I just turn it over when it cools off to dump the ashes out. Once you get to use it, and get used to it, it works really well. It is very efficient and burns really clean. I would feel comfortable using this in the house as long as you could vent it through a window, or the vent on the stove. Hope this helps,
J
wok is a utility pan. you can boil, fry. pan fry. basiclaly anytrhing you need to do. the shape makes it easy to shake and stir the contents. I just got a 14 inch cast iron version made my lodge. it is great.
That's pretty much how you use a wok. dang-it now I'm hungry!
Actually, that was not the intended use of a Wok, but WTH, it worked just fine.
The J Null Cooking Show. Nice!
Lol yeah your fine asians use theirs the ssame way..so no worries your not causing an international conflict :))
Fantastic video. Thank You As for the pot a pot is a pot you use it for what you can) :)
Great work on video mate merry Christmas
It will not fit in a bucket, but I bet it will fit in a rubbermaid tub easily. Honestly I just leave mine out...lol. Hope this helps, thanks for watching.
J
I plan coming up there in the spring when I get some personal time at work and I am coming hungry. So don't break the stove in till I get there.
Dare I say, I feel a slight bit of regret that I didn't keep this thing? JK, I knew you would use the hell out of it. Great job brother!
Man that is a Cool stove You are a natural at cookin that chicken in the Wok !!! Now I'm starving for chicken strips
love that stove. i have not seen them in Australia. but it has to be a Must have item.
Good demo bro.
keep safe.
Do a video cooking the goat...lol Just kidding unless you BBQ it..lol How you doing bro..!
man i got to get one of these! its like a rocket stove on steroids!
lol...good I was hoping I wouldnt screw it up...lol.
J
You know at the end, when the coals are still red, you could wrap some taters in foil and bake them. Then, put a grill of some kind over the top of the opening grill yourself some burgers and hot dogs. Maybe some ears of corn. Oh my. Getting hungry! (:
I dont think it is illegal to cook southern fried chicken in a WOK, but you may not want to let any Chinese cooks know what you've done. Especially if they know Judo!
Sorry to break it to you bud, but Judo is Japanese. Try Kung Foo...
Buuuuut, I guess there may be a few Chinese individuals that know Judo....Lol.
I just ordered mine John because of your good review....Looks like a great addition to my Silver fire rocket stove that I also just ordered because of your review....Thanks John and looking forward to using all three....Oh I got the silver fire scout also...Take care my brother and God Bless....
Hey J, for storage, I know they sell the carrying bag for it, but, will it fit in a 5 or 6 gallon bucket with a gamma lid on top?
Great! Now I'm undecided between Survivor & Hunter models. Upgraded Survivor due this month.
Stir Fry: Great way to make a little meat go a long ways & feed a crowd. Google Stir Fry Cooking or Stir Fry recipes for lots of info. I have a couple carbon steel woks & have been doing stir fry for a long time. Thin strips of meat, assorted veggies, + ingredients for sauce. 1 chicken breast can feed several if stir fried with veggies + some rice on the side.
There's more to a wok than just frying. !
I like that design! and woks are great for small wood cooking .... super efficient. Thanks for posting this
Nice stove John, whats the discount on the stove if you use that discount code? Just trying to do the math. Thanks John... PS that thing will ship soon we talked about..sorry been busy bro.
Nice video man. I would have never considered using a wok to deep fry. Screw the 3 haters of the video, they wanted you to cook up chicken in 90 seconds in the wok (which you can without the oil).
Darn, Son, iffin ya didn't get me hankerin for some fried yard bird. The stove is a keeper, too! Thanks for the review.
Very Impressive little unit there, Thanks for warning us with the Flame ups. I'll make sure to wear a depends when I cook on it so I don't soil my shorts.
LOL...I was a little nervous.
J
Great now I am hungry!! lol
Dont know for sure, but it was at least 45 minutes until the heat stopped coming. I probably would have put more fuel in at about 35 mins or so. Hope this helps Autumn, Thanks,
J
I bought a picnic table top charcoal grill brand new at a garage sale for $10 and a $8 bag of matchlight : )
Wow. Watching your video from 8 years ago, it is still relevant! Thank you. That chicken looked amazing. We bought our Silverfire Hunter a couple of years ago, but haven’t given it a test drive. The time is now! Question, as we bought an extender to go up our chimney to use in the interior of our house, does it throw out much heat? We are hoping it might throw out enough heat to warm our living room. Our fireplace doesn’t warm anything. Stay safe.
made me hungry I'm gonna fry up some chicken strips and okra for supper
good job..love the look of the new stove(and how it makes good use of bits and pieces of fuel) will have to have hubby look into getting one
This is the unit I am most interested in...how long does it burn before you need to add more fuel?
Holy crap!! Your buddy sent you a very nice wok!!!!
With the difference of the two models, which do you prefer now? Also what is the main difference between the two models? Thanks Jon for reviewing these great stoves and showing us how you work with them.
What a great item to have! I'd love to have one but don't have a spare $150 to throw at one. Would be great if it was a contest. :) I'll keep a lookout for that one! Great video and impressive too!
not knowing what your doing is half the fun of testing it out many times thanks for sharing.
Maybe you should put that Goat in the Wok! LMAO. Would that stove help to make some heat in a small area?
I was going to get one to cook on and help heat a room 10 by 10. Thanks for the vid and please answer... Thanks
hi - I was trying to get hold of one of these in the UK but the shipping is prohibitively expensive :-(
from what I understand from the Silverfire people there are no patents on this stove so it would be great if you could maybe supply a run-down on its features so I can replicate it here in the UK?
I'd obviously then owe you a favour :-) :-)
Hey jnull0, I was wondering how that solar light system by,( what was it, EEC? ) was holding up, specifically how the 6v batteries were holding up.
i would have used a part of a Fire Patty to start it..lol.. grate vid brother!!!!!!!
LOL...the chicken was fantastic bro. See what you will be having when you come for a visit..lol..(hint hint)
J
I ordered this unit online. But I received such terrible customer service from Todd. It’s amazing he’s still in business considering the way he treats his paying customers.
After it's done flaming just throw a grill on there and do some BBQ'ing :)
hi i,m just will be starting of homesteading in Australia have only 1 acre.
LOL,
Two things that don't go together, Poop in your drawers! Great vid, Made me laugh and good info on the new stove!
Ok if you haven't figured it out by now it's for stir fry p.s keep up the awesome work more videos would be awesome I really enjoy your video thanks again
I love this thing man, it is nice not to have to babysit the fire while you are cooking. Thanks bro.
J
I love the Silver Fire Hunter stove. May I ask how much it costs. I would like to have it in my house or send it back home.
I am going to try to make one that I can use with the hunter stove I think. Thanks Autumn.
J
And that's a good wok like they use in a chinese restaurant,,but ya need to season ut like an iron skillet
Make sure to look into how to clean your wok properly. When done right like with an iron skillet you get more flavor out of your food. Happy eating!
Gee I need that wok and stove. I have given up looking for a decent wok here and the forced air flame, forget it. It costs a fortune. This looks like it would get really hot for wok frying verges.
I think I am going to be having one for my subsciber contest here in the near future, so stay tuned..lol. Thanks,
J
For seasoning a carbon steel wok heat bottom all over until it turns bluish inside then you have a nonstick surface. Most people miss this step and get discouraged.
A wok is great it can be a frying pan, a deep fryer a soup pot they're very versatile. I've spent a lot of time in South East Asian i love them.
I am very impressed with this stove bro, it works great. Thanks for watching,
J
indeed, that is a great idea. Thanks chocobo, hope all is well with ya,j
J
Thanks Shortie, it is an oldie but a goodie shirt...kinda like us...lol.
J
Hey just visited the web site for them they make OVENS TOO!
Just call it "Hubcap Chicken" and that way there is no wrong use for the Wok! Lolol!! :oP
Anytime man,,besides you post tips that help me out so i figure i should return the favor
lol...I will be doing that demonstration very soon..lol. Thanks bro.
J
you mentioned venting it thru the stove. do you think the flames may damage the vent or plastic on the range hood??
"Okay...I pooped alot... LMAO Now I want chicken!
this looks like a very useful thing to have. Good job J.
thats is super efficient... very impressive little stove
wok.....whiteboy outside kooking'!
OMG...Just looking at that bubbling oil gives me a heart attack
That's the first time I've seen someone use a wok for deep frying, very creative.
I am totally amazed with that stove. Fried chicken looked pretty yummy as well.
I find it kind of funny. You've got oodles of vids on youtube describing how to do things and yet didn't look on youtube to learn how to use a wok. LOL.
Good video by the way on the SilverFire.
Not everyone knows every thing I thought everyone knew what a wok was for and how to use it as its a multi purpose cooking tool that can be used as a sauce pan and a frying pan . . good video
Nice job on the chicken.... Love the videos .... Keep up the good work :)
man that's an efficient stove
I would like to have one of them bad boys..
Your wok and your lil rocket stove fit good!
Like socks on a rooster!! 😉👍
nothing wrong with using a wok for frying chicken it is nice and deep
well you told me to test it out..lol. Thanks again bro,
J
What goat meat taste like in a stir fry ? lol
. . sounds like your goat needs a friend
Can you tell me how can I order this wok. Thanks for the video.
Gosh a wok! Good for you J. You are learning more and more Dude xo
This would be an ideal solution for a small woodstove in a cabin. Just install it on a concrete board & vent it outside.
Did an awesome job! lol @ telling the goat to do some push ups :D
hahahaha we fry things in wok...... just not chicken
it sounds like youtube and trolls go together like things that go together
Okay, thank you. :-)
very cool. would love to have one of those!
it really is a pleasure to use, and cook on. thanks,
J
You can use a wok for deep frying. That is if you want to!
It is an awesome stove Norm, I love it. Thanks brother,
J
Awesome,great video and great cooker.Thanks.Godbless.
For someone who doesn't know what he is doing....did.
LOL...it was very tasty. Thanks Michael,
J
Thank you for sharing your experience
You cook anything and everything in a wok!!
that's a beautiful stove
I love it, it cooks great, and is very efficient.
J
Now I'm gonna have to fry some chicken today.
Jnull0, now that you've owned it for over 1.5 years, how has it held up? Have you experienced anything to praise it less than originally you did?
It is still working just as it did when I made this video. I am very happy with it, and it is holding up great. I still use it a lot...............................J
Open front it should flame up 👍
