If you look back at it, RE7 really did save the company as a whole. Not saying they were in danger of going under, but there was a lot of controversy surrounding on disc dlc and stuff like that that Capcom loved doing. After RE7, nearly every game they have released was well received. Look at all the remakes, Village, DMC5 and Monster Hunter World. They really got put back on the right path after RE7 and I think the fan and critical reception towards the game helped a lot.
Years later, I'm STILL basking in the afterglow of validation that I was right about 7. ^_^ As a long time fan, I got into many arguments back during the build up to 7's release. With all the videos we had seen, the ever evolving demo, and interviews. I KNEW 7 was a love letter to the first 3 games and that RE was about to stage a very successful comeback (and my confidence was also boosted about being right about Doom 2016 for the same reasons). But while I wasn't alone in thinking this, I definitely wasn't common. Plenty of times people called me a fake fan, or blind to "crapcom". But its all history now. ^_^ I will always say with the most genuine happiness, "I told you so"

What surprises me is the amount of Brain Rot comments from the average internet RE fan. “Remake 3 is awful cause the quarantine-depressed journalist said so 3 days after release”. “Re7 is mid, and Re8 is bad”. “Re9999 is a good game but not a good Resident Evil game”. This community is so full of the weirdest NPC’s. RE as a franchise is full of experimental titles, in both main line and spin offs. Even the original RE wasn’t a Zombie game as much as it was a love letter to horror, Neptune = Jaws, Hunters, a Giant Snake, Plant 41 and even Indiana Jones’s boulder! RE is a beautiful series because the developers never settle down and become formulaic! I mean they do follow a “vibe” but not forever, and RE9 might be the last mushroom-virus based game and will 99% have a new variation of fodder enemies. End of rant, God can’t someone just say “I enjoy all Re games but some more than others”, like something actually wholesome.

When you type in Resident Evil 3 Remake on Google the first 4 ratings that pop up are: 9/10 Steam, 7.8/10 IMDb, 9/10 IGN, 4.7/5 Amazon. Not saying those reviews are correct, I understand the criticism a lot of people give the game… But yes, it was generally received really well (just not as well as the remake of 2 or 4).
I think both your comments are fair, but a silver lining for re3r was that it was initially produced outside capcom and it deviated from their vision so much that it made them realise it's better to do it themselves, hence re4r being produced in-house and where we are today!
