musical groups of all kinds sing/play in its honor even more than ten years after its release. So good!
Greetings Ms Renee! its been a while since i've had the pleasure of viewing your always wonderful reaction vids and..to say the least....you did not disappoint!!!!! (as per usual!!)...First off, thank you for all of your outstanding and spot on observations and thoughts regarding this stunning rendition of "The Dragonborn comes"!! Also...i loved the fun you had in reacting to this rendition as well as the fact that you were a huge fan of everything that they did in the effort!! Its always such great fun for me to have the privilege of viewing your reaction vids!! Always entertaining and enriching!! all i can say young lady is....Keep em coming!!!! p.s...also as per usual...you looked captivatingly lovely in this clip!!
If you are not tired of viking like songs, I just heard If I had a Heart Norse Version by Colm McGuiness. Maggie he and Geoffs voice are so similar. You are going to have such a holy cheese muffin moment!
I've seen it suggested that the "wum-wum-wum-wum" effect as it trails off is Geoff hitting a really low note and then Layne doing some audio magic with it. Don't know for sure, but that sounds reasonable to me. :)
If you really want to break into the a capella world, I would contact Peter Hollens. He often works with others and with your talent & training he would probably be happy to work with you.
Omar and Cesar are best friends and roommates. Omar was on the Voice a couple weeks ago. Got all 4 changes I is going on to the next round. They're still in blind auditions though. He sang "Separate Ways by Journey and killed it. He chose John Legend to be his coach/mentor. Would you believe he's 33 years old? "Omar Cardona The Voice" Will bring up his audition.
Hey, just to be clear, they didn't use autotune at that part. It's kind of insulting to say that for a group, but at the same time probably feels pretty good to be equated to a robot.
Just for fun, there is another reactor (what it do Dave) that is a Skyrim nut. You would really enjoy his vid on Dragonborn come. It shows to what great extent that voice play goes to getting thier covers right. I think you would really enjoy it and it would really help understanding Skyrim.
Would love to see you do a reaction to Voiceplay's My Mother Told Me, it's right up there with their best. Featuring Jose Rosario Jr. from Hoist the Colours.
Just FYI, Omar is a Contestant on this season of "The Voice". He sang Journey's "Separate Ways" and got a four chair turn. ( all of the judges liked him) He chose John Legend as his coach. Hope he wins!
If you want to hear some insanely low notes from Geoff (yes, even lower than this) and also some of his highest notes ever in one song, plus some of Layne's craziest beatboxing, some of Eli's highest belting, and an all around phenomenal arrangement, then I highly recommend you check out Voiceplay's cover of "Enemy" by Imagine Dragons (which was written for the Arcane TV series).
No matter who I hear singing this, I always think of Sabina Zweiacker and the Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra version. Absolutely love both versions :)
I thought they could not be better than in Valhalla calling but...this is sooo mesmerizing and addictive, listen to it at least 5-6 times/day! The video is also very good as in Valhalla and gives the song more depth, especially for us no English speakers and for me, as a fantasy nerd it is...WOW! Cardona has a extremely clear and nice voice and I have to check him out further on.
Hello B-E-A-U-TIFUL People!! \What/who should I listen to next?!

@@mmasque2052 Love Geoff's crisp arpeggios.
Props to the source material. There is a reason why the music from Skyrim was released as a soundtrack. Jeremy Soule outdid himself on Skyrim.

Those bass and subharmonic subterranean notes from Geoff are so incredible it's easy to miss that he entered carrying a freaking _human skull._
Fun fact: that was improvised at the last moment, he had to actually bring the skull of his enemy. Now that's what I call dedication
This is great! Omar is featured in VoicePlay’s “Carry on Wayward son” and “Superstition” as well.

My theory on that bass thump is probably Layne doing a kick sound then in the studio they added a delay. But that's just my opinion. And if it's not Layne it's Geoff with a low note that has been delayed
Sounds like Layne's kick drum to me, the thump was put through reverb to give it that echo effect.
@@Tryst46 reverb was what I meant

(as per usual!!)...First off, thank you for all of your outstanding and spot on observations and thoughts regarding this stunning rendition of "The Dragonborn comes"!!
Also...i loved the fun you had in reacting to this rendition as well as the fact that you were a huge fan of everything that they did in the effort!! Its always such great fun for me to have the privilege of viewing your reaction vids!! Always entertaining and enriching!! all i can say young lady is....Keep em coming!!!!
p.s...also as per usual...you looked captivatingly lovely in this clip!!
Superb! Bravissimo!
I think I might have identified which one of them is the Dragonborn 💀
If you are not tired of viking like songs, I just heard If I had a Heart Norse Version by Colm McGuiness. Maggie he and Geoffs voice are so similar. You are going to have such a holy cheese muffin moment!
I've seen it suggested that the "wum-wum-wum-wum" effect as it trails off is Geoff hitting a really low note and then Layne doing some audio magic with it. Don't know for sure, but that sounds reasonable to me. :)
did you notice the MIDI effect Geoff was doing around your 9 minute mark?
I'd love to hear Maggie collaborate with Voiceplay.
Great song, but you need to check out the Skyrim songs that Peter Hollens has done!!!
Thank you for your suggestion! 😊
@@maggiereneemusic ya his are good to. I'd suggest the one he did with Lindsey Stirling
If you really want to break into the a capella world, I would contact Peter Hollens. He often works with others and with your talent & training he would probably be happy to work with you.
Interesting fact: the chain mail that Caesar is wearing is 100% real.
Lady M, if you love Omar, then you absolutely must checkout "Carry On My Wayward Son", I too would love to see "Voiceplay featuring Maggie Renee" 🤞
"Omar Cardona The Voice"
Will bring up his audition.
IIRC, the percussion bit you were asking about around 6:58 was Layne doing a kick but putting the mic up to his throat.
You've got to do Voiceplay's cover of "We don't talk about Bruno"! It's great!
Also their Wicked medley! It's Geoff's greatest work to date!
Would love to see you do a reaction to Voiceplay's My Mother Told Me, it's right up there with their best. Featuring Jose Rosario Jr. from Hoist the Colours.
Love Your Reactions. Please react to Geoff's version of Shenandoah. His range is Amazing. I'm also waiting for Voiceplay feat Maggie Renee.
Thank you for your lovely comment. Will you be there for my 195K Subscriber Celebration Live Stream tomorrow?
I will try to be.
😊
Just FYI, Omar is a Contestant on this season of "The Voice". He sang Journey's "Separate Ways" and got a four chair turn. ( all of the judges liked him)
He chose John Legend as his coach. Hope he wins!
no the climb that they did that stared at time stamp 8:52 and ended at time stamp 9:18 was three voices in perfect harmony.
A FEW MOMENTS LATER...
Love it...
Holy cheese muffins...

I think the sudden cut off is actually how the game starts. A great RPG so immersive in story
They just did "we don't talk about Bruno" a few days ago great video 🤣🤣
I love your reviews! 🥰 Please check their version of The Greatest Show next.
