I really looked up to Bobby when I was a kid. I was 17 when he died. My very best of all of his songs was his version of “If I were a carpenter.” Was sad when he died. Thanks for posting.

With the kind of serious heart condition he had, he was not going to be able to live much past 40. I had an uncle that had the same thing and he died at 42.

Darrin’s brief life had more drama than a soap opera. I’m curious as to why his mother didn’t reveal his father’s identity. I’ve heard speculation that his father was a “made” man who didn’t know Darrin was his son and revealing his father’s identity may have hurt Darrin’s career or even put his life in danger. But that bombshell had to have hit him hard. My favorite song of his was his cover of Mack the knife. I even prefer Darrin’s version over Ella Fitzgerald’s and I loved Ella. Darrin lived more fully than many people who lived twice as long. I hope he’s at peace.

I just read an excerpt from Darin's son,from his book, that said his dad was experiencing dementia before his death, Maybe this is why he didn't take his antibiotics before his dental appointment....he just didn't remember.

I was always his fan, but I have to say when Splish Splash came out when I was a teenybopper, I just loved it. It was so unusual at the time and I can remember it like yesterday. Used to love hearing it on Dick Clark.

Sad part of this is one of the causes of rheumatic fever is easily treatable with those same antibiotics Mr. Darin failed to take before his last dental visit--strep throat. Was wondering did anyone get rheumatic fever anymore to find out it really isn't that common in the developed world. Sounds as if Bobby Darin had a hard life and I hope he's at peace.
Let's hope not ... at least for a good long while! Mac the Knife is prob my favorite! It came out right before I started Kindergarten! We always had the radio going, lots of great songs from that era!

Great video! I watched your first release of this vid and thought maybe you added some new facts. I should’ve known it was over some silly broken rule. But I was happy to watch again. I always loved Bobby Darin. I was born several years after he passed but at the age of 4, I proclaimed to my mom that I was going to marry Bobby Darin or Paul McCartney. Her response was, “You’re going to marry Bobby Darin? Good luck with that....!” I truly thought she was rooting for me. 😆 It was a few years later that I found out the truth and I was crest fallen. BTW, I didn’t marry Paul either, but I married a sweet man just the same as soon as we graduated HS and we’ve been together ever since. 😊 Keep up the great work!

That poor man. A preventable death, although not widely understood at the time. Most people don’t realize that if you’ve had selected medical procedures (hip replacement, knee replacement, etc.) you must take an antibiotic before any dental procedure for the rest of your life.
I wonder if the dentist knew of the necessity to take antibiotics. I have a spinal cord stimulant which my dentist knows about and I have to take them before any dental visit other than X-rays.

I was brought up listening to Bobby Darin’s records and I have always felt Darin was an underrated performer. The man had talent to spare!
