I recently bought this one (241369) in very good condition for $200. It's keeping excellent time at about +1 spd. The serial number puts the manufacturing date at February 2018.
Relative time, check out the victorinox 241566 infantry automatic. Sounds closer to what you are looking for. Just got one off Ebay for 270 and they have 3 left.
I recently bought a used watch. A Swiss Army officer automatic 24329. It was not easy finding the reference number. My guess it was made in the early 2000s. It has an ETA 2836 movement. The day and date change over instantly at midnight. It also has the Incabloc shock absorber. I would say that it's about 40mm. Just put a black leather Swiss Army leather strap on it and it looks great. Hope you look up this model sometime. Thank you.
Thanks for reviewing this Victorinox field watch. In the last twelve months, bad things had happened to several watches in my collection which led me to start looking for a "pick up and go" watch that is tough enough to withstand a variety of rigorous activities that life throws at us. I had three Seikos (two with the 4R36 and one with 6R16 movement) magnetized! I had subsequently dropped my SKX007 on the kitchen floor and the rotor got dislocated from the main bearing hub! After months of searching and pondering, I have finally found the perfect beater to add to my collection. It is the Citizen BN0121-51L with a deep blue dial and even-number Arabic numerals with the date window at 3-o'clock. Other dial colours are also available. The anti-magnetic Eco-Drive movement is housed in a titanium case and the dial is protected by a sapphire crystal with AR on the underside. The case is also protected Citizen's patented Duratect coating of sort. The monocoque titanium case is 40 mm in diameter and 11.7mm thick. Although this watch is not being marketed in North America by Citizen USA, but it should not be difficult to find in most Japan online stores like Rakuten. It could be had for little as $270 USD. Mine is in transit and I am looking forward to having it on my wrist.
Sorry to hear about your others. Any idea how they got magnitized? As for the Citizen, that is a really nice looking eco-drive. There have some really nice models that only seem to be sold in Japan. Let me know how you like it. I might have to look into one as well.
Liked the review. I have the dark grey and silver dial models on stainless bracelet. Love them both just as much as my Hamiltons. Been carrying a Victorinox knife for forty years. Can't beat the quality for the price.
About 6 years ago, I got my first Victorinox Base Camp watch (first ever watch) as a gift. Loved the easy to read dial, and the lume. Today, now ready to upgrade to a serious automatic, I’ve been really sad to see the lack of options in the 38-40mm range. Your video was the only way I found out about this watch, which looks to be perfect for my needs. Hopefully I can find one...
I have the Victorinox Officer myself. Wore it to the office today in fact! I can safely say it would suck as a field watch due to the lack of lume, but if you're looking for the legibility and the functionality of a field watch, I dare say the Victorinox delivers what you're asking for in a Hamilton Khaki... but with the added bonus of a smoother sweep and applied markers. I feel like I can contribute in commenting on the bracelet which I bought it with. The butterfly clasp is smooth and secure and the finishing is great.
Exactly what I've also been searching for. I spent about a month in my quest before deciding I couldn't afford a Khaki King. So went with the 40mm Phoibos 007C diver. I'm still looking for that $200 40mm field watch...
I can suggest a good 42mm field watch for $160, the Vostok Komandirskie K-34 Series. I believe you actually mentioned them before. Automatic, mineral crystal, 100m WR, conventional display case back, and a conventional pull-out crown. Stainless case with a leather strap with a butterfly deployment clasp. They even have a GMT no date with a full lume dial and a rotating inner 24-hour bezel. Of course the downside is no hacking, only 19,800 VPH,so-so accuracy, and no quickset date on date models. Also, their GMT models don’t have an independently adjustable 24-hour hand. For the price I think their a great deal an an alternative to a Hamilton for a lot less. Great video.
Some of the Vostoks, like the k-34 will make a great alternative. I probably wont get a k34 anytime soon, as I'm waiting for a special version. On the Russian sub forum of Watchuseek they are using it as the basis for a project watch. With everyone voting on what the final design will be. It's turning into a Russian version of the Aplinist, with a compass bezel and the 24 hour hand. It's starting to come together nicely, but probably wont be made until next year. forums.watchuseek.com/f911/08-vote-dial-details-4802951.html
Bought it with the original metal bracelet which is beautiful. Other than that and the lack of lume no criticism ... But then again I like the applied numbers so you can't have everything. The movement is a big upgrade over Seiko 4R and 6R in terms of accuracy especially if you are active (so is sapphire crystal but then it depends on which Seiko you compare it with).
Nice video probably sunk 809 from seiko or timex expedition scout. The problem with timex scout is that it has a loud ticker. Maybe the orient defender
My first decent watch was a Victorinox in the 90s and they have a factory store nearby so I have a good opinion of them. All my Victorinox I've had have been very well built, solid feeling watches on par with Hamilton I'd say. One pet peeve about this watch is when the date window is cut out so big you can see other dates, why do this? Do I not know what tomorrows date will be? Good review man.
Thanks. Yah, some people like the open date window, others hate it. I'm not typically a fan, but I don't mind it. On this one, I actually liked it a little. Mostly because it was at the 6, instead of the 3. And that little triangle just below it, that pointed to the date as well as splitting up the words "swiss made" It's hard to explain, but I liked the symmetry it gave the dial, especially since it was opposite the shield. Compared to when the open date window is usually at the 3:00, and it just seems to disrupt the flow.
is the best watch they have made ever, I just love it, I cant even tell why but it is the feeling it gives you, very especial piece of art, and it was at a very affordable price when it came out at about $900 My strap is still stiff 12 years later it never broke out, is brand new, very hard but top quality, I can acept to strugle a litle bit to take it out or on just to have the feel this watch give you. I would not change the original strap for any other, this watch is marble of concept and good taste. I can see in the future it will take the place it deserve in history of timepiece making.
Original MSRP was nowhere near 950. They had the 2824 Officer on Amazon and Amazon was selling them up until 2014-15 until they sold out. They went for $280-$300 or so because I kept watching them after I got mine (MSRP was possibly 4-450 as a Hamilton Khaki alternative). They made so many Officer variations. I have a great looking Officer chrono (quartz). Outstanding case and band quality. Wenger also made some nice watches.
I was just guessing and going off current MSRP of their other Automatic watches. www.swissarmy.com/us/en/Products/Watches/Men%27s-Watches/c/TP-mens-watches#tp-movement I could be totally off. Although remember MSRP is just what they list it as, doesn't necessarily mean what they wind up selling for. Especially on Amazon.
Quality of content just keeps getting better! That’s a great looking piece too. I’m on the hunt for a field watch with an inner rotating compass bezel. So far I’ve only found the Bldr Expedition.
Thank you. The BLDR is one i know of. There are also a couple of lesser known Seikos I've seen (other then the alpinist) SRPA75 and SRPA77. I was just mentioning this in another comment. There is a project watch in the Russian sub forum of Watchuseek that is using a Vostok k-34 with the gmt as it's base. But turning the internal bezel into a compass. Every week they are voting on what specific they want on the watch. It's interesting, and starting to look nice. But it may not even be made until middle of next year. forums.watchuseek.com/f911/ This is the latest vote, for details on the dial. If you were curious what it was looking like. forums.watchuseek.com/f911/08-vote-dial-details-4802951.html
the older version of the officer is soo much better. the dial has more details, it has the day of the week. the second hand is blue enamel. They don't make that model anymore, but man it is a looker. they now are going with cheaper dials and movement.
Love your videos. It's clear you put in a lot of time and effort. On another note, you can perhaps solve your ending conundrum with a Victorinox multitool?
Thank you, they do take some time. I've never looked at a victorinox multi-tool. Maybe I should, although I already have way more leathermens then I need.
Nice intro! About the watch, i love it for about 200 usd. I think that's a fair price for the watch. That they could not sell it for 900 usd is logical. Really a bummer that it is discontinued.
I think they just have a really high MSRP. Like a few other companies. I've seen the INOX watches sell regularly for 250, but I think they are listed at 500-600 on their site.
I got one of these in 2012 for $250 at Nordstrom in the clearance section. Must have been right when it was discontinued. It was a lucky find. All these years later it’s going strong. I replaced the band with a Hirsch Ayrton in black/red. Those colours really have the Swiss Army vibe. I too think the lume is lacking but the watch was so damn cheap for what it is, you have to look past the lume. Haven’t had so much as 1 issue with it. I should start thinking about getting it serviced though. This replaced my TAG which got lost unfortunately, and cost a hell of a lot more. I was gonna get another TAG but I kinda stumbled on this and said what the hell. Glad I did too. I don’t collect watches, but I know a good one when I see it. When it comes time to retire this one I’ll likely have to spend a lot more money finding a suitable replacement.
didnt know that engineer bracelet, its an absolute masterpiece.I love it,i never liked those chainy metallic watch bands, ever, but that one is trully beautyfull.I dont know how it can change so much. amazing.Thank you so much for share.
for people who prefer a lower price for the engineer bracelet: its also in two tones, polished, brushed, etc, etc. es.aliexpress.com/item/4000851344730.html?spm=a2g0o.productlist.0.0.2f511913tEqkz3&algo_pvid=bb0a88ee-f437-4d52-a00e-6c25cd3bc6df&algo_expid=bb0a88ee-f437-4d52-a00e-6c25cd3bc6df-31&btsid=0b0a01f816049106558708924e42b1&ws_ab_test=searchweb0_0,searchweb201602_,searchweb201603_ es.aliexpress.com/item/4001270829931.html?spm=a2g0o.productlist.0.0.2f511913tEqkz3&algo_pvid=c4881aee-5de5-4e9d-8868-234acdeba166&algo_expid=c4881aee-5de5-4e9d-8868-234acdeba166-48&btsid=2100bde716049105945163398e3e45&ws_ab_test=searchweb0_0,searchweb201602_,searchweb201603_
I am using few combos: - Leatherman Rev, Komandirskie K-34, Ka-Bar Gila Folder -Victorinox Recruit, Zeppelin GMT - Leatherman Rev, my new Parnis Diver - mix of them ;) Victorinox field watch is looking simply, but not awesome :( not for me :( 100m WR is in plus :) This watch have got many good points, but the dial is... I don't know how to tell it... It's not my favourite dial :) Maybe indexes are bad looking on mat black dial. Something is wrong for me :) But... review is great ;) I hope next one will be soon
Stellar review 👍🏼 too bad about it not being in production now. Victorinox now owns Wenger and I’ve seen a watch I like by them called the Terragraph but not sure about availability on that either, also I’ve seen a brand called Parnis which I believe uses some Sea-Gull and Miyota Movements and are in the 40mm range. Might be able to find a field watch in that price range you like there and it would interesting to get one of them in and see a review! 😊
Thanks! I've looked at a few Parnis's in the past, but I didn't see a 40mm field. But I'll look again. I think Seagull might have some of their own models as well in 40mm.
Which one would you choose? With this Victorinox or with the Hamilton Khaki King II? I am undecided and would like to know your opinion. Thank you very much in advance
Well I sold this watch, but still have the Khaki King. So that's probably my answer. These might be pretty hard to find these days, but they do have a great unusual look. Although for me I love the day date at the top of the khaki king, and the 80hr power reserve comes in handy.
Great review. Too bad it’s been discontinued. The dial looks good, but I agree there should be more lume applied. I was surprised the second hand wasn’t luminescent. I wonder how this would work with a nato style strap with the case to lug distance being so close. The only field watch I have in my collection is a Hamilton Khaki King Auto which is a fantastic watch, but a bit more than the Victorinox.
I have seen a lot of field watches that do not have lume on the second hand. It is divers that almost always have it so the diver can know the watch is running.
The picture with the grey nato is a 1.4mm Barton Jetson. It was tight, but it worked. www.relative-time.com/victorinox-officers-watch-review/ Anything more, you might have to get some curved / bent spring bars. How do you like the Khaki King? Its on my list to get sometime, but I've purposely been avoiding it. Most of the watches I wind up selling, just to keep the channel going. (As well as keeping the wife happy) But I've been avoiding the khaki king, as I'm pretty sure I would want to keep it.
Love the review work, footage, talking punts and general story. Pro audio tip: the voice over is very 's' sibillant. Try repositioning your microphone diaphragm off axis or parallel or straight on but at your nose, this can help with a cardioid pattern. It's a great sounding Mic in timbre but that harsh s sound although smooth in character is a bit tedious. Are you using a sennheiser?
Thanks. Yah the S noise is an issue. I think I've adjusted the mic since this one. It's usually up at 45 degree angle from my mouth, basic I'm looking straight at the bottom. Yet even with that and a pop filter I hear it at times. Recently got a program that's supposed to help edit it out, might have to try it sometime.
Great review, thanks! It really is too bad they don't make them anymore, it looks really really nice in your video. But fashions always tend to come back so there's still hope! Also, you said pocket-watch instead of pocket-knife somewhere in the beginning and I wasl ike, what?! lol Lastly, maybe Look in to a Victorinox Spirit to solve your Leatherman conundrum? I have a black oxide one myself. I usually prefer a small fixed blade instead of a MT but out of all my MT's the Spirit is my fav. Cheers!
Thanks! yah I goofed in the beginning, I didn't even notice it until comments started point it out. LOL For some reason a few parts of the video were really choppy when i checked it. So i was so focused on fixing that, I didnt even notice I said watch instead of knife. But too late now. I'll check out the Spirit. I didn't know they made multi-tools. But it makes sense, everyone does at this point.
Haha, no worries, we all make mistakes sometimes, that's part of what makes us human I guess. Victorinox has been making plier-based MTs for at least 30 years already., probably longer. They were even issued in the dutch army for a decade or two. Of course not in the division I was in -I should be so lucky, I just got a crummy knife- but still. The blade-steel and its heat-treatment are pretty poor just like on their pocket-knives, but the other tools are really nice and they all lock and are easy to unlock with a simple button.
I like my Victorinox Swiss Army Ambassador, and the fact that it has also been discontinued makes me feel like I belong to some sort of exclusive group as opposed to the Seiko followers.
Dear Shawn, I came across your channel cause it was different, your selection, presentation and your immense open mind for watches allowed to shed light on some watches I havent encountered. I have a complaint. I feel like I am burning a hole in my wallet by watching your videos. It feels so genuine and the watches you being are such refreshing. Keep them coming and Oh dont worry about the hole just need to get s bigger wallet that matches the bank account ;) Take care, stay safe and best wishes.
It's Shane actually. 😀 But that's ok, I've been called Shawn many times as well. My Mom was a big fan of the old Cowboy movie. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shane_(film) Anyway, thanks I do appreciate it. These take a lot of time, so I'm glad they are enjoyed.
It's a nice "officer's watch". Looks candies, but is rugged, but is swiss made, but has enough field watch elements, but looks shiny, but within officer's budget. Something you buy your kid when he graduates from officer's school. If you don't know what you want this watch looks like a safe buy. A nice upgrade for someone who wears g-shock.
Relative Time there is no micro adjustment holes, so i changed it with a brown leather strap with white stitching bought from amazon, i use the watch rarely and plan to sell it from time to time of some reasons then give up. It wears bigger like 41-42mm, I also have victorinox infantry 40mm, wears 39mm.
Sorry, I should have included that in the description. It's in their now at the bottom of the straps. amzn.to/2M39dED Every time I show the snk805 with that strap, at least 2 or 3 people ask about it.
Nice review. Before it ended I already thought about ordering myself one of these and then you stated that they don't make them anymore........the sad corner of the room patiently awaits my company lol
What a great looking watch. And a Swiss made automatic for two bills...?!? Yes, please! I’ve got a Victorinox Maverick quartz that I treasure. As for another 40mm, you might want to check out the Bernhardt Binnacle Anchor III. Yes, it’s certainly an homage, but it’s a Miyota automatic, sapphire, 200M, and the bracelet is a marvelous thing. It has definitely scratched my Explorer I itch...(for the time being, Lol!).🤣
I think it would look a little better on a darker brown then the one i had, but it still looks good. I haven't seen the blue dial version, I'll have to find a picture. Cheers!
I thought I found one, but unfortunately it was the lighting in the picture that made me mistake it for a blue dial:( Would have been a killer look if it had been real... I love my blue dials (SNZG11 and as of today: a Save the Ocean Samurai:) Victorinox makes A LOT of blue dial watches though (that I.N.O.X. Mechanical is a stunner)
Check out Citizen Watch. Consider their design. I think their field watch looks better than Seiko. Nice review on the Victorinox. I've got one of them Model 1826 way before when their name was still S.A.W.
I've never taken too hard a look at Citizen's field watches. But I will. I was actually thinking of reviewing one of their chronos next month. AT0200-05E It's one of their lower end ones, but it typically goes on sale right before the holidays. So I thought it would be a good time to cover it.
I don't think anyone really likes the open date window. People either hate it, or they just don't care about it. Someone commented that a version exists that looks identical, but with a normal date window. Not sure what the model is. But I'm betting it's also discontinued.
I had a pretty rough Monday but I got home and kissed my beautiful wife and then saw you had a new video up. A nice treat. Now it's a better day. lol But I digress; Great review. Rock solid production values (the subtle background score was just right. Not distracting but exactly enough to fill out the video.) as always. I've had the 241357 since 2012. It's the same watch but the date window is narrowed to only show one day at a time. Still running like a champ and one that still gets a goodly amount wrist time. About three days in I took a heat gun to the rubber strap and put the band around my wrist (over the sleeve cuff of a sweat shirt) while it was still hot. It molded perfectly and instantly became as comfortable as can be.
Sorry to hear you had a rough day, but always glad to be a distraction. 🙃 I've also seen someone put them in a round mug, then add boiling water too. Taking them off the watch first of course.
Yes, the quest. Find a 40mm field watch, under 11mm thick, with good lume on the hands and also on the indices. Bonus points for Arabic’s at 3-6-9-12 and bars roe the remaining hours. My Seiko SRPB05J1 is so close... 42 mm, but I want the lume of its close cousin the SPRA71.
I'd say the open date window is a love / hate kind of thing. Except I don't think anyone actually loves it. It's more of a Hate / tolerate kind of thing.
@@MANTAMANBREAK check out Barton or Ritche. They have some good quick release leather. Or some really good silicone straps. If you want something nicer check out Armilla. I've got a few of their leather ones and I really like them. Just take a bit to get too you.
Victorinox's INOX is fairly popular for a quartz watch. They usually go for $250, but are supposed to be very rugged and tough. Might look into one some day. But when I was reviewing this I noticed they are releasing a mechanical model. But at quite a steep price jump. Cheers!
Seen them, but I'm more interested in the tread bracelet it comes on. Actually emailed them a while ago seeing if they would be willing to send me one to check out, but never heard from them. It seems a little pricey for what it is, but still might have to get one to check out sometime.
Field watches historically were smaller 36mm. I like you am a field watch kind of chap. But this watch misses the mark on several fronts besides the strap. 1) any watch that has a date window should be the same colour as the dial then offset the numeral. 2) No field watch should be polished matt or bead blasted. 3) The dial is not clear as you stated. 4) Lume lume lume. Basically any field watch should be able to with stand knocks, drops so an ETA movement no way best would be the Seiko NH35 series if one ventures to an automatic. ETA makes a hand wound 2804 series that would be better. This watch fails on so many levels to be a field watch. Good review the hunt continues.
I'm starting to think that there are almost two categories of field watches. One side is more of a true field watch, one for those that actually need a field watch. Where functionality is key, so as you said thin and small so that it's not in the way. No reflective surface to give away your position. As well as a ton of lume, because you don't know how long you are gonna be in the dark. Compared to watches like this, and probably most Hamilton. Which are for those that want a field watch, but with a bit more style over function. It's kind of like divers that only have 100m water resistance. It looks like a diver, and for most of the people that buy them it wont matter. But they really aren't a diver. So do ETAs have a reputation for being fragile?
Nice job. I have carried a victorinox swiss champ pocket knife for the better part of 4 decades. Love they're cutlery but never bonded with they're watches. Mostly due to the price and poor lume
@@RelativeTime yeah,. In general they are on the weak side. Or at least nowhere near Sieko's ability to produce lume. I don't mind paying for quality but if the manufacturer puts lume on it, it really needs to be outstanding before I'll consider the purchase. Sieko nails it every time. Wish they all to it as serious as Seiko does
Some RUclips channel creators and watch enthusiasts do not recommend laying the watch sitting on its crown. Till now, don't know the reason why not to do this. Got no clue. Hoping for enlightenment from the watch enthusiasts-club community.
I'm not sure. I tried looking into it a little. I think its because the crown (non screw down) is the weakest point. Where it could potentially snap?? Or maybe transfer impact energy into the movement?? I saw someone on a Rolex forum mention that it wears down the emblem on the crown faster. Otherwise I don't believe it's bad for the movement to be at that angle, as it is regulated at different positions.
The closest they have is this one. www.swissarmy.com/us/en/Products/Watches/Mens-Watches/AirBoss-Mechanical/p/241507 I'm not sure if its a replacement though.
Boldr makes some great watches. But at first glance, it looks a little too much like the Bertucchi Titanium models. www.bertucciwatches.com/Bertucci/A2TOC.html But Boldr has Sapphire, and I really like the Syringe Hands. On another note, bertucchi has been around for a long time now, but they could take some pointers from Boldr on making a slick easy to navigate website.
Are you going to do a video on the Victorinox fieldforce? (Not the chrono version) Which seems to be a superior version of this watch given the improvements you mentions.
@@RelativeTime Yeah, haven't seen much about it so would be interested in your take on it. I quite like the look of the blue dial with a stainless steel bracelet or leather strap. A nice visual improvement compared to the officer is that the Victorinox logo is in red. Also the dial isn't crowded with text like some of the Seiko fieldwatches. Been thinking about picking one up for Christmas.
Leatherman > Victorinox any day of the week. . . . . . . If only they made a mechanical watch. (I daily a Surge myself but the Wave is what stole me away from the Swish Army line-up.)
I usually don't carry one, unless I know I could need it, usually just a skeletool. But that's also because I have 2 that live in my car (3 if you count the mini one on my key-chain).
The entire line is discontinued. Victorinox still makes watches, mostly quartz but some mechanical. Most of those are 42, but some are 43. www.swissarmy.com/us/enu0026fl=!fu002/Products/Watches/Mechanical-Watches/c/TP-mechanical-watches
I have a VIctorinox Quartz that is durable accurate and a real beast. It was a gift from www.ABTW.com , the straps, rubber, are a PIA , they just never seem to "break in". Oh, and it is in RED also - Dial and Straps. Good Luck!
@@RelativeTime I wrote them recently about a smaller watch. They're coming out with a 36mm watch soon. You should check out Weiss as well for nice mechanical manual wind field watches.
I've never heard anyone who says they like it. Just people who hate it, or don't care. So I'm surprised they keep doing it. I'm more in the don't care category. This one I like better then when they do it at the 3:00. I think it adds a little bit of symmetry at the 6:00, especially with the shield at the top.
Sounds like a good price, I'll give it a look.
Thank you.
I came close to pulling the trigger on this one several times. The simple, clean layout still speaks to me years later.
If I could turn back time… 😉
Thanks for reviewing this Victorinox field watch.
Found a silver dial with bracelet at a pawn shop for 135… super score. This will help rotate out my Hamilton. Specs are on par with it.
I'm still looking myself for some more. I've found a few options that are a bit more costly, but so far nothing around this price.
I was wondering how good the bracelet is on those. Good to know, thanks for commenting.
Exactly what I've also been searching for. I spent about a month in my quest before deciding I couldn't afford a Khaki King. So went with the 40mm Phoibos 007C diver. I'm still looking for that $200 40mm field watch...
Have one, love it, keeping it...I did change the strap though, as you said, it cannot lay flat.
Did you have any trouble getting a new strap on it? The clearance was a bit tight on mine.
is true but i cant let go that strap
Man, I'm in love with this watch :(
nice review! I got one in 2017 , I found it by luck on amazon for 260 usd I think , no problem at all and it still looks great!
Very true. Although at what price do you start getting Sapphire with Seiko?
pocket knife... I think you said pocket watch, regarding Victorinox.
Crap.. your right. How did I miss that. LOL I guess I'm just so used to talking about watches I didn't notice I said that.😋
Haha I was going to say the same thing!
We are watching 😠
Listening to every word 😠
I have a Victorinox pocket watch....and it was my first pocket watch when I was a kid. I was a little different.
And that little triangle just below it, that pointed to the date as well as splitting up the words "swiss made"
It's hard to explain, but I liked the symmetry it gave the dial, especially since it was opposite the shield.
I have the quartz version of this watch and the bracelet is one of the nicest I've ever worn.
I was just guessing and going off current MSRP of their other Automatic watches.
www.swissarmy.com/us/en/Products/Watches/Men%27s-Watches/c/TP-mens-watches#tp-movement
I could be totally off.

This is the latest vote, for details on the dial. If you were curious what it was looking like.
forums.watchuseek.com/f911/08-vote-dial-details-4802951.html
Seiko sarg005.
I'm not 100% sure, but I think that one got discontinued about the same time as the Alpinist. But you might be able to still find one.
This is great info, thank you! Looking forward to your future content sir!
$625 USD MSRP in 2010. Stainless bracelet versions were $725 USD. Courtesy of internet archive.
the older version of the officer is soo much better. the dial has more details, it has the day of the week. the second hand is blue enamel. They don't make that model anymore, but man it is a looker. they now are going with cheaper dials and movement.
Many field and fleiger and dive watches replace the 12 with a symbol, it's not period correct for a field watch but it has become very common.
Thanks for the video and your views RT, both appreciated. I like the look of the watch, good pick up.
Nice review. Interesting twist ending.
A nice brand for sure. LOL to "wimpy" buckle. A great find in 40mm.
Its one of my pet peeves when the hardware doesn't seem to match the rest of the strap.
Yeah, I get it.
Sounds right about the time they were dicsontinuing them. Great find! Hopefully be a while before you have to retire it. Cheers!
The logo would be nice in red
That would be a nice touch, or at least the cross on the shield.
didnt know that engineer bracelet, its an absolute masterpiece.I love it,i never liked those chainy metallic watch bands, ever, but that one is trully beautyfull.I dont know how it can change so much.
amazing.Thank you so much for share.
Glad you enjoyed it
for people who prefer a lower price for the engineer bracelet:
its also in two tones,polished,brushed,etc,etc.

Check out the Victorinox Alliance. Much more subtle and less busy than the officer. And yes, you must carry a matching victorinox suisse knife
Looks good. I'll have to look into it in more detail later. Looks fairly clean and 40mm.
I love that naming....officer's watch
I am using few combos:
- Leatherman Rev, Komandirskie K-34, Ka-Bar Gila Folder
-Victorinox Recruit, Zeppelin GMT
- Leatherman Rev, my new Parnis Diver
- mix of them ;)
Victorinox field watch is looking simply, but not awesome :( not for me :(
100m WR is in plus :)
This watch have got many good points, but the dial is... I don't know how to tell it... It's not my favourite dial :)
Maybe indexes are bad looking on mat black dial. Something is wrong for me :)
But... review is great ;)
I hope next one will be soon
I hope they release a titanium case version.
How would you rate the quality and reliability of this quite common movement?
Which one would you choose? With this Victorinox or with the Hamilton Khaki King II? I am undecided and would like to know your opinion. Thank you very much in advance
Well I sold this watch, but still have the Khaki King. So that's probably my answer. These might be pretty hard to find these days, but they do have a great unusual look. Although for me I love the day date at the top of the khaki king, and the 80hr power reserve comes in handy.
@@RelativeTime Thank you so much for your opinion, time and quick response. Regards from Spain
It was tight, but it worked.
www.relative-time.com/victorinox-officers-watch-review/
Anything more, you might have to get some curved / bent spring bars.
That's some good quality rubber strap.
I love this channel because the videos are 8 - 15 minutes and it's nice not to have to commit to 20 minutes or more.
Thanks! I usually shoot for around 10 (give or take). But just depends on the watch.
I like my Victorinox Swiss Army Ambassador, and the fact that it has also been discontinued makes me feel like I belong to some sort of exclusive group as opposed to the Seiko followers.
I haven't seen that one before. It's nice, reminds me of a Hamilton Khaki king. Wonder why they discontinued it.
Victorinox Ambassador club member checking in. Got one from my parents for college grad in 2006. A fantastic dressed up field watch.
The knife tradition sharp the imagination towards the classic swiss industry saying something innovative there.
Dear Shawn,
I came across your channel cause it was different, your selection, presentation and your immense open mind for watches allowed to shed light on some watches I havent encountered.
I have a complaint. I feel like I am burning a hole in my wallet by watching your videos. It feels so genuine and the watches you being are such refreshing.
Keep them coming and Oh dont worry about the hole just need to get s bigger wallet that matches the bank account ;)
Take care, stay safe and best wishes.
It's Shane actually. 😀 But that's ok, I've been called Shawn many times as well. My Mom was a big fan of the old Cowboy movie. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shane_(film)
Anyway, thanks I do appreciate it. These take a lot of time, so I'm glad they are enjoyed.
@@RelativeTime Applogies for that. Shane it is.
Take care dude.
I have the bracelet version with butterfly clasp which i hate so better to use it with a brown leather strap, thanks for the video
Bracelts can be tricky. My wrist can swell a bit during the summer so I either have to wear them a bit loose, otherwise they get uncomfortably tight.
*Does it have a screw-down-crown?*
No screw down crown.
Okay, I am going to need to know the name of the strap on that Seiko SNK805 at 0:22 seconds in. That looks like a perfect fit, to that dial.
Sorry, I should have included that in the description. It's in their now at the bottom of the straps.
amzn.to/2M39dED
Every time I show the snk805 with that strap, at least 2 or 3 people ask about it.
Thank you so much for taking the time to post it so everyone can check it out if they fancy it like me. Much appreciated!
Nice review. Before it ended I already thought about ordering myself one of these and then you stated that they don't make them anymore........the sad corner of the room patiently awaits my company lol
lol... maybe I should of led with that.
Thanks for the suggestion. Hadn't heard of Bernhardt or the Binnacle before, it's definitely going on my list.👍
A few minutes in the video, I say: brown leather strap! And you can find it with a blue dial too! With lumed indices this would be a SNZG-killer...
Thank you! I like your reviews. Well detailed. Excellent! :)
The Date window held me back from buying this watch. What is the point of showing 3 dates?
I don't think anyone really likes the open date window. People either hate it, or they just don't care about it. Someone commented that a version exists that looks identical, but with a normal date window. Not sure what the model is. But I'm betting it's also discontinued.
Try the victorianox Infantry watch or the original . Both are quartz watches but are very durable.
I still haven’t got around to another victorinox. I think my next one will be an I.n.o.x.
I just stumbled across this review. Safe to say I’m subscribing to your channel. Excellent review!
Thanks. Welcome to the channel!
I had a pretty rough Monday but I got home and kissed my beautiful wife and then saw you had a new video up. A nice treat. Now it's a better day. lol
But I digress; Great review.
I've also seen someone put them in a round mug, then add boiling water too.
Sounds like an almost perfect watch. I'm going to keep looking.
Me too
Really nice watch! Thanks for the review.
Great watch! But why do I HATE watches that show the date that way?
I'd say the open date window is a love / hate kind of thing. Except I don't think anyone actually loves it. It's more of a Hate / tolerate kind of thing.
Nice watch and a great price for that ETA movement.
I just picked up a timex fairfield (41mm) but i don't like the blue band it came with (white face) what do you like for this watch?
Strap wise?
@@RelativeTime Yes sir, strap, it has a rough (canvas type) strap that irritates my skin...thank you (love your videos ) !!!!
@@MANTAMANBREAK check out Barton or Ritche. They have some good quick release leather. Or some really good silicone straps.
If you want something nicer check out Armilla. I've got a few of their leather ones and I really like them. Just take a bit to get too you.
Thanks bro, victorinox watches,it looks different to me,thinking about this brand a while now to add to my collection.great video btw👌👍
Victorinox's INOX is fairly popular for a quartz watch. They usually go for $250, but are supposed to be very rugged and tough. Might look into one some day. But when I was reviewing this I noticed they are releasing a mechanical model. But at quite a steep price jump. Cheers!
You should review a Leatherman watch ;)
Seen them, but I'm more interested in the tread bracelet it comes on. Actually emailed them a while ago seeing if they would be willing to send me one to check out, but never heard from them.
It seems a little pricey for what it is, but still might have to get one to check out sometime.
I've had many Quartz Awesome
Had an automatic 2836. Great
Field watches historically were smaller 36mm.
What is it's rate of àccuracy?
Nice job. I have carried a victorinox swiss champ pocket knife for the better part of 4 decades. Love they're cutlery but never bonded with they're watches. Mostly due to the price and poor lume
The MSRP is fairly high, I'm not sure what that translates to for market value. So do they all seem to have poor lume?
What is the replacement for Victorinox ?
The closest they have is this one.
www.swissarmy.com/us/en/Products/Watches/Mens-Watches/AirBoss-Mechanical/p/241507
I'm not sure if its a replacement though.
Wait till you see the new Boldr Venture.
Boldr makes some great watches. But at first glance, it looks a little too much like the Bertucchi Titanium models.
www.bertucciwatches.com/Bertucci/A2TOC.html
But Boldr has Sapphire, and I really like the Syringe Hands.
On another note, bertucchi has been around for a long time now, but they could take some pointers from Boldr on making a slick easy to navigate website.
Relative Time yes they do look similar but with a Quartz crystal and a Swiss Quartz movement and I paid only $99 US for the Venture.
That's a really good price for what you are getting. If recently picked up a bertucchi to review, but I'm wishing I had seen this first now.
Are you going to do a video on the Victorinox fieldforce? (Not the chrono version) Which seems to be a superior version of this watch given the improvements you mentions.
Honestly this is the first I've heard of them. So maybe, although my plate is already pretty full. But I'll look into them
@@RelativeTime Yeah, haven't seen much about it so would be interested in your take on it. I quite like the look of the blue dial with a stainless steel
bracelet or leather strap.
A nice visual improvement compared to the officer is that the Victorinox logo is in red. Also the dial isn't crowded with text like some of the Seiko fieldwatches.
Been thinking about picking one up for Christmas.
Owning a Leatherman is just wrong... Gerber made the best multi-tool. The pliers flick out like a switch blade.
Discontinued?
Well... dammit.
Great review, though.
Unfortunately. I still haven't checked out another victorinox, but someday I might.
I can’t find this watch at the 200 dollar price, only found one for 825 dollars on amazon. Wtf is going on?
It's been discontinued for a while now. people that want them don't want to give them up.
Relative Time oh no!! I love it
Leatherman > Victorinox any day of the week. . . . . .
Great review, pick up your cadence. Had to watch at 1.5 speed
nice looking watch...
If you still have this and want to sell let me know
Sorry, don't have it anymore.
I see relative Time, I press like
Thanks!
I have a bracelet version. It is a great watch. I like it a lot :)
How long ago did you get it?
Relative Time Almost a year ago.
Do they come in 43mm
The entire line is discontinued. Victorinox still makes watches, mostly quartz but some mechanical. Most of those are 42, but some are 43.

Pocket watch? You mean pocket knife?
where can I buy this?
Ebay maybe. They seem to be vanishing.
@@RelativeTime hey man searched everywhere :/ if you come across could you please post me the link. I want one of these so badly man.
@@ayinqarah will do
I want with day date 40 mm is perfect, i want also to be hand wind.
Good stuff.
I have a VIctorinox Quartz that is durable accurate and a real beast. It was a gift from www.ABTW.com , the straps, rubber, are a PIA , they just never seem to "break in". Oh, and it is in RED also - Dial and Straps. Good Luck!
Is that an I.N.O.X.? I've heard they are pretty cool.
@@RelativeTime Yes, an i was a cool gift.
The rubber strap has got to go.
Cannot dig the dial. Way to cluttered and busy as u said.
You are not alone. I think if they removed the 24 hour subdial, and got rid of the open date window. It would look a bit cleaner.
Seiko 37 mm great choice for a woman’s like me 😁
That would be a better choice. My wife liked the look of the Seiko snk803
Exactly!
Check out Vaer.
Already have. Twice in fact. Great company.
@@RelativeTime I wrote them recently about a smaller watch. They're coming out with a 36mm watch soon.
You should check out Weiss as well for nice mechanical manual wind field watches.
@@RelativeTime also: Timex Waterbury and Jack Mason for other field watches.
Jack Mason isn’t too far from me. I’ve been meaning to check out their showroom.
Never understood seeing 3 dates in a window, looks ridiculous!
Relative Time I agree, great review by the way...keep em coming!
Agreed!
Timex Scout.
It's a good price for an ETA 2824 movement, I just don't like the design, it's too cluttered for my taste.
