  • Hey everyone! We talked about this in the livestream on Friday. I was very intrigued due to my recent love of the movie that I had never seen as a kid. I watched one episode and I am already on board. It has all the music and greatness of the original. Christopher Lambert may have spoiled me in the first episode but we shall see how it progresses! Let me know what you guys think. LIKE and SUBSCRIBE if you are ENTERTAINED!!!

Just consider the tv series an alternate take on the first movie. Highlander is kind of hard to franchise without undoing the ending of the film.
This series was on the USA Network which was still commercial television, but they pushed the envelope with what they could or couldn't show (IIRC, it was a late-night time slot).

I think it has less to do with USA pushing the network and more to to with it being produced in/for multiple countries. (Each season was half filmed in Toronto and half in France.) I'm not sure what Jay's video source is, but my guess is either DVD or its what was shown in France or Germany. Also while it might be somewhat risque by modern "basic cable" standards, this was on at the same time NYPD Blue had its run on ABC and that could practically be a (rather tame) HBO or Showtime series today.

So initially Lambert was going to make multiple appearances in the series, but it got screwed up. One of the major investors thought he asked for too much money and got him written out of the script, then other investors threatened to back out without him. Understandably Lambert was upset about essentially being fired and to get him back he insisted on 10 times the money, which unfortunately meant he only appeared once.

Now I feel old. I watched this when it was new, but never really got past Season 3 ( just saw some episodes). I shipped Duncan and Tessa so much, I loved the episodes in Paris best, with all the european actors. I loved Darius and Fitz. Joe and Methos are also good but well.. I have all seasons at home, I only need to watch the rest.

Looks like this was the only episode you've watched. I'f I'm wrong, stop reading now. I'm a big fan of the series although I don't like the final, sixth season too much. They may have said 50 years in this episode but it was agreed throughout the series (and fan fiction) that Connor was 80 years older than his cousin. Richie Ryan was a street kid of about 17 to 19, and a thief. Connor said at the end that Richie would need watching because they both sensed he was gonna be an immortal. Duncan and Tessa took him in. Tessa lasted about half a dozen episodes into season 2 when her and Richie were shot to death in a mugging. He woke up immortal. Duncan had him sell the art gallery and Duncan opened a dojo; perfect cover of sword practice/fights. The production had a sword master on hand who, I think, was in one or two episodes. Roger Daltrey (7 episodes) and Roland Gift (5 episodes) of Fine Young Cannibals are two of the many recognizable names appearing on this show but my favorite is Nicholas Lea who was Alex Krycek on the X-Files. He played two different roles, one episode a piece. His character Cory Raines left a huge imprint on the whole show, sort of a Clyde to Duncan's on again/off again thief girlfriend Amanda's Bonnie.
