I've had a lingering foot infection that has kept me from getting out and filming as much as I'd like, so I apologize for the lack of videos and appreciate the patience. Got another one coming soon. Cheers!
The photography and video are beautiful, but I love how that’s just kind of along for the ride with the main event of Alicia’s first big backpacking adventure with you. So nice to see real stories, not just film and gear topics. Oh, and whoa! The colors in the landscape photo at 11:01! I can’t remember the the artist’s name, but that so reminds me a painter’s style. Incredible! (Speaking of topics, I’m excited for the next tavern and burger joint review series). Cheers!
Thanks, Bob! Glad I was able to capture Alicia's first trip. This will be a special video to look back on for us. I was really happy with the results of those sunrise photos. Going back and forth on whether I like the Portra 800 or Velvia shots more. Getting my liver ready for the next bar scene video, stay tuned! Cheers!
yes! i always get excited when i see you've posted a new video. i know you've mentioned in the past how much of a pain making these videos can be, but i really think your backpacking/photography content is some of the best out there. thank you for taking us along on these amazing adventures, Brae!
Gorgeous video as always :) Also, you went to The Brick! I don't know if you're familiar, but the show Northern exposure was filmed there and if you haven't seen it I definitely recommend it!
Dropping that lens cap was the universe telling you they're absolutely worthless and unnecessary! Now you'll never have a blank shot! Excellent video as always.
I absolutely understand your pain about range finders and lens caps. I can’t even begin to tell you how many dam shots I have taken with the lens cap on. I have shot entire rolls. My fuji gw690ii and my Leica. So now I have hidden all of my range finder lens caps. I for some reason just can’t remember to take them off. So now they are hidden for good! Your images turned out absolutely epic! Great stuff! 😊
Good to see you again! Wonderful photographs. I’m glad you forced yourself to get up with the sun, nice photos with a whisp of clouds on the peaks. What I really appreciate about your videos is you take great photos not just film photos you pretend are great because they are on Portra. Nicely done.
Looked awesome Buddy. What scenery & images. Great, long awaited vlog! Plus, I shot star trails at Stonehenge, with the lens cap on.......! Luckily I noticed!
Dude, dropping that lens cap totally sounds like something I would do! Good to see you made it back alright! When I saw you start sliding, I thought something had happened where you might have gotten hurt. Totally understand the views though! In 1993, I was in CO for a couple weeks and went up to Pikes Peak and when we got to the top, the air was so clear you could see for miles in every direction. Nothing but you some other people and the mountain goats! ✌️
Ugh I love starting my day watching these videos dude. I also love how you include the little fuckup bits in the video - makes me feel less alone about when that same stuff happens to me haha.
Thanks! Post process for editing the photos? The portra shots didn't require much editing. Just some contrast and saturation adjustment. The velvia shots required a bit more work and the latitude from that stock isn't as good as color negative film. I bracketed the Velvia shots 2-3 times each and found that over exposing the sky by one stop was the sweet spot. Anything more than that and I wasn't able to pull back the highlights enough to retain texture in the clouds. Had to play with color temp, shadows, highlights, contrast, and saturation with those velvia shots. Out of the 10 shots on the roll, I was happy with about 3-4 of them.
20 Mile hike! Yeesh. How many miles is that after factoring you setting up the camera then having to run back and get it for the next sequence? Atleast 400 I would think
Digging the Velvia shots! Glad to see you again, what a great edit. Solid work ma man! editing was so clean I almost wished there was a pause in the middle just to digest what I just saw. But alas, I’m here at the end contemplating a rewatch.
Hi Brae, so cool to see a new video from you, it was dope as usual! (Now I hit the like button BEFORE watching because I know it'll be cool). The scenery was amazing and it was fun to see Alicia coming along. You took some killer shots! Ouch, the lens cap story... :P Hey so I bought the Bronica SQ-A in 2020 after seeing your video about it but recently I was really itching for 6x7 sooooo... bought the GS-1 too! So now I'm in the Bronica Gang and the 6x7 Gang :)
Good to be back. A lingering infection on my foot has hindered my backpacking plans this summer. Very annoying. My pack is the Osprey Atmos AG 65. Cheers.
Love the content as always! Photos are stunning. Question though, when you setup the video camera and then go back to pick it up, what’s your process for packing it away? I would imagine you’d want it handy, so completely collapsing the tripod and then packing that away along with the camera seems like a lot of work. Do you have a quicker process for that?
I have a pad on the tripod called a LegPad made by a company called LensCoat. This makes it pretty comfortable to rest the tripod on my shoulders while I walk!
This is great. You should have a million subscribers with this content. Like the Velvia shots too. It got me into film in the early 90s. The colors you can get... but not a lot of forgiveness. If you haven't, try it out sometime with a graduated nd on an medium format SLR (impossible to do well on a rangefinder IMO).
Thank you very much! Yeah I have a grad ND system, but like you said, it's difficult to setup on a rangefinder. I read an article about how you can get pretty accurate results via a marking system on the filter kit ( www.andylatham.co.uk/section52452_7493.html ). I haven't tried it yet though. Was wishing I had an SLR and my ND when I was shooting those morning shots, oh well...
@@BraeHunziker One of the many reasons I kick myself for selling my RZ kit about 15 years ago. Had 4 backs includong 6x6 and polaroid and a bunch of lenses. Kids happened. But now at least I have a 7 and will someday get another RZ. RZ still my favorite camera of all time.
I do a rec 709 conversion from slog 3 and then use a free preset called "Sedona" set at about 40% intensity. From there just some color temp, contrast, saturation, shadow, and highlight adjustments if needed!
I think faster speed film, not that good for long exposures! Nat Geo used slower film for really long expsoures! Like your pix! After Pentax 67, mamiya must feel too light and flimsy. I don't disagree! Fat Albert too heavy! All best, Bravo! You look beautiful together!.
Been a professional photographer for over 25 years and have to say. I wish you would dump that gear and move over to a Fuji GFX 100S medium format digital along with their GF 23 f4, GF 45-100 f4 and GF 100-200 f5.6. You would wonder why you waited. It would reinvent your creative juices along with performance you'd only dreamed of. I named this combo as it would allow you to choose film emulations which I know you have a thing for. If I was rich I'd send you that combo. If RUclips ever gets you to a high level and you could afford it something to think about. Sure would greatly simplify and elevate your efforts.
I have considered it. Not as a total substitute for film, but for consistent landscape work. I will likely give the system a try at some point. Both medium format film and the fuji gfx system are viable options for landscape photography in my opinion!
THE KING HAS RETURNED 🔥
I felt like I had been waiting forever for this video lol
I've had a lingering foot infection that has kept me from getting out and filming as much as I'd like, so I apologize for the lack of videos and appreciate the patience. Got another one coming soon. Cheers!
10:33 absolutely sent me. My god. The sound of the lens cap bouncing down the rocks 😂
Haunting
Gorgeous images - the velvia worked well!
Thanks Sam!
Loved the views and great photos! Sayonara to all the original lens caps that have survived decades without getting lost..until they meet us. 🫡
hahah exactly 🤣
This is awesome. 11:08 is pure gold.
Thank you!

Thank you! It's a hard process but very rewarding and fulfilling. These are some of my favorite videos to make :)
Another really enjoyable video ... loved the Velvia colours ... excellent channel
Thank you!
Hi Brae, it’s nice to see Alicia with you. Can you make a video about how you prepare and what you bring to photo hiking adventures like this?
Yeah I am planning on making a video about my backpacking setup. Hoping to get it out by the end of the season 😅
Gorgeous video as always :)
Also, you went to The Brick! I don't know if you're familiar, but the show Northern exposure was filmed there and if you haven't seen it I definitely recommend it!
I did hear that! Haven't seen the show, but I'll check it out! Cheers.
Man, the light, the colors, the vibes.....are the absolute best 🤙
Thank you :)
Landscape photos with people add so much perspective and make for a great story
Agreed!
watching in 1440p was beautiful
Love to hear! Thanks for watching!
Dropping that lens cap was the universe telling you they're absolutely worthless and unnecessary! Now you'll never have a blank shot! Excellent video as always.
Haha agreed!
Absolute stunning images and video. Thank you so much for taking us out to this beautiful nature!
Thanks for taking the time to watch!

Thanks for the kind words!

Haha oh no!! I saw that Timelapse on Insta. Looked so rad!
@@BraeHunziker Thanks dude. Yeah the Sony digital stuff came out great! I've still to get the film finished & developed yet though!
Yup.... had to rewind the video twice to make sure I heard it right - ' Porta Potty 400 ' - at 5:16 of the video.
haha best stock out there
I always wait for a new video with more enthusiasm than for a new Star Wars! Finally new episode is here thank you man! Let's enjoy:)
That's quite a compliment haha. Thank you!
Alicia: "I'm getting there" 😅
lolol 😂
Beautiful stuff as always man. Great to see you both out enjoying the trail. Those early morning shots were 👌(Rip that lens cap though)
Thanks dude ❤️
Great video, fantastic views!
At 14:50, isn't that the restaurant from "Northern Exposure"?
Yep!
Bloody amazing work pal, thanks so much for your work. Pure inspiration.
Thank you as always sir 👊🏼

7:53 beef pasta marinara is where it's at
You know what's up
I see a Brae video notification and I must click immediately!
❤️
Dude, that was awesome. Just what I needed in the depths of a Southern Hemisphere winter, craving me some mountains here... 👏👏
Haha happy to help :)
Yess, new backpacking trip! Man, the shots at 11:00 are fantastic! What is your post-proces like?

Finally a new video, thank you for it Brae! Awesome backpacking trip and beautiful photos as always 👏
Thank you!
this was so nice, i love the flash photos!! 11:11 might be your best ever.
Thanks dude! That morning light was beautiful.
Let’s go dude love the vids, you got me into medium format! Keep them going dude
Love it! Cheers!
Been waiting for this man!
Good to be back!
Crushed it per usual. Amazing spot!
Thank you!
Well dang my dude, maybe I should check some flights over to ya soon? 😉 amazing video as always!
Well obviously you should!

LOL, yeah somewhere around 420 miles I'd imagine
Whoaaa thought you sold the Mamiya 7!
I had one 2 years ago that I sold. Just got back into the system!
Hi! I noticed you used a wipe of some sort to clean off the camera. Could you tell me what kind of wipe you used?
Wow
❤️
Great vid, 🍻
Thank you!
Beautiful video Brae👌
thank you!

Heck yeah!! Both fantastic cameras! Happy shooting.
Thanks for the support :)
The winder squeak at 12:49 made me feel better about loading my Mamiya, thought it was just mine 😂
I think/hope that's a relatively normal phenomenon lol
Velvia definitely paid off those shots were fire, wicked video, also bro eating burgers like that and still looking like a rig on the trails. HOW?
Haha thank you! Burning 5,000 calories on the trail definitely helps
Glad to see another backpacking vid really been missin them recently. What backpack are you using in this video btw?
Good to be back. A lingering infection on my foot has hindered my backpacking plans this summer. Very annoying. My pack is the Osprey Atmos AG 65. Cheers.

Amazing content Brae! When you get your film developed. What resolution do you opt for?

Thank you! Do need to get a new print shop up soon.

I only want to travel
I didn't make up the restrictions. #backpacking 😊😊😊
Hahah I guess Velvia wasn't such a bad idea after all!
It worked out! haha
You've made the cascades a must visit for me over the past couple months of following. Its fuckin gorgeous up there
Can't beat it!! Highly recommend!
amazing colour grading! do you use any presets?

“Porta Potty 400” bruh I’m freaking dead 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
lolol
Just use uv filters, forget the hassle of lens caps
This is the way
Alicia....would you just pull a Brian Birks and Marry the Girl????
But use the 67II if you choice to share the festivities....
hahaha 👀
I agree.
🔥🔥🔥
Cheers!
fuckin rangefinder, I cannot agree more. 😂
Lens caps are overarted
