  • After the bow issues on the Ranger Z520R were corrected, the next step was to update all of the units (Garmin, Lowrance, Humminbird) and then configure them. The Ranger "R" boat contains the Ride system which runs on the NMEA 2000 network, so we verify that the units can be seen on the network. For the Lowrance units, we had to unstop the sonar and side/down imaging after the update. We also programmed the quick access buttons and set up a unique viewing for side imaging on the dual console setup. The goal was to make the electronics quick and easy to use for the customer.

Always good to come to the end of a project! Unfortunately there seems to always be a new project to take its place. Lol

One or five new projects with more on the horizon.

Gary I had to send in my Live 12 to Lowrance to get repaired and they couldn’t fix it so they sent me a HDS Pro 12. Now I have a Live 12 and a Pro 12. Where should I run that Pro 12 ? On my bow ? I have AT 1 at my bow and at the console I have a thru hull and a 2 in 1 AI transducer. Not sure where I’d benefit having the Pro 12. Thanks for any help 👍👍

I'd run it at the bow for the Active Target. You'll get slightly better response time with it. Unless you want to upgrade your 2-in-1 AI to the HD version. If so then put it on the console for better side and down imaging. (That was good of them to upgrade you to a Pro model).

@garrywoodruff960 Yes it was I was totally shocked they did that !!! I do plan on getting a 3 in 1 AI to replace that 2 in 1 but not sure if I want to spend the $ on the HD. Thank you so much for the help !!!

I would look at getting the HD version since it will hook to your new Pro unit directly (just NOT the fish reveal one). I will be doing some testing early next week to compare the HD and original 3-in-1. And you're welcome.

@@garrywoodruff960 Gary I’m going to order a new HD AI transducer and my Ranger already has a shoot thru hull transducer for 2d (but it is 9 years old) should I just order a 2in1 HD AI or just go ahead and get the 3in1 ? Mine will be mounted on the pad as that’s where my current 2in1 AI is now. I don’t run a jack plate. Thanks Glenn 👍
Also I found a company in Canada that makes a flush mount for the HD AI transducer so I ordered one.

Hi Glenn, you should be able to use the in-hull transducer (you'll need the 7-to-9 pin adapter cable). That one goes on the Blue connector in the back of the unit. Plug the 2-in-1 HD in the Black plug. Then source the Sonar from "This unit CH1" and Side/down from "2-in-1 HD".
That way you will have sonar when you are running on pad. Otherwise using the sonar from a 3-in-1, it will drop out around 50 or depending on how much cavitation you get on the step where the transducer is mounted.
